Is there a DFAM in the Neutron?
No patch library for this one, I just didn't make one sorry.
#behringer #drums
Standalone drum patch for the Neutron, does not require midi or external keyboard etc.

I now have an Instagram for the channel. Just search up Avrilcadabra. Might show Sequence7th but if you see the cat you know it's me. Will post what I am working on or jamming on there

Hmm, you’re pretty much the Neutron’s Ambassador. You’ve basically provided me with a very comprehensive apprenticeship on the Neutron. All understanding of the Neutron that I had lacked that had me at a disadvantage has been provided to me in your channel. I THOROUGHLY enjoy your whole format. It’s silence really makes it hard to call it lecturing, but the subtitled ‘lecturing’ style is second to none. REALLY COOL how you’ve made all of your points with your fingertips! Thanks again and keep it up!!

Avrilcadabra Oh, there's more! Your upload where you tackled the original BladeRunner SoundTrack!? That one really sets you apart from the regulars, and earns you a spot as a very truly talented and insightful synthesist! I'll guess that you've either owned a cs80 once upon a time, or you studied someone else's demonstrations of those patches, but I doubt it that you're just that extremely lucky to have just coincidentally landed on those sounds. Just know this; that YOU ARE THE VALUE within my Behringer Neutron. I wouldn't be learning it so completely at the moment if I hadn't found your channel. It's the sort of synth that just gets a bit stubborn while I'm on it, so someone who can demonstrate a bunch of great ways to patch it, and get it to sound just like Vangelis' cs80?! You really are quite insightful, and really skilled with the Neutron!! Thanks again!!

Incredible patch, it's so surprising to have kick and snare (or HiHiat) just by using the inversion. it's very smart. I've got to see this video more times to try to understand well the role of each cable. Thanks for all this tuto. I don't know what a DFAM is, but i will look after that.

Thanks, DFAM was moogs little semi modular drum machine/synth. Behringer has cloned it these days, they sell it as the "Edge"

10:58 "Confusing as hell" ha ha, you could say that...but it is such a great tutorial for "new to modular" people like me, it is great how you break each bit down and explain why you are doing something. Learnt a massive amount from you, big thank you!!!!! Neutron is my first semi modular, it's quite a different (and enjoyable) way to make patches (I'm used to Reason and hardware synths). I'm utterly in awe how you even started to put all this together in the first place! Looking forward to your 'dirty acid patch' tutorial - I'm loving the Neutron for acid sounds even without the minijack intelligent spaghetti - "intellighetti" if you will :-) Love to see how you can take a basic acid sound and take it further with some clever patching!

It was my first semi modular too, and my second! I'm seeing neutron patches in my dreams at this point. I have not used Reason but grew up messing with Rebirth (had no idea what I was doing). Thanks for the comment I have really tried to concentrate on explaining the signal flow in the last few videos

@@avrilcadabra Wow how did you learn all the modular cleverness and patching? Did you work it all out yourself? Ah yes Rebirth blew my mind at the time (1997 I think it was)! I was running Cakewalk and a yamaha DB50XG card back then (cue nostalgic music...)!

When I got the neutron I had no idea what egate1 was. I couldn't find any videos about egate1. Through trial and error and deciphering instructions to eurorack modules I was able to figure it out. I think only in the last month's do I understand every feature in the neutron (except envelope retrigger setting I swear it's bugged) Now I just hear a cool patch on eurorack or some other synth and think hmm how could I do that on neutron. I'm not sure if this applies to everyone bit I am sure it is something everyone can learn. When I was programming computers a lot I learned to run the code in my mind. Whether reading code or writing code. I wrote code in the shower on walks etc. I recall watching a documentary about Dr Moog and he said he could look at a circuit board of his synths and see the music running through it. So even like now my neutrons are downstairs turned off. I can still make a patch in my mind I can imagine changing the cables and knobs how it will affect the voltage. So I would try practicing that with the functions in the synth you understand. If there are bits you don't understand go plug things or turn them in. Read the manuals a lot.

and i was wondering if you had any thoughts on this problem, www.gearslutz.com/board/electronic-music-instruments-and-electronic-music-production/1316185-behringer-neutron-can-i-get-2-seperate-lfo-patterns-one-per-osc.html#post14819274 , the crux being, can i generate 2 seperate pulse from the lfo and put them on separate oscillators. i'm fatberg, and somehow the explanation doesn't add up for me. i ran one mult to osc1 and the second mult to att1 and then to osc2 obtaining 2 different pitch variations from one lfo. so why am i unable to do that with the rhythm. thanks.

Nice one Av. I've been off net for a while so I think I have a bit of catching up to do. At 8:56 you made tea come out of my nose. This is a great tutorial. Have you thought of expanding on the idea by using both of your Neutrons? You could get some cool birhythmic stuff going, I'd warrant. Great vid as always. Thanks. Cheers, Dave

Thanks for the idea. Using the inverter to trigger opposite rhythms in the gate is such a useful concept! I found that if you patch into the slew between the mult 1 out and env1 gate, you can dial in a weird swing as you raise the slew knob. If you go past 12 o'clock it'll stop the patch though. I'm trying to figure out how to get it to swing differently though. It brings the kick forward toward the snare. It would be more musical to get the snare to move forward closer to the kick. Maybe with another inverter? Any ideas?
@avrilcadabra
@avrilcadabra 3 года назад
Interesting. Been awhile since I made the patch but if you swap the cables so it makes snare sound where the kick is and vice versa. It should do what you want. Cant remember if that's possible off the top of my head. Sounds like a good use of slew though

Hi Avril .. Im just trying this out .. for myself .. All is well except one thing .. At 13 min 16 secs you say cable 6 from att2 to sum1b .. did you put it in a or is it me .. does this make a difference the patch seems right the either way .. is this right ? great patch by the way .. 👍
@avrilcadabra
@avrilcadabra 4 года назад
You may be right. I think I decided A made more sense to start with while doing it but then when editing the video I referred to my notes which said B. Makes no difference which is in A or B. Good eye for catching that!

you can make drum`s with the neutron, but no patching can make it in such a beast like the dfam, no way. They are a really nice team, but the the Dfam is just a complete other kind of monster. The osscilators a way more powerfull, the filter is from another level and the whole sequencer and patchbay is just strange, also how the envelopse work is just a diffrent kind of monster. To compare them is near blasphemic. And i really like the neutron, i have them both.
@avrilcadabra
@avrilcadabra 3 года назад
I like my moog too. I've asked behringer to make a neutron with moog oscillator and filter. As I prefer them to the 3340 and moffat filter. That said I think you are overselling them. The neutrons filter doesn't cut bottom end like moogs ladder filter. Plenty of people prefer 3340 over moog oscillators even if I don't.

Hey! New to neutron! Could you use the second oscalator for leads and the another for drums like this?
@avrilcadabra
@avrilcadabra 3 года назад
This was making fair use of the neutron. You can somewhat independently control the oscillators but only one can use the filter. So maybe. Probably can do a kick and lead
