For 300 dollars you can’t complain. I started out making music with propellerhead’s rebirth in 96/97. I couldn’t even afford to pay for a paid version. However the demo version lasts for 20 minutes. I figured the 808 in and out in 20 minute periods. Finally when I met someone who could build me a Yocto 808 clone from Germany, all of those hours on rebirth 338 clicked and composing was so easy on it. Even when I got my RD-9 all of the functions made sense. 808 / 909 clones may not be as flexible as modern machines but with hours of practice you can learn to write music with BPM variations and all. Think about it there’s drummers who will use the same 5 pc set for so many different recording sessions because what matters is your tuning skills and playing skills, alright rant over. Just subscribed to your channel. Piece

I 100% agree. An analog drum machine is truly an instrument, especially anything with an x0x0x sequencer. It can be learned, played, and mastered. My feeling on this is unit is that for an analog drum machine this thing is an absolutely amazing steal. If it’s what you’re after it’s a great buy. If you want to make edm kind of stuff or techno that’s more sample/designed sounds, this might not be the right fit. To your point I was able to figure this thing out in 2 minutes because I’ve used Reason Redrum for so long haha. So no rant here! I agree with you dude! Thanks for watching!

This is a big step up in production quality...but when will Squarepulse be putting affiliate links in the video description?
@SquarepulseMusic
@SquarepulseMusic 2 года назад
Hah! Thanks so much Vincent! I did try and do affiliate links but I was too small time when I started in the affiliate program and Amazon dropped me. Might be time to get back to it!

This video will be the reason this synth goes up in price

I think if this format becomes popular it will definitely happen. One of the synths I reviewed went up $200 since I reviewed it haha - not sure if I was to blame for that but it is my most viewed video

You millennial's got no idea how the best rap songs were created in early 80's. Grandmaster Flash, RUN SMD, Biz Markie, KRS One, etc.. all started with using eq'd down metronome.
@SquarepulseMusic
@SquarepulseMusic 2 года назад
Hey hey! Do you have any videos to share about this process? I actually studied the history of Hip Hop in college if you can believe it and I don't recall a metronome being involved in the process. Feel free to share any info! I'm happy to read up on it. Also, YES we live in a golden era - you can make music on your phone easier than you could make it on a computer 10 years ago. It's crazy! Gear is really no longer a limitation in the world of creation these days. - This guy has had a full on career and produces it all on his iPhone! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E6BxAtc5cd0.html

The orginal 303, 606, sh-101, MC-202 was even worse buildqulity goes britle plastic, Behringer feels better,.. owned them all in the 90's I think Behringer has done a very good job,...also at a decent price =)

I have been pretty impressed with the build and sound of these devices! The 303 clone had to be plastic because that’s just the personal brand of that device. I just got the RD-9 so review incoming!!!! Generally I’ve only been impressed so far with their analog offerings

Maybe it was cheaper because the mk2 was coming out? Not much difference aside from the white keys now being black

I got mine as a B Stock so maybe that’s why? Either way, it’s a great piece of kit! Behringer has really followed through on this analog hardware initiative I thought was going to be an empty promise. All the stuff I’ve tried sounds great!

@@SquarepulseMusic I have become a big fan of theirs. Bought guitar pedals first, to see what I like, then a poly d, a mixer, and a pa. About to go in on an rd-8 also.

Thanks for the rec and def open to that. I have the Elektron Digitakt and it’s the best thing ever for live performance. I have a few other synths in the hopper to review and just reserved an RD-9 for when they’re back in stock…but def will reply here once I can get a Model Cycles for review.

BTW if you vill review the TD-3 you vill not be disapointed It is spot on, i used to have a orginal Roland TB-303 in the studio in the 90's that a friend of mine brought there, so i know how they sound and behave an the TD-3 is spot on + some added features as midi DIN and USB, it sounds great,...so lookin forward to see ya' review the TD-3 =)

Thank you for watching!! I actually did review the TD-3 and had a fun time with it, definitely a fun synth puzzle to figure out!! Those acid boxes are no joke to program. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ogSO_2Ol6_M.html ! Have a good one and I agree that the features they added made it really functional in a modern studio setting!

Are you talking about the RD-8? The dual mode filter is analog and the Wave Designer is apparently some kind of circuit, so I don't believe it's DSP. Based on everything I've read it's digitally controlled but 100% analog signal path. Do you know something I don't?
@MaximilianoSchneider

The smiley face sticker on the TD-3 it's because of the Acid House. The Roland TB-303 was the most important sound in the Acid House and that's why they put the sticker on the box. The Roland TR-808 is not connected with the Acid House at all, and that's probably why they didn't put any smiley face stickers. BTW the Roland TR-6s (and/or TR-06, 08 and 09) are not using samples for the 606, 707, 808 and 909 sounds. They're using analog modelling (ACB) and you can tweak the sounds without any kind of degradation. ACB basically replicates the behavior of the original machines, adding more modern features like changing the tune, release, attack and some other things. The TR-6s uses samples too, but not for the Roland TR machines. Thanks for the video!
@SquarepulseMusic
@SquarepulseMusic 2 года назад
Thanks for the notes! Def aware of the reason for the smiley face sticker haha. Love acid house and was super interested in trying out the 303 rip as well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ogSO_2Ol6_M.html ! Also agree about the Roland TR machines. I have a TR-8S and love the ACB sounds but do love the flexibility of being able to toss in samples! Thanks so much for watching and for interacting!

@@SquarepulseMusic I have both Roland's TB-3 and the TB-03 and I bought the TD-3 because it was super cheap and I wanted to check by myself if there's any noticeable sound difference between the analog machine and the analog modeling ones, and they sound pretty much the same, or at least, you can get the similar results with any of these machines, and have a lot of fun. The TB-3 sonically speaking is the most diverse. The TB-03 is the closest to the TB-303 as a whole experience, from the sounds to the programming, and you can program it using the classic weird sequencer or a modern version, and finally the TD-3 it's a nice machine but usually I would prefer to work with the TB-03 because I can program any single parameter on the machine, from the filters to the decay and more, something that you can't do with the TD-3 because it's a full analog machine, so what you play in realtime is what you're going to have and there's no way to tweak the sound later. Of course the TB-303 works like that, but a modern machine can offer much more than a 40 years old synth, so for live, the TD-3 it's a really nice machine. For the studio, I prefer the TB-03.
@SquarepulseMusic
@SquarepulseMusic 2 года назад
@@MaximilianoSchneider Absolutely! Different strokes for different folks! The TD-3 to me was more like a puzzle than a musical instrument. I had fun using it, but not sure I'd use it a ton in my actual production rig due to all the limitations on control and how brutal the sequencing was. It still sounded great and was insanely well priced! All of these devices have their caveats. I'm no analog purist by any means and think the ACB stuff Roland has developed is amazing!

Max clearly you weren't around in the acid house scene. But i will call you out. The 808 and 303 were the flagship Roland machines in the Acid House Scene. A guy called Gerald, 808 State, Phuture, Marshall Jefferson, Joe Smooth to name but a few were using the TR808 & the TB-303 to define a generation. After this the 909 turned up in the late 80's in tracks like Mr Fingers & Inner City & Adamski, Guru Josh, Madonna etc. Your timeline is stickers on a Behringer Clone. Man up and learn 💪

Thanks for watching and stopping by man! Also thanks for the reco on the other video. I’ll def check out the po-14. I have the knock out and have loved it but I sometimes find it to be a bit too much programming in a calculator sized device hah!
@sweetlasers
@sweetlasers 2 года назад
@@SquarepulseMusic totally agree about the KO. I think because its a sampler, theres this urge to want to turn it into a groovebox/mini-DAW and it quickly becomes too much. The best PO's have one simple function and i think the Sub is the essence of that (the drum machines rhythm and tonic are dope too)
