Excellent demo. I’ve been waiting for this release more than any I can think of in recent memory. Really seems like they nailed this one. Super musical.
Will they be doing more cloning? Here's a theory: Behringer's purpose in cloning has been to establish a reputation for quality synth gear. They could have attempted it with original stuff but it would have been hard for them to create anything close to the rabid desire we've had for their Model D, and their other clones. So I think their mid term strategy is get those clones in the hands of players and the press and become one of the "go to" manufacturers for synths with amazing value... Once that is established (they are at least half way there), they will branch out into original stuff using the chassis of the Model D/Neutron and The Crave minimizing their production costs. Think of a whole line based on The Crave. Different Oscillators, that crazy connectivity. Like the Volca, with the similar price point but far bigger bang for the buck.
I don't know what their long-term strategy is, but they DEFINITELY are being intelligent about how they're changing the perception of their brand. Watching youtube demos of the Deepmind quite a while back, I was struck by two things: 1, the amazing sound and capabilities of the DM at that price point. OK. But 2: the total absence of the word "Behringer" on the back of the synth? That amazed me. It suggested an amazing self-awareness of how their brand was (rightfully) fairly negatively perceived. Decent stuff for cheap, right? So they just released a great instrument and left their name basically hidden, and let the synth speak for itself. Same thing with the Model D. Then the Neutron. It's bold and shows the extraordinary amount of confidence they have in the quality of their new lines. The perception of the Behringer brand is already (rightfully) waaay different than it was even 5 years ago.
As an owner of an original Arp Odyssey Mark III I say the Behringer Odyssey sounds great. I like the extra features and you can't beat the price. This synth is capable of creating complex patches. Too bad there is no Patch memory storage. That would make it a great live show monster!
Great demo! The original ARP Odyssey MKIII was the first synth I ever played back in 1978, and I currently have the Korg Odyssey, but I sure would love to get my hands on this one!
I like this synt, I feel better that the moog sound that I love too, but there is something in this instrument that give me more vibe. Great demo, this instruments needs this type of demo for justice! Thanks man

I have the OG Odyssey and I will be buying one of these without doubt :) Sounds great and you can bet the price point will be cheap enough to warrant buying one to take out live with you if you don't want to risk the original getting floored/pinched/spilled on. Add in the effects and you've already decluttered some floorspace/leads.

I am new to synths and totally blown away by the sound of this remake+ of the Arp. Still I have listened to this synth for many years in music from the seventies and beyond. But I never knew. So informed and ignorant at the same time.

So you pick up this stuff just by playing with the thing? How would a novice go with one of these or would something simpler be better? Was thinking about it for my 5 yr old & me of course.
Thanks for sharing which one comes closer to original Odyssey the Korg or Behringer I wonder is it possible to get the sound of the intro to Fox On The Run by the Group Sweet they used an ARP Odyssey.
Mine is arriving the day after tomorrow, this is an absolute fantastic buy for the money and it even looks beautiful as well. Behringer are climbing the success ladder pretty quick these days, I’m going to find it hard not to purchase a CS80 when they release it. I hope it will have fx too!!

Schaut nach Spass aus! Was ich höre gefällt mir. Behringer macht viel richtig. Allerdings wäre es schön, wenn sowas mal weitergesponnen wird. Wieso nur alte Klassiker neu auflegen, wieso nicht mal einen Polyssey? Es gibt viele Möglichkeiten sowas nicht nur zu replizieren, sondern auch was frisches zu machen. Wieso eigentlich keinen Jupiter 8? oder Jupiter 16 mit feinen FX und speicherbar? Wäre der nicht sehr begehrt?
questo synth è una gran figata! Behringer sta facendo degli strumenti di altissimo livello a prezzi decisamente alla portata di tutti. Prevedo che questo Odyssey di Behr sotterrerà quello della Korg. Un caloroso grazie a Behringer!!! :-)
Se non hai problemi di spazio avere uno strumento che pesa 10 kili e fotte il culo a ogni virtual analogue che ci siamo sul mercato , purtroppo non salva le pach e per chi come me non ha pc è un problema snervante

The Behringer D adds an LFO, patch points, HPF, and separately switchable loudness/filter decay to the Moog design, while shrinking it to Eurorack size. I'd call that a win. "Toy sized" is Roland Boutique.
Consider making a series of videos that show beginners how to learn sound design on analog synthesizers. Use the Odyssey normalized design and show how students can setup other products. An older book teaches music using synthesizers. It's archived on the Internet. My Behringer Odyssey, unfortunately, sits dorment. As a beginner, I prefer my analog modeling synthesizers with presets. The Yamaha MODX6, for example, has 2200 sounds to explore. The Roland MC-707 has 3000. Thanks for producing videos.
Great Demo... but, is there no Paraphonic Mode on this? It's one of the most inspiring features of the original... (i own a arp avatar, the keyless version of the odyssey since 1986...)
ULTIMATE PATCHES Not having presets comes with its own benefits though. Really helps you learn the synth inside and out and focuses energy on being creative. Maybe it pushes you to create a new patch (and maybe by extension a whole new song) every time you turn the synth on. Patch saving is nice but not always necessary. Especially on a mono synth.
I believe to understand your point, but when playing a song it's not possible to switch quick enough to a complete other sound. But with the Behringer price attack people can buy 2 pieces of this nasty gear and all problems are solved.
@@sonorstudio1 ??? then how did all the people that played these live back in the 70s change sounds? Cmon man. Also, do you understand the overhead and cost that would be involved to add patch storage? It becomes a much different synth at a much different price.
Simplistic in its layout. No menu diving or patch storage is welcome. Made it this long without em. Keep it simple, like the original. Rather it do a few things great than many things so so
I mean every VCO synth is gonna sound different. One odyssey will sound different from the next. It’s the nature of analog components. Unless you’ve owned and played an original extensively, you wouldn’t know if they sound similar.
Holy crap the Gary Numan in me wants one and judging by the display it will prob have patch memories too ! .... if they do a module like the Deepmind then I`ll defo get one ! woop
