Thanks to everyone that asked for this one. Here it is.
I am unable to provide the patch-library link to this one, as the website timed out while posting and lost the patch. Apologies. will take more precautions next time.
Link to Andrew Huang's FM explaination video here • FM SYNTHS in under 4 m...
Gear used Behringer neutron recorded to Audacity via a QX1202USB mixer.
Reverb is from the mixer, Zoom ms-70CDR was also used in portions of this video.

Make sure your filter key tracking is on for this one. Forgot to mention during the video.

Thanks for this! It’s exactly the type of patch I wanted to get into. I made this at 3am with headphones. The sound is pretty massive. I gotta admit it’s got this creepiness about it that I wasn’t expecting. Like some distant dangerous Martian planet soundtrack. I’m so glad I decided to go for the neutron. It doesn’t disappoint.

Nice it is definitely a bit creepy. Someone told me they would listen to it while walking at night haha. Neutron is quite a deep synth.

I always check out your videos with the Neutron. As you were patching the sounds reminded me of the machines in the Langoleres movie. The sounds you were generating, is what I envisioned them sounding like as they munched away everything and anything. I have my Mercury 7 pedal connected to my Neutron, with my Polara and Obscura next in the effects chain. Also synced my Microfreak to the Neutron. What I have come up with, sounds like a massive space ship as I tweak the knobs. The Meris pedal really adds another dimension to sound production. Cheers from New Hampshire USA! 🎛 🔈 🔉 🔊

@@avrilcadabra Absolutely. The pitch control on the Meris Mercury 7 pedal is where it really shines. Definitely make a space ship sound track using the Mercury7, and feed it into the fx chain. Sync the Neutron to another synth, like the Microfreak. I will be watching. Love from New Hampshire USA! 🎛 🔈 🔉 🔊

At the beginning of the patch I can't get any sound (beyond a low hum) unless I open the filter a bit. Is this normal? I heard some crackling sounds at one point when I was trying to go to a really low octave, but it went away when I opened the filter and went to a higher octave (this was in normal use right after getting it). I also struggle to dial in the bell sound, but I know analog FM is extremely inprecise. edit: I can hear it in headphones with the filter set to 0 on both, but it's extremely quiet. I can hear the noise floor louder than the sound. Is there something potentially wrong with my unit?
@avrilcadabra
@avrilcadabra 4 года назад
I dont think it would be anything defective. I have 2 neutrons and they are both a little different. Since learning this I try to avoid making tutorials that require very precise knob positions. I had done a previous FM tutorial that was more straight forward than this one. Basically osc2 out into osc1 in. Set osc mix to 1. Osc2 range to 3 leds. Put them both on Sine shape. And move oscillator 2 until you hear the bell tone. Its normal for the patch in tutorials to not sound right until the patchbay is done. If this doesn't help ill follow the tutorial on my other neutron and see if i run into any problems recreating it

@@avrilcadabra Thank you so much for your help! Last night I read dozens of others echoing your comment about the units being different. I'll go through to the end of the patch and I think I can get the sound. The only issue I kept facing after I went back to the patch was a high noise floor with the VCA turned up so high, otherwise I could hear the FM sounds, just buried beneath a white noise floor. I read from others that this could simply be interference with other power supplies which would make sense. My studio has power supplies everywhere and I've already had grounding issues with a guitar amp. All of this makes sense and would explain the noise floor on the VCA. Still, I'm gonna go back to this later today. Thanks again! Just reaching out to me has been incredibly helpful.
@treizerotrei
@treizerotrei Год назад
@Jacob V. Burg, have you managet identify the issue? I seem to have the same problem, and I have the power supplies and audio lines pretty separate, so no interfence in here. In my case, I can hear sounds only when I have the filte high up? Could this be from the inside potentiometer that might be tuned a little darker?
@JacobVBurg
@JacobVBurg Год назад
@@treizerotrei I wish I could help you but I never figured it out. I don't notice other issues with my unit but I've put it through paces and back in the last two years. It has been so long since doing this patch tho that I haven't had the chance to encounter it again. Sorry if that isn't helpful!

Gadzooks! What sorcery is this? The entrails on the right are excited by the strange power of the red box. Such magic to behold :) P.S. Must tell Uli to get cracking on more boxes like this instead of reviving dead insects....as there are people who need more new, not more old.

They had a naming contest for a new semi modular that would be similar to the neutron. Think Atmos won. Looking forward to hearing more about it. Agree. Wish they did more original stuff but most people ask them for obscure clones
@fincorrigan7139
@fincorrigan7139 4 года назад
@@avrilcadabra Similar to the Neutron sounds good but different would be better I think. I wish they'd upgrade their clunky sequencer and add some decent reverb. A 3 oscillator ladder filter mono plus an inbuilt Arturia-like sequencer and a patchbay with more mults and individual control of the oscs. Not too much to ask?

Hello I can´t get sounds from my Neutron without patching the vcf to the vca in. I would like to use it withoit that patch, I saw that you can get sounds without that patch. ¿Can you help please? I saw lot´s of videos but no one explain that and give a solution.

I have a question. Is it possible/good idea to experiment witch patchs between 2 neutrons polychained?. I mean, for example, from an out of neutron 1 to the in of neutron 2.
@avrilcadabra
@avrilcadabra 3 года назад
I don't see why not. Though I have never done it that way. It is definitely fun patching them together in polychain unison or sequencing them separately. My next video (couple of days) has vcf out of 1 going into the other then modulating them both to have the sound move about the stereo field. I like doing that sort of thing. I think anything stereo is great with 2 neutrons
@unic0de-yvr
@unic0de-yvr 3 года назад
FM modulation between your polyphonic voices might sound pretty wild! I've got a Neutron and a Crave wired up to each other into one big 3-osc monosynth and the FM timbres coming out of that are ginormous.

This is really cool. Tried it with my Neutron, I didn't get exactly the same sounds though. Not sure what I might have cocked up.
@avrilcadabra
@avrilcadabra Год назад
They are all calibrated a bit different being analogue, after I got a second one I tried to make sure the tutorials going forward were more tolerable to variations in neutrons. It will most likely be the big tuning knobs on this patch (even the temperature will affect it)
@Pablo668
@Pablo668 Год назад
@@avrilcadabra thanks for the answer. Yeah I thought it could be something like that. I did get them close at times. Also I don’t think I took into account that the patch is kinda cyclic, going through forms/frequencies etc. Thanks for doing this vid btw.

"neutron has normalized default routing of the lfo into attenuator 2 and attenuator 2 by default goes into attenuator 1"... where do you even find this stuff out?? Lovely patch btw! :)
@avrilcadabra
@avrilcadabra 4 года назад
Thanks! There is a flow chart diagram on page 21 of the manual that includes an attenuator section, it shows LFO uni goes to attenuator2 then attenuator 2 goes to 3 destinations, pw1, pw2 and att1. Pretty easy to miss even if you have read the manual. Maybe it is for the worse as it's probably the one of the biggest complaints I see about the neutron that the lfo is affecting the sound. But it will always be mod depth, att2 and or att1 is open.

it is just the neutron, you can see the unused midi plug next to the volume knob, there is an LED to the left of the midi port that lights up if it receives midi from 5 pin din or usb.
