I know your post is about a year old but a few weeks ago I bought the MS-1 as well. I never really wanted the Roland SH-101 back when it was released, never thought it was anything special. Now that Behringer has reduced the price on the MS-1 MK I in preparation for finally shipping sometime this year the MKII Version I decided to take another look at the Mk 1 while it is still available. Listening to a few side by side comparison videos of the MK1 and SH-101 I truly could not discern much of a difference. Especially if you add any effects and put it in the mix I challenge anyone to hear the difference. So instead of waiting for the MK II, which I know is going to be priced about $150.00 more, I grabbed the MK I for $199.00. It's really a no brainer, where can you get a Synth like this for that price???? As you've stated it's well built, very solid. The Keyboard is pretty decent and is full size. The knobs and sliders are also solid with a nice feel. It's got a solid metal base. MIDI In Out and THRU and all of the CV connector options, an External Audio Input, Velocity Connection and USB. What more could you ask for. Overall it's just very good quality. I did buy the Behringer Digital Reverb DR600 to dedicate it to the Synth to give the sounds such much needed depth. So yes I too suffer from GAS, I didn't need this Synth, but for the price, quality and features I had to have it! I got it from Alto Music because Sweetwater was out of them. I am now seeing they are out of Stock everywhere. Glad I grabbed it when I did.
Thank you much appreciated. Glad you came to my channel. Us small synth channels have to stick together. There’s a lot of big boys and girls out there that made their way up the synth chain and forgot out how they got there. I subscribe to those two channels that you suggested and yes those guys are awesome! Thanks again.
We are definitely kindred spirits. GAS is very real, but if you actually need and use the gear, it's a necessary process. I love my new toys, use them to create my music, and they make me a happy man. I don't miss very much about using a DAW. Thanks for the vids!
wow the sound in between each octave range is something that would drive me absolutely crazy if I was working on my own synth... I am surprised they left that in! But that is a huge nitpick of course. Wonderful clone. Looks and sounds fantastic!
Nah... selling my vintage Roland gear seemed to be a good choice. The SH101 for example... got €1100,- for it and now I rock the MS-1 for less then €300 (which sounds just as good imho).
Thomann has now the MK II version in store, only in red , even if they don’t changed the correct name on the side . I made a phone call and bought it today.
Nice demo..its monophonic i understand..have you try midi out to polyphonic synth..so can we play full chords..i plan to buy n used stereo polyphonic sound module..such as yamaha Mu 80..for live performance..eg chord pads..etc
Thought I'd update you on that Behringer Digital Reverb DR600. Although it sounds ok ,it's not great and very cheaply made. I thought it didn't take a 9 volt battery but then I discovered that you need to remove the Pedal part by pushing in 2 small buttons on the left and right of the actual pedal part and remove it. (There is no battery compartment on the bottom) Once I remove the pedal the spring mechanism came popping put. It was ridiculous trying to put it back together especially with the battery installed. When I finally did the Pedal would no longer turn off, stuck in the on position. I tried to remove it and assemble it again but it still didn't work.... I returned it to Amazon as defective! I love Behringer products but this DR600 Reverb pedal is a horrible design. I do not recommend this Reverb Pedal.
@@floyd101954 well thank you for that insight not every Behringer product is supreme are made supremely. That’s a fact I’m sorry that you experienced that.
@@EchoKraft Thank for your reply, this is my first time on your channel. Are there any markings on the device itself to allow us to determine which version we’re looking at? Does it for example same Mk2 anywhere on it? Subscribed.
@@xray2785 hi I’m not sure I’d have to take a look. From what I know they changed the name from MS101 to MS 1 because of copyright or trademark infringement‘s with Roland. Let me take a look and I’ll get back to you .
@@xray2785 So I checked the MS 1 for any signs of Mk2 and I came up empty handed. However, you got me thinking so I reached out to Behringer. Hopefully they will get back to me with an answer.
@@EchoKraft yes, I think you should check as the MS101 to MS-1 change was purely the name change. However, the change from the MS-1 Mk1 to the MS-1 Mk2 actually involve some improvements to the circuitry. I would check to make sure that you have the new model and if not, maybe return this if you’re able to wait for the new one, unless of course you got a very good price on this, in which case the differences are probably minor
As cool as this thing is I've had a hard time making something with it... I just can't write anything that sounds good... IDK what it is about it... and I KNOW countless great songs have been done with thing; hence why I'm on youtube trying to figure out why I can't use it properly
This is what I love about the Roland SH-01A. It has factory presets that show you what is possible with this synth. The MS-1 has a much more powerful output signal however, and that excellent FM modulation feature.
