Edit: This video was made in fun prior to the launch of the Pro 800. 🙂 Original description: Well, we have a price and release date for the Behringer Pro 800. Here's my biggest gripe. Are you happy about the Pro 800 so far?
Among other gear, I own a Behringer Odyssey, Model D, Neutron, 2600 and Deepmind 12. They are all terrific in their own ways, and given what I would have paid for the originals (of the ones that are remakes) if anyone wants to criticize me, feel free, while I relish the fact that I'm having a great time, learning a ton, and still have money in my bank account.

I don’t care if people buy their products but for some reason people feel like it’s a personal attack when someone brings out all the reasons why Behringer is a bad company of which there are many. I just think what they are doing is ultimately boring. I would have never bought a vintage synth and I don’t want a remake of those vintage synths. I want new and innovative things and there’s lots of companies doing innovative stuff at cheap price points, Behringer isn’t the only one making cheap good sounding synths.

Price point is ok for a 8 voice analog obviously it has alot of digital modulation , patch storage as well as full gilgli mods . Hard to beat. Even if it doesn't quite sound like a p600 appreciate it for what it does.
I probably going to get one when they come out but the only letdown for me is the lack of output and ins on the modular side of things. it only has 4 so you will only be able to sequence it etc etc. if it was possible to somehow have patch points on all the individual voices and filters etc etc and other things to make it multi-timbral for Eurorack it would be much better.
I knew something was off, the 8 is upside down. I own the Neutron and the Model and plan on getting the Deepmind 12 as well. I think this may be another great buy. The others sound amazing so I am confident this will be as well. They do need to turn that 8 around.
Yeah it looks a little crazy! Someone here told me that the font is set up that way so it's correct - but it still seems upside down - haha! Yeah, this looks to be a decent buy, especially stacked agains the price of the actual Prophet 600...
I wish they had put USB on the front panel as with Cat and Model D and PWM A as a third destination for Poly Mod (as on P5) would have been fantastic. I will live with both those small shortcomings.
Ha! Great observation. What a weird error! I won't get into the politics either but I did notice that original 600s cost over $3000 USD these days. They are just not worth that kind of money, meaning that you would probably not feel you got your money's worth after a spend like that. Since Behringer owns Cool Audio and can put the CEM3340 clone chips in, this seems like a hit at the announced price point. That said, the 600 is not known for heavy routing capabilities. It's not the most versatile instrument but is great at what it does. That seems to be mimiced on the 800 which is perhaps a missed opportunity.
The upside-down 8 doesn't bother me as much as Behringer's decision to stick with those wretched membrane buttons on the left side of the panel. Sure, it makes the thing look and feel more like the original, but come on, guys, can't you do better than that?!
quite the clickbait title, lol yeah, people tend to record videos with lossy audio, like MP3 or AAC or whatever, then upload to youtube, resulting in re-encoding by youtube to their lossy standard, which colors the sound as well as reduces fidelity MY actual disappoint is that this sounds like it just isn't for me. I still look forward to the eventual Jupiter-8 clone they have in the works (and only that one, the rest don't interest me). I'm curious about what they will do as far as the Polysix clone ("PolyEight"), I'm mildly interested.

I hadnt seen that the 8 is upside down but now I cant UNSEE it. THANKS PAL But for real, I've been wanting to get some variety of prophet lineage clone. I actually prefer module synths as opposed to those with key beds, and maybe I'm doing my setup harm in maintaining this belief. I just have like 4 midi key controllers in my rig that I can route to midi channels rather easily, all of which goes through my MPC1000 and so I can record input on any channel from any controller to any device at any time, saving me the money that Behringer or Roland or Korg would otherwise HAVE to charge me. The price has me a bit weary at the moment, just because I dont find myself playing my synths enough to justify running to the store and paying $600 for yet another module, but in the realm of Prophet clones, it is the one that has most caught my eye
Haha - you’re welcome! 😆 I don’t think there’s any harm at all in having modules with a good controller. In fact in some cases it might be better that way as you won’t risk having a bad experience with a lower quality keybed. Thanks for stopping by!!
Never been a Behringer fan (for other reason out side of the obvious as well) but the nice thing is that they are as cheep as stuff gets. So if I’m gonna be disappointed with a product I’m gonna hope it’s a Behringer one cause that means I didn’t waist to much money lol
I’m very likely to get the 800 because I used to own the original 600 and even though I would rather have the Pro-16 I’m not sure how long I would have to wait for it’s release date.
U could sell lil vinyl decals with the correct way up 8, to stick over the top of this frankly abhorrent flaw that Behringer are forcing upon us. I suspect they'd sell quite well.
My only disappointment is seeing that Mylar touch pad again. I own a Prophet 600 and they do sound great, but I'm on my third touch pad. It would have been great to see a more modern approach. But having said that, if they have improved the contacts and that flimsy ribbon cable behind it, I would be ok with it. They work well but they're not very durable.
@@mwmusic29 exactly!That little plastic ribbon connector on the left hand control panel board is hard to find. It’s just getting harder to find parts that were made 40 years ago. I will be buying the P800 when it comes out, really just to have access to the prophet sound should my P600 die.
if they were thoughtful enough to bring GliGli into the development process and implement all of hismods, I would hope they would be thoughtful enough to avoid such issues as a membrane pad that breaks down. i guess we'll see
This probably sounds funny but I'm actually more annoyed when they reveal them in videos and they act like they invented it. Like when they say "introducing". They should say here is our take on " insert instrument here " I especially hated it when they did it with the DFAM clone that they're making. It's actually annoying because the DFAM is still in production

I'm moving from drums to keys because of an injury and the lack of synth player among my gig buddies, a friend gave me a Korg Trinity and I was looking to buy a Behringer model D for some retro synthy stuff, but now that the Pro 800 is coming I'm thinking it'd be a great option
Man, you've got a great friend indeed if they gave you a Trinity! One of my favorite synths!! Definitely dive into that one... Also, keep in mind you could use it as the controller for the Pro 800 as it has a pretty nice keybed. Enjoy!!
The sound is great even via YT...but they could have put in a proper display and heavy duty push buttons. Why on Earth do they replicate even the problems? (membrane buttons and LED display, grrrrrrrr)
Considering that I'm not a synth user, per se, this looks like it would work, for me. This rabbit hole is very deep. I considred the Minilogue, but it takes up a lot of room, and I have a Keystep 37. I considered the Minilogue XD, but synth users don't seem to be crazy about it. I have outboard effects, so that's not an issue. I just sold the Microfreak, because I can't stand the Menu diving you have to do, with that. The 800 looks like a good deal, to me.
I have high hopes for this module! For a person who has room I can see a full blown reproduction of the 61 key synth being a really great option but I think this module will really appeal to space conscious users. Thanks for stopping by!
This synth came out at least a year too late. It's missed the window as Minifreak and ASM pitched in at direct competition at the price. Can we still be romantics about pure analog? Ask yourself this. What do you really want?
Well, it's just a minor gripe. My biggest gripe is that there is no really revolutionary conception behind this. There is no really cool additional features that could be made like patch points to modulate oscillator frequencies, oscillator to LFO frequency and so on... There is a plenty of space to add patch points! My "pink dream" is a synth where it would be possible to modulate things between voices. At least a simple AM would be cool. I've experienced it even in C64! :D Yes, there is RM (AM) between voices. It works and gives great inter-tones. A similar FM would be possible and could give innovative experimental patches. Otherwise it's just another really great sounding synth! YT now gives pretty close to the real sound quality. The codecs were changed to the best existing I believe.

The upside down 8 = FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS! Haha, Just kidding :p Probably a prototype anyway? A lot of the preset sounds are glorious to my ears even with the weedy RU-vid compression etc. Agree? I've owned two Prophet 600s in the past and they are marvelous synthesizers.
Im a liyyle disappointed w the pricepoint. Partially because of the vid. It says "u shouldnt have to pay for polyphony" then givea a price double a pro1. I wouldve been floored w a 400 peice tag and satisfied w 500. 600 im a little disappointed w. Starts getting comparable w the logue xd, cobalt 5s, and fairly close to the deepmind 6. Im not flipping tables over it. Had it been more i wouldve criticized this heavily. Ill actually be in the market for a poly, replacing a mks7. Ill keep this on my radar, but ill likely go w a used deepmind or hydrasynth desktop.
Yeah it would be interesting to know what considerations went into the pricing decision. I think it seems like a fairly decent price but my basis for that perspective is knowing what it would take to get a real Prophet 600. In that case the price seems reasonable. BUT when you compare it to similar types of current products out there it becomes a little more complicated, as your comment illustrates. Will never happen but would love to see Behringer put two of these engines together with their new poly-AT keyboard to make a 16-voice, bi-timbral keyboard synth for under $1,500.
@@mwmusic29 - I had the same thought when ASM came out with the Hydrosynth a few years ago. I thought to myself "wouldn't it be great if they did what Yamaha did with the DX-5 and Roland with the JX-10 and stick 2 engines in one box with a longer keyboard." The difference is ASM actually did it. Behringer almost certainly won't. Still waiting for my check.😂😂
With 600 euros I always prefer to buy VST premium, modular eurorack, Korg or Novation, for me buying is behringer is like wasted money and supporting a company that does not have its own ideas but only dedicates itself to copying from others
Already been disappointed by uli crap a few times over the years,maybe its cheap but i know my"name brand" gear will still be working long after the beringer stuff glitches out and gets recycled into my spare parts bins
Font nerd here, the typeface is called Uncial and at least in the Monotype version, which is probably what this is using or based off, the 8 looks the same, it seems to be part of the design choice for that typeface.
I disagree with you not being able to go by what you hear of sound quality on RU-vid. Compromised as it may be, streaming services ARE how people are going to listen to your music. Maybe some day there will be high quality FLAC or better mainstream streaming. Still most listeners can't even tell the difference between WAV and MP3 which is a shame. My own music even the softsynths sound so much better on 32 bit 44.k masters its unbelievable which is why all my bounces start as that. I agree about the upside down 8 though, but if you look ate the Prophet 600 logo the circle part of the 6 is a similar proportion smaller than the following 0's but the top part is over emphasized to drive the 8 voices part home.

Neil young promoted a FLAC / Lossless audio streaming site, there's also tidal and a couple of other I'm sure if you are interested. If you've got the right system it make sense
i think from the little demo we've heard, the release envelope sounds weirdly bad. I'm not one to care about that sort of thing but it something about it is ugly and goofy and reminds me of a tuba.

Polyphonic synths need two filters, velocity and polyphonic aftertouch modulation ; other wise they'll sound like cheesy 80s LoFi. I would argue that a rack-mountable synth of that sort should normally have CV's in and out with various insertion points. Behringer could have easily charged twice as much for something that would give a Deckard, Polybrute or Moog One, a run for their money. Not smart to cut the potential feature set, purely to emulate an archaic synth design.
It's a "nostalgic approach" and it gives results and sales. Yep, this synth could be something really revolutionary. But Uli has other plans. Well... We must be glad and thankful to Behringer for the price tags at least. And the quality for this price range! It's unbeatable.
