This time I just wanted to demo and explore the low ends of the Behringer Edge. Owning 2 DFAMs I am actually finding that it sounds quite different in this matter.
A lot harsher and clickier. I can not seem to find that soft oomph kick and sub bassy sound that I most often easily find on the DFAMs. Definitely not a clone after all which is good. It still sounds interesting in my opinion.
Definitely needs a compressor / limiter as well to keep it in control (sorry for the distortion) 😅

Every demo I see of this machine convinces me more that it’s the next thing I buy.

Excellent demo from someone that certainly knows what he's doing and what most people want to find out before buying one. In my ears, it's way more suitable than dfam when working on strictly techno territory.

Great demo of this. Like the subtler sound of it. and the punchiness of the kicks. and the distorted ones. prob gonna buy one!

Sounds great. I have a DFAM, and... yeah the midi thing ~ lol. Anyway I wanted the EDGE to do what I like my Volca Kick to do, which is to fill in some rich sub bass fills (on a 16 step pattern, the kick on a 4 to floor 1/5/9/13, the sub bass would be on the 3/5/11/14). With that of course the EDGE gives all the other processionary fills which add to the groove. Hoping to take the plunge, but hoping again to fulfill that purpose with the Edge.

Received mine yesterday, love but haven't even scratched the surface of what it can do yet. For the money it's a hell of a lot of synth.

Always been intrigued by the DFAM, but it just doesn't fit my style of music. I'd absolutely use it for grimey baselines, but it would never function as my primary drum machine. The cost of the Edge makes things a whole lot more interesting, but I'm still not sure I'd use it enough to justify it, especially with a Subharmonicon clone on the way. Either way, great demonstration!

I use 2 DFAMs and a TR8S for drums. Also use a Subharmonicon for leads often. Check my instagram out for jams. Couldn’t live without my DFAMs for the low kicks and rolling bass lines. I have since sold the Edge and also owned the Crave. Behringer sound is good but just not up there with Moog imo. Thanks for listening bro

I like weird sounds so i got one to experiment with. I don't actually like techno - which it naturally tends towards - though so looking to move it away from there. longer sequences helps but I'm wondering if anyone else is trying something different?
@YukioBergholdt
@YukioBergholdt 4 месяца назад
I’d try sequencing it from a DAW or hardware sequencer to break out of the 8-step

@@YukioBergholdt yes I did - as I said "longer sequences helps" I got some dirty electro stuff from it ... what else are people doing thats different?

Hi yukio!🤙how are u sequensing the drum pattern. I keep on seeing videos about this machine and nobody talks about making a sequence. Can u show us how to or there is no sequence except how u turn knob's? Thank you
@YukioBergholdt
@YukioBergholdt Год назад
The sequencer is basically just pressing play on the Edge and it will run through 8 steps repeatedly. You can adjust pitch and velocity on each of the 8 steps and also patch them to modify available inputs. Since it is semi modular it will usually make a sound without patching. Pretty much learning by doing

if you want more than 8 steps then you can feed it pitch / velocity through the midi in. until midi 2.0 though, you wont get near the subtle nuances you get from the knobs, and what ive found so far is that it tends to live and die on tiny variations to hit the sweet spots - playing the sounds, you can get nice variation just moving a knob a mm in some cases. I also experimented with trying to recreate an onboard sequence with an off board sequencer and found it difficult to match up.

Cool! How accessible is something like this to a beginner with no production experience? Just to jam and play around
@YukioBergholdt
@YukioBergholdt Год назад
It's a really good starting point for getting into modular and subtractive synthesis. Maybe a bit steep learning curve to begin with but you can just randomly try and things will begin to make sense at some point

I would say no. It’s really cool, but very narrow to get nice sound out of it. A lot of parameters work together, And most of it is what you hear here. Cool stuff, but without patching or adding other synths, this is it. Look for a dreadbox Typhon or the behringer pro 600/800 (?). Way more fun

It´s a fine machine and does very well what it does. But I would not recommed it for a beginner because maybe you won´t be happy a long time just jamming with 8 steps of percussion sounds alone. I started with a simple digital groovebox, Korg Electribe EM, and looking back that was a good idea. Got drums, two synth voices, no need for a mixer, 16 step sequencer and a lot of demo songs I could analyze to learn how things work. Teached me the basics without getting too complicated. Very, very easy to get in and get results. And it´s digital, so everything can be saved - Edge´s seq is very easy and fun to use but a quite special thing. And you can´t save anything, it´s completly analog. Everyone has its own way to get into this stuff, for me the groovebox was great because I could make songs with that thing and so I was very motivated to go on. I doubt an Edge alone would have done that for me. BTW: thx for the vid, cool stuff!

I agree with the others. But I was replying from the thought that you were looking for a first drum machine. This could be the one. However if it's the first synth you're after I would go for the Arturia Microfreak. So dirt cheap, deep and well documented

@@drconflict629 I think it lacked the warm and soft sound of the DFAM (I've got 2 DFAMs). Envelope / Attack was too clicky. Also didn't like the hard edge on the knobs.
