Not sure if you'll see this as I realise I am late to the party but a few questions - How do groups work with the four main mixes? If I have a drum group, and go sends on fader for one of the main mixes, if I turn up the individual drum tracks, would this bypass the drum group (like turning on the main LR switch on an analogue desk)? More generally, now you've had it a while, how are you getting on? Do new team members find it impossible to use, or is it pretty straightforward once you have your workflow planned out? Thanks!
@AWTechTuesday
@AWTechTuesday 3 года назад
@@stephenevans2518 I imagine that you can send individual channels to your main mixes independently of the group. However, I’m not sure how the Wing handles delay compensation so I’d probably avoid that to be safe. Here’s a video showing what I mean on the X32 - m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dAoiGeSdH2s.html We don’t have a ton of volunteers rotating on the Wing at the moment but those that are on it seems to be really enjoying it. I usually have to get involved when they start adding instruments because we have a pretty intricate audio network but, other than that, it’s been a great experience for the other operators :) -Chad

@@AWTechTuesday Great, thank you for the quick response! To clarify I wouldn't want to send the channels via the group and directly at the same time, I am just trying to work out how likely it can be done by accident. Do you bother with the whole source naming thing? I couldn't see the point when I first heard about it, but then I reckon it could be handy if you can name it something that corresponds with the socket on stage
@AWTechTuesday
@AWTechTuesday 3 года назад
@@stephenevans2518 so, I’m 50/50 on that. When everything is labeled correctly, I love it. And the wing allows you to name sources from the channel strip and vice versa. However, when something changes and now the names are mismatched, it becomes very hard to focus on what you’re doing and it’s easy to make errors. So, if I’m going to reroute my inputs, I will often go through and strip all the names first so I don’t get confused by the old assignments.
@stephenevans2518
@stephenevans2518 3 года назад
@@AWTechTuesday I don't think I explained what I meant, I totally agree that naming the sources as guitar, bass etc is likely to be a pain if you change anything, I was more thinking if you have multiple stageboxes on stage, you can name one A and the other B or something and then use the source names to make it more clear exactly which XLR it is on the stage. We have quite different bands each week, and I have tended to keep sources to channels on the X32 and just rename it to what gets plugged in, but with the Wing it seems easier to have consistent channels, and then name the sources as what XLR it is on stage, so you can easily patch something to the right channel

29:43 - I agree with your advice about not removing channels from the stock channel banks (customizing is best left to the user groups)... however, it IS possible to quickly select a channel that is currently unassigned. This can be done by accessing the Meter function, then tapping on the channel you want to manipulate. This will then call the stock group of channels to appear on the middle section of the mixer. Still not idea, but faster than editing a bank to manually add in a missing channel.

The best video about WING can be found on internet. Couldn't teke my eyes of for even a single second. Thanx for taking time on this videos. Can we use WAVES plugins and a regular Multirack app on a desktop with this mixer for Live situation with changing the insert point that is not gonna affect or cause issue to monitor/in-ear mixes? I hope you got my point.
@AWTechTuesday
@AWTechTuesday 4 года назад
Sunny Shohortoli Off the top of my head, the only ways to do that would be 1- if you only had a few channels you were trying to process, you could use the external FX insert and send a tap point before the insert to the monitor mixes. However, there is a limited number of these available. 2- if you have enough channels to double patch, you could for example send an unprocessed vocal to the monitors on one channel and patch the processed audio to a second channel. Again, you are limited by your number of channels in this instance.

that console seems to be a bit of overkill for a personal mixer. a good 24 channel analog mixer like midas and a high res 24 channel audio interface will be much more inspiring. you can insert one daw channel per mixer channel and do all the dsp in the puter. then you are much more flexible for future dsp upgrades and IT WILL SOUND A LOT BETTER. thats studio use of course and a lot less channels.

Not sure if he has the early version firmware (probably does) but doesn’t this have the ability to customize the SOF Flip to go between flashing and steady orange light? Same thing where a couple of guys were complaining about the “slow fader speed”. Not sure if they realized that that was also programmable as well, between Slow, Medium, and Fast. Anyways, great review! My church got one to replace our x32 and i love this thing. Don’t know why people hate the “inputs are sources”. I thought DiGiCo and SSL did that stuff

@AWTechTuesday
@AWTechTuesday 4 года назад
KOKE MAN I haven’t done a side-by-side comparison with the X32 in real time but I will say that we replaced an M32 with the Wing in a room that has always sounded good but the first time we played a live drum kit through the Wing in there, it felt like it was just another level. Maybe it was just my ears had relaxed or some tricks I’ve learned along the way since when we set up the M32. Maybe it’s the enhanced DSP available on the Wing, but it sounded pretty spectacular for a first mix. I was really happy with it :)

If you expand the channel count by routing multiple sources to a stereo input, can you control the monitor sends and volume independently? Or is designed to let you double a source without burning a fader?
@AWTechTuesday
@AWTechTuesday 4 года назад
Hey Andy! There’s a balance control but no, that’s not really what it’s made for. Practical example - we are using 6 stereo channels - overheads, keys 1, keys 2, tracks, aux, and video. That’s 12 inputs but only 6 channels. I therefore have 6 extra channels available that can also be mono or stereo. I also left a blank channel after Keys 2 so, if we don’t need stereo but would rather have a second instrument, we can break up those inputs across 2 mono channels instead of 1 stereo. -Chad

We just picked up a Wing recently. We've got the basics up and running however we are working on our broadcast mix. I noticed in the video that that the label is BCAST-TB. We are trying to figure out the best way to send broadcast audio out to our PTZ camera. In our setup for streaming we run the audio into the camera so we don't have to worry about syncing later.Right now I'm running audio out of Aux8 on the Wing and straight into the camera. On our recording in OBS there is a hiss that can be heard - the louder the volume, the louder the hiss. I'm wondering how you have your Wing set up for broadcasting and do you send the audio to another mixer for the broadcast.

Made In Machines The low number of I/O on the actual desk isn’t that crazy. Most installs I’m involved with these days include a digital snake on stage anyway. Usually, if anything other than a talkback is being plugged in at the mixer, it’s maybe a rack of wireless mics. If that’s the case, Behringer has a nice range of small digital snakes that can be plugged in at FOH for just such purpose. The effects are great. The DSP processing is a major step up compared to the X32. Really impressed with the console overall. The biggest initial issue I had was with the screen randomly clicking things. Turns out that there’s an early run of mixers with that issue. We caught it early and our distributor swapped us out a new one. All good now :) -Chad

@@AWTechTuesday Should be safe to buy one now with no screen issues now. Do you get any noticeably latency that needs compensation when using the inbuilt premium effects or when using analog outboard effects? Does it auto compensate? I think this mixer could be great for my home studio but it also seems extremely complex - maybe too much. Do you know how the effects compare to A&H SQ or Yamaha / Soundcraft? Thanks Chad
@AWTechTuesday
@AWTechTuesday 4 года назад
Made In Machines This mixer is great for live use. I think I would go a different direction for studio. I’d rather have these EQ and compressor options in a DAW rather than on my console. Otherwise, they’re useful for monitor mixes but not so much for mixing and mastering unless you want to go old school and bounce down in real time. If you want a desk with local I/O, nice pre-amps, and a mix engine for monitor mixes, I’d probably look at something like an M32. Pair that with a powerful computer with some Waves plugins and you’ll be in a good spot :)

@AWTechTuesday
@AWTechTuesday 4 года назад
David Meek Hey David! We are using Waves plugins on the Broadcast console by using the built in USB Card. I’m not super concerned with latency at that position since the end user is getting a delay on everything anyway. With that in mind, I’m running a very high buffer setting so as to not overwork the computer we’re running there. If you want to do the same at FOH, if you get a powerful enough computer and are careful about which plugins you use, it can be done. HMMM... seems you just want to hate on the board. True usable channel count is actually closer to 96. The 8 channels that you don't have the limiter etc, would be what you would use for music feeds that you control, like the internal USB player and maybe a spotify or youtube feed where you don't need as much control. No ghost clicks on my unit and no ghost fader movements or on the video either. with 96 channels. The faders feel perfectly fine, certainly not bad. I have no issues with copy paste functionality or the library. BTW M32 costs $5,000... Wing costs $3,500. Check out the reviews after the v1.7 has been installed.
