I don't know how many threads on the net I have read so far which are testament to the fact how very confused people (myself absolutely included, mind you) are about how this thing with USB/2-TR input/output inclusion/exclusion really works. I must have read the according sections of the manuals to my X1204USB, Q802USB and Q502USB about 10 times each before I finally (with some experimentation) got to the point where things came together for me; and still I have to look up my notes, whenever I haven't done multi-tracking with them in a while. Your video on the other hand makes it all very easy to understand (I am really surprised that there are only ~725 views.) Anyway, many thanks for taking the time not only to show how it's done, but also for doing it with very clear diagrams. Big thumbs up.
Thanks for the feedback. My video demonstration of the audio routing is much more popular ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9w9ovvHmlEc.html
Hi there - I just read your comment that you have been able to complete the USB/2-TR input/output inclusion/exclusion with Xeynx1204 USB mixer. I see two red buttons (2-TR/USB and 2-TR/USB to Main) and 2 black buttons (Alt 3-4 and Main Mix) and 1 knob (for Phones/Ctrl Room). How do I need to use these buttons along with RCA loop cable to accomplish the following - record only microphone audio in computer via usb while playing music/karaoke track on computer and be able to hear the music/vocal together with no latency in headphones
Ok, lol. I was a film major, so I have audio knowledge in the most basic, just-more-than-an-enthusiast type of level. I’ve been looking for an answer to this question FOR MONTHS. Every video or tutorial was either so basic it didn’t cover what I needed to know, or so complicated I’d need to own a record label to understand. This answered my questions! THANK YOU!
Thank you for this! It's simpler than some other "explanations" I've been looking at. And I like the trick with the RCA jacks. You have almost 250,000 views -- for a video that explains a _really_ obscure and complex problem.
Wow, I had no idea!!! Up until now, I just used one side of my headphones, so that I could hear the music coming from the headphones on one ear and hear my voice with my other ear because, even after installing the ASIO driver, the latency was so big that it was just impossible to hear myself on my headphones. I just tried to connect the RCA Left & Right outputs to the inputs and...magic!!! It works! So glad I saw this video! Thank you for making it and sharing this!!!
I tried this yesterday, it works great ....happy to be getting the most from this little unit. Actually very simple... 1 set of jumpers and two buttons ... and all is good. Thanks for this great post
This trick gave me a huge improvement to may streamings and recordings. Normally I don't listen the audio from mic, and can't dose my voice into the streaming. Now I can listem my voice with my game and record only the mic. Exactly the way I wanted. Thank You in very much.
Perfect! Was having this problem today with my QX1002USB using with Zoom app and this video was spot-on, using the patch cord fixed it! Well done video with great illustrations as well. Thank You Thank You Thank You!!!
So what audio input did you use for Zoom? USB? I'm trying to set this up for my father to do church services. Of course, I am not present to work on this, because of the COVID quarantine
@@christopherballard2893 Yes, I used the USB interface. It was literally plug and play, no drivers required and everything worked (Windows). Then in Zoom you can select your video and audio sources. Good luck....
Great! Audio for dummies, ie: me. I wont be using to record, but just for gaming/streaming/podcast possibly. Audio can be so confusing. What drivers are you using with the Q802?
The Best answer to the question. Another solution is mini mixer for the laptop out (ourr recorder) and the mixer out, just in case we need all inputs of the mixer. But this solution is the best. Thanks.
I need help to use it with a ps4, xlr mic and a pc. The question is, will i be able to: [while using headphones and mic] talk to game chat in ps4 sending ONLY the audio from my mic, while listening the audio from ps4 AND pc via headphones? also will i be able to adjust the volume of the audio coming from the ps4 and pc? [while using speakers, no mic] hearing audio from ps4 OR pc at will from my 2.1 sound system? If you can tell me the right configuration it would be awesome :)
I have a question concerning the Qenyx 802 (without USB). Maybe You can help me with that: how do I feed music I want to play along with in the mixer, so that this music DOS NOT get recorded? I only want the guitars recorded. Is that possible?
I've been very frustrated with this latency issue. Can't wait to hook my mixer up once more to give it a go. If this works you'll definately be in my late night prayers -:)
Thank you for the explanation. If you could confirm that the RCA patch lead physically connects/bridges the IN RCA to the OUT RCA on the mixer. L IN to L OUT and R IN to R OUT. Thank you.
Thanks for this excellent explanatory video. I think one key piece of information is missing - How do you connect the RCA loop lead? From what you have shown, I'm guessing you just plug both L and R RCA channels to connect the Output to the Input sockets, which creates an analog feedback loop that only goes to the headphone monitors. Correct?
Hello my friend What is the correct way to connect three devices, for example, an ecolizer, a crossover, and a compressor, provided that they are connected to the last in the mixer
Hi, this is excellent. I hv just bought a Behringer 302USB as I wish to Karaoke live stream on FB live. My set up will be mic (for vocals) through the main Mic port, and tracks input from an iPhone on to LINE RCA ports. Can you briefly tell me the audio routing options from the Behringer 302USB (or 502 USB) to a laptop, for live streaming, such that I can hear the mixed output on my Monitoring headphones as well? Thanks !
Hey man thanks for the video. In stead of doing the rca to rca in and output. Can I route another instrument or piece of hardware , etc. to rca in and then rca it out to another speaker or sampler or whatever. Like to have a separate out ? If you could let me know it would be appreciated. Thanks
Thank's for the informative video, but I am not sure if I fully understand. So you basically put a stereo chinch audiocable in the 2-Track In and Out, To Phones Down, To Main Mix Up, and then you hear computer audio plus latence free mic on your headphones, without re-recording the computeraudio in the Track. And all that doesn't damage the Mixer? Is that right? It's so confusing...
How would I hook up/need additionally to make three usb rode podcaster USB microphones work and which of the two mixers do you prefer for a first time podcaster...?
If you are using USB mics, then you cannot really use a mixer, as the USB mic plugs to the PC USB port directly. You can use ASIO4ALL to combine multiple USB Mics into your recording software, but you may have some issues. If you need 3 Mics but simple stereo main audio to your recording software, then 3 dynamic or condenser Mics into any 3 Mic channel USB mixer should do. Hope this helps
Each channel on in your DAW will have a "Listen" or "Monitor" option button that allows you to listen to the live audio input into the channel as well as the recorded track being played.
Sir this was informational. I would like to know once I begin on zenyx 502 please list the precautions before I start the device . Shud both phones and mix buttons be up and other precautions or provide a link here. Please
Hello and thank you for your nice video. I use to connect my Korg Krome keyboard into my Bose Compnaion 5 (2.1 system) Aux Input: the 2 1/4 jack keyboard output (for a stereo sound) are converted into a single 3.5mm jack that plugs into the Companion 5 Aux Input. I works nice. The Bose are already connected on my computer via USB connection. Now I would like to connect my DX7 synth (2 output 1/4 jack), my electric guitar (1 output 1/4 jack), and my Yamaha Piagero NPV80 2 keyboard (1 output 1/4 jack) to my Bose 2.1 speakers, the whole IN STEREO, via the entry jack 3.5 mm. Do I need to use a mixer (BEHRINGER XENYX QX1002USB), an audio interface (BEHRINGER UMC404HD), or both of them? Thank you in advance for your answers!
Question: If I hook up my USB mixer to my Ipad and use garageband or any DAW software to capture the incoming live performance sound/signal from mixer and then use Airplay to send the sound wirelessly out to a speaker and not necessarily for recording, but just strictly using the captured the sound from the mixer onto the Ipad so I can Airplay it to the speaker. Can I do this while having all speakers on loudly without worrying about any feedback? or Can I do this at all? Thank you.
Fantastic hack! Does this also work when using videoconferencing apps like Zoom? Also, if I patch it like you described, can I also connect Main Out to a DSLR mic input? My DSLR is connected via HDMI to a computer capture card, and I’m told that routing audio into the DSLR will embed audio/video into the HDMI and eliminates any audio sync/delay issues with the video. Also another question: why not connect a non-USB 502 via 1/4" to a separate USB interface like a Scarlett Solo, and monitor with headphones from the Scarlett? Wouldn’t that avoid the need to patch etc? Thank you for your time!
As to question 1, I can't answer, but for question 2, means you have to purchase another interface, might as well purchase the Behringer MA400 like in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_4_BKmIsIQQ.html
Thanks for your great video! very clear!!. I have the Xenyx 802 non USB version. Is the RCA loop lead will work? Can you help me how to do it? I'm really confused.
when I connect my microphone thorugh XLR input and my guitar through the other input, it doesn't pick up my guitar? How will i be able to pick up both the mic and guitar at the same time?
@@RecordingStudio9 I didnt plug both my mic and guitar into input 1. I tried plugging my guitar into all other inputs and it didn't work, I routed my guitar into an amp and then into the mixer too and that didn't work. I have an external drum machine and piano that I can't hear when plugged into the mixer as well. The only thing that works on the mixer is my condensor microphone??
Possibly faulty mixer? If you can hear the mic, then you should hear the other channels too on headphones or main mix speakers. PS, if listening on headphones, make sure Main Mix volume is also up.
I didn’t catch your explanations, I just bought a mic a condenser one, AKG P120 and I am trying to hear something from this mic without success, I have tried all possible options, no way. I was able to record with a cheap dinamic mic and the sound was acceptable. How can I fix this? I got this mixer for abour 6 years and a preamp as well
can i use this mixer in conjunction with the behringer uporia 1820 and also the behringer ada expansion to obtain even more inputs to my daw, using this mixer as an additional interface to have all my gear connected to the system while choosing between the inputs of the three interfaces for recording while using the uphoria as the playback device?
Great Video Sir!, I'm just having confusion with the loop lead. Where do I insert the RCA? Do you mean I have to insert the red and white to the in, then the other end will be in the out? I hope you can answer this. Thank you
What is the minimum hardware required to make a home karaoke studio with karaoke track from laptop and vocal from mic making a track in DAW vocal+karaoke track. Also both audible in headphone. Please suggest can we create:- using a laptop+ a earphone to be plugged in laptop + a mixer + a DAW=music track of vocal & karaoke track recorded in DAW.
You need to connect your headphone on the mixer and not laptop to listen, while playing karaoke track and singing to the Mic connected to the Mixer. Watch my other video for actual demo.
I did not understand the part of the trick completely, sorry for my bad english haha. Where does the rca wire is connected? Is it to the headphones or to the laptop?
Thanks for the great videos. Unfortunately, I still can't hear the computer audio in my phones (although I pressed the "to phone " button down. (Actually, I tried ALL combinations and I still can't hear the computer audio through the phones). Do I need to change the Logic Pro X audio out settings? Do I need to do that for each channel?
Thanks for responding. I think the issue in my case is that I'm using Caldigit USB-Pro Dock where I plugin the Behringer Q502USB (with the microphone) and a LinnStrument. The "audio" menu identifies the dock but not the different devices (behringer and LinnStrument) connected to it. I don't know what name would the menu use for the Behringer if I connect it directly. I'll try that tomorrow. Again, thanks.
Hi. Congratulations, the video is very interesting, but being Italian I didn't understand much, and I can't follow you from the figures. I have a beringher 1204 usb fx, connected to my desktop PC via usb cable. my inputs in the mixer are: microphone via cannon cable and stereo input connected to the pc output for music and backing tracks. finally headphones connected to the headphone output of the mixer. One question please: why am I not hearing the properly selected reverb effect on headphones? (if I remove the headphones it is heard regularly through speakers). I tried activating and deactivating the various keys, but nothing. I am desperate. I need it to sing by connecting the mobile phone to the mixer. If you can kindly help me, I would be grateful to you
Your presentation and overall description is excellent. I have one question, while listening from headphones and control room can it give echo affect ? Does it have equaliser ?
Hope you can answer my question. If I use phantom power on the Q502usb I get 60cycle Humm into my earphones. This happens with headphone output jack and line out jack if headphone is plugged in to either output.
I am thinking of getting the xnyx q802 usb. I have been using Audacity for voice over and music editing since long. Want to know will the q802 USB be compatible with audacity. I mean, once I connect the xlr input of a condenser mic, will I be able to hear my voice through the headphone while it records the same in audacity. And want to also know if there would be any latency issue? Thanx!
Hi great review! I have scarlett solo audio interface. I just wanna know how can I connect it in this mixer? I wanna buy this but wanna know first if it can connect to my interface. What process and adapter should I use? Thanks! :)
Hi RecordingStudio9.com, thanks for the nice video. Do you know if it is possible to use this mixer without connecting it to a computer, but simply having as output two speakers?
I'm trying to build a karaoke system with main audio coming from a PC/laptop (Karaoke software) and being played over the HiFi system and the vocals being played onto a set of PA speakers in order not to destroy the HiFi speakers. Would I be able to set this up with a mixer like the Q502 USB?
I am new to audio mixing and recording, and recently got Q802USB mixer. I was having the same problem of not being able to simultaneously listen to mic input and from the macbook. Can you please explain how to use the RCA patch loop leads?? Thanks.
Hi there, thanks for the detailed review, I'm using the 802 USB version and i'm having a doubt of how to make my monitors silent while listening through the headphones. The question seems to be simple though but i've been struggling with it quite a while. If you got some idea about it, would you mind helping?
I made it simple - my phones are connected into the speakers. As you know, speakers mute when phones are plug in. And of course, the speakers itself is connected to the Phones output of Behringer. So, just plug in and out your phones in/from speakers depending on if you want to listen over phones or monitors respectively
Good effort by the way, The monitors which i meant is loudspeaker based monitors which would be quite far from me like around 10 ft. I must remove the main mix connections where its connected to the monitors. That's the only way.
Hi and thanks for posting interesting instructions. Provided that I am interested in xenyx 802, what is not clear though is how many sources I can connect at the same time. My need is to play guitar and bass (hopefully drum too) on a recorded sound track. So I need a stereo input and at least 2 or 3 additional inputs for instruments. Mics have their own channels, but I do not know whether can be used for instruments. Many thanks for supporting me :-)
Might want to watch this video too. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JBPOIxTs4FE.html Remember, the Mic inputs do not work well with guitars directly plugged into them. 802 may not be enough channels for what you need. Look for 1002USB.
Thank you for making this video and watching this have saved me from a headache. I understand the layouts but is it possible to switch the mic for something else on a different input? I know you can only record 1 track at the time with 1 instrument but want to know if this will work if i hook up my pocket operator in the line inputs.
A good tutorial on routing of audio signals with useful diagrams. The zero latency trick is pretty awesome! However it is mentioned that keeping the "USB/2-Track" to "Main Mix" button down (accidentally) would cause feedback and possible damage the unit. The manual says that when this button is down, the signal to the "2-track out" (as well as the audio going to the USB from the mixer) would be cut off. Which means there is a built in protection against feedback in case the said button is down. However this raises another question. How would the overdubbed recording scenario work if the audio signal going to the USB (from the mixer) is cut off when the said button is down?
Hey I am planning to buy a Behringer Q802 USB mixer. Is this will work in q802 also? I am buying it mainly to record vocals mainly and at the same time listen to playback too. Like the music is playing and the I and the singer is able to listen to it while recording. Is it possible?

Hi i have a question, main mix is already up and to headphones is down, but microphone still routes to main out. the mic feedbacks to my speakers. any help?
Do they have a User Manual for this? I didn't get one with the unit. Maybe Behringer has them on their website, (I'll check). Thanks for the video! Rich
Great video... the last option is what I want to accomplish with my behringer xenyx1204 USB mixer.... I want to hear my voice when singing while recording it at the same time in a sea parade track in adobe audition DAW or audacity DAW...with the karaoke track playing on track 1... I got all lost when you mentioned RCA lead loop...what is it exactly and how do I use it with my x1204usb mixer
Thank you mate... I have Xenyx1204 USB Mixer...I dont have a button for phones but there is a knob that reads "Phones/Ctrl Room"... In the "Source" section, I have three buttons - first one is a red colored button "2-TR/USB", second one is a black colored button "ALT 3-4" and third one is also a black colored button "MAIN MIX"... I can see that all these three buttons within "Source" box have an arrow pointing towards the "Phones/Ctrl Room" knob. There is another red colored button named "2-TR/USB to MAIN" outside the "Source" section and just above the "Phones/Ctrl Room" knob... I saw your video explaining RCA lead workaround but now I am trying to figure out how can I do the same in Xenyx1204 USB considering that there is no button for Phones (there is a knob now) and there seems to be may more buttons (2 red & 2 black) compared to Q502USB mixer - which buttons do I need to press down or keep them as is (in up position). Really loved your video and its a great trick (RCA workaround), hope you can help me with how I can do the same in my mixer. There is a picture of what I just mentioned above in this site - musicgroup-prod.mindtouch.us/04_BEHRINGER/XENYX-_Why_Doesn't_My_USB_Mixer_Record_And_Playback_Through_USB%3F
If I use the panning method on my Q502USB when I sing and play guitar together, could I separate it on DAW? For example: I pan my mic on channel 1 to left. And pan my guitar on channel 2/3 to right. And when I sing and play guitar together, what will I hear o the speaker/headphone, will my voice only on left speaker/headphone and my guitar on right speaker/headphone?
Please provide me with the hook up diagram for Q502usb UCA202 interface and Yamaha psre 443 model keyboard to play kareoke songs. Please also tell me whether a pair of speakers are required or not. Thanks
Thanks. This video might give you more details. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9w9ovvHmlEc.html And this one, a better overview. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JBPOIxTs4FE.html
Can you please explain what means "recording track in Listen mode" and "Listen mode off". Is this a software feature you are using? Which software has this feature?
Yes, this is a recording software feature. Most DAW have this option as part of their mixing console view or on the track timeline. This allows the software to send the audio back to the USB Audio interface (with some delay called latency). This video might help you ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9w9ovvHmlEc.html
