This sounds fantastic. Behringer really took the time to make this 909 wonderfully playable, with features we wished the original had. Amazing. Great demo. Thanks.
this is a great drum machine and a great machine for experimentation too, look at all those outputs you can put a different pedal on each one of them, I mean that really opens up the possibilities
For me this is the best drum machine Roland have made in the past, damn this kick and snare are beefy as fuck ^^ im a bit tired of the 808 people seems to like it in hip hop, but the most savage one is the 909 especialy if you put a distortion behind it !!! ( instant rave sound from the 90's.)
Guys I've discovered something that blew my socks off. The RD9 accepts midi CC. I found this out completely by accident but CC75 affects the RD9 hi hats pitch. Let me know if it works for you guys and if you find out any other CCs that work. Can't find the midi implementation chart anywhere.
Nice clone, sounds close enough! I went for a TR8S when choosing between an RD8, TR-09, TR-08 etc etc. Having all the classic drum machines in a single box with all the added functionality the 8S brings makes it hard to beat, if making music is your goal. I think I'd get bored with this in all honesty, unless I was into gear hoarding / nostalgia / analogue fetishism
yep, I am the same way. Roland TR8S is a workhorse. And it has Trigger outs so you can add an external analog kick, snare and a clap if you want. Of course you can load bunch of samples too.
@@synthetic24 6 is so lackluster tho.. like you either need dedicated outputs or you are fine with them all coming through the output. Why go that far as to have extra outs, while making the user compromise and make subgroups?
They're doing the right thing by their shareholders. Investors aren't interested in old products, especially ones that were commercial failures. Analogue purists, even the 909 has digital samples for the ride, crash and cymbal FFS 😂🤦♂️
Dear Behringer, this instrument is unplayable, i much apreciate the "wave designer", but if you dont have space to respect the original distance between the knobs, drop these "nu" feartures for more real estate to the original functions. it's impossible to jam and use the knobs for muting instruments, A la original TR909 every time you're doing a live act and jam by fadding instruments it's almost impossible to do it without touching the adjacent knobs. my honest sugestion, in case you "HEAR US" is that you offer some kind of replacement knobs, or at least for the cost of manufacturing, only a set per rd-9 serial number maybe, i dont know. These knobs, as they grow tall, they should be slimmer on the tops of the knobs making it so there is more space between them where you grab them. is it awesome for such affordable clone? of course yes... but if it's impossible to do a propper live jam without touching other knobs, it makes the instrument as-a-full-clone worthless. i know, i can remove the tuning knobs before starting a set sure, but there's still the question of the HIGH TOM, RIM, CLAP volumes being way to close together.. ill probable commit myself to a mental hospital if you ever thing about making a "boutique" version... are the knobs going to be glued together hahahah :D it's almost impratical for us, end users to manufacture such knobs without wasting a TON of money, so please behringer, fix this. Im posting this comment in every rd-9 video in hope someone from behringer reaches out, if you're the owner of this video and somewhat agree, pin it so there's more chances or someone from behringer to see this.
Although I respectfully disagree with your opinion regarding the distance (I find it quite sufficient) - why not simply change the caps? It's just pulling them off and replacing them with smaller ones as these are pretty standard pieces.
nice job - tip: when you do really fast rolls if you adjust the swing you will get tonal differences, so especially if using toms or RS you can create almost pitched changes, nice when saving swing levels on adjacent patterns ;-)
Sounds Great. I have just received my RD9. Wheres the instruction manual??? Only quick set up guide and seems to be no instruction online. Am I missing something ?? How did you learn the machine ????
I have a TR8-s and it sounds killer, but this seems to sound better at the 909 stuff. The TR-8S is really amazing, but I doesn't seem to have the punch that this does. of course I don't have one in my house to compare , but listening to this, makes me want to order one right now. Is it pure analog?
The drum machine I (and many others) was waiting for! Sure, samples cover everything this machine does, but in the end, I'd be using 90% 909 samples. x0x sequencer, 909 sound, enough pattern memory, ... All in all, everything I need/want from a drum machine.
@@Steven_Random_Suffix will be worth the wait tr909 for a realistic price music is dead we cant make money from it so now we can atleast have the equipment we always dreamed of.
I guess these differences are quite subtle so my advice would be to not rely on a youtube demo, tbh. I've seen (heard) it several times that the YT compression cut away relevant parameters of the sound (e.g. when I did a 303 comparison for another YT channel. The subtle noise of the BA662 had been deleted completely after the compression). Would be curious to hear your thoughts again after trying out the unit by yourself, if you don't mind.
its going to get compressed to fuck later on anyway. The TR-909 I recorded sounded like it needed a lot of compression anyway. Most records (the ones I like anyway) have 909s processed to fuck
@@atommachine I am thinking about it as well, but I have brilliant 909 samples in my Octatrack, MPC and computer, so I think I am just going to give it the skip...or impulse buy an RD-9 when people flog it for peanuts.
I’ve recorded the main out straight into a field recorder. No additional processing nor effect in this demo. So yes, the rd9 clap is more on the voluminous side
@@limbicbits not thru the direct out it won't be as present, if your waveshaper was doing even a little work it brings it up. I've actually stopped recording the sounds from the splits and just track out the stuff I need from the waveshaper. Great thing about having the rd8 and 9 together is you own a stereo waveshaper with external access.
LOL Shawn Rudiman. Imitation Techno. All the gear, all the sounds, none of the soul. Empty and devoid of anything that makes me want to dance. Never liked anything he's put out. Heard him play live numerous times, sucked every time. I've also heard that he's a massive turd personality-wise. Having a huge studio full of gear does not make you a great artist.
hi! it seems that each song can have 16 patterns and each pattern can have several loop bars... but it seems that the song is limited to 16 changes between different patterns... right?
I would have bought many more Behringer products if they were available. I have a Poly D, Odyssey and RD-8. Everything else, by the time it was available I didn't want it anymore or found something else. The 2600 and RD-9 will be available when?
2600 and RD-9 are already available to order at Thomann (see link in the video descriptions). They ship worldwide. Due to the high demand, you'd have to wait a couple of weeks but if you place a preorder, at least you'd be included in the next shipment.
