The birthing classes helped saved my sister's life. My mum brought her home, she was born premmie, and not long after during a feed she flat out stopped breathing. Dad was able to give her CPR, keeping her alive, until the ambulance arrived and they got her to hospital safely (: Dad is so greatful he went to those classes so he was all brushed up on giving CPR to infants. Definately worth it whether you think you'll need it or not!

When my wife and I found out we were pregnant I remember being so excited. I wanted to learn everything there is to know about being a dad. I was dissapointed to find out that there just wasn't much material, literature, or videos about being a new dad. And I asked my wife especially about books, why does every book address the mom and not both the mom and dad, even when it isn't about something specific to the mom? I was just stunned and was wondering if I was doing something wrong. I heard that, while acknowledging all the great fathers in our lives and in the past, most dads were very distant and aloof during the whole ordeal and felt their role was not in the nurture and care for their baby. I want that to change. The very fact that dads can experience post-partum depression proves that dads can be just as emotionally and practically invested in their child's lives as their mother. Thank you for making this video.

I honestly think that it’s just because dad’s usually aren’t into making this sort of content, but I know that many women do and they talk about it and I think that’s why isn’t all that much content from the male perspective, but who knows.

Dads can be overwhelmed, tired or depressed, but they absolutely cannot experience post-partum depression discounts all the hardship that women go through. I do appreciate men's perspective and I am grateful for the candor, but it's absolutely not the same as being hormonal, physically broken AND overwhelmed and tired as a cherry on top of it.

Im seeing so many heart broken mamas who can’t have their partners in the appointments with them :( I’m hoping this helps ease some anxiety. My husband drives me to all of my appointments and waits in the car. Knowing that he’s near by and knowing he’ll be there as soon as I come out is comforting considering he can’t come in. What I do is record/FaceTime him to share experiences together (even if we’re sharing the experience a few minutes after leaving the appointment) it helps him feel included and it helps me feel connected.

I’m the one carrying this new being and going through all the changes but my partner can’t feel any of that and so being in the room with me, watching the scan, seeing what’s going on inside me I felt was SO IMPORTANT.. so... yeh..kind of broke my heart.. I asked if I could film it for him and they said no!! So that made me even more sad! I love in the UK so maybe in America things are different? But yeh...it sucked...

My wife and I went to her first appointment. I did a lot of research. I was told that I am not allowed to see the doctor. That definitely hurt me, so I became upset and didn’t even want to do FaceTime (I was an entitled baby). I was told I would not be able to meet the doc until the delivery. I was now upset that I wouldn’t be able to get a sense if my wife was in good hands. I’m not usually soft, but I went home and teared. Prayed God and realized I had to be strong for wifey. She had an appointment 2 days later and sent me the ultrasound. That changed my perspective big time. The first trimester is tough on dads too. I need to learn how to be more supportive, bcuz she definitely deserves to have a great first pregnancy. COVID19 sucks! But I’M GOING TO BE A DADDY! God willing of course 🙏🏿

Thank you so much for what you said about those initial feelings! I once heard it said that "Women become Mothers when they find out they are pregnant. Men become Fathers when the baby is born" (Of course, this doesn't account for all family dynamics, same sex, single parents etc) I think more men need to be reminded that mom has been with baby 24/7 for 9 months. You JUST met the little one. It takes time, and that's totally okay!

This!! 🙌🏽 I had my first baby 5 weeks ago. As soon as she was out and put on my chest I burst into tears. I was immediately overwhelmed with emotion over her. But when I looked up at him, he just looked kind of empty. Scared maybe? Somber? I was really disheartened that he didn’t react big, like me. But it was just him processing. It’s different for dads. Now he couldn’t be crazier about her. Just took time.

I’d like to say that for some mothers they also don’t have that amazing undying connection with their child either. I know that sounds horrible but I didn’t really feel a connection to my daughter until a little while after she was born. Like I actually had to get to know her and form a connection with her in person. Never felt it when I was pregnant or when she first came out. I definitely have a very strong bond with her now!

This is actually A Thing for many parents, so much so that there’s a whole area of study devoted to it. In the words of one of my psych profs, “parenting, especially good parenting, isn’t some natural born instinct, it’s a skill and bond that’s cultivated over time.” As humans we have some instincts that help us out, but a lot of it is learned

Hey, Thanks for this video. I think this video is helpful for women too. I was relatively relaxed, like it sounds like your wife is :), but my husband would get very upset whenever the baby cried. @@mrsglitter8373 hey 😊 I feel I bonded quite quickly with the baby, I loved her instantly like I hoped I would, I didn't like to touch my girlfriends stomach whilst she was pregnant as It creeped me out Haha, so I think my girlfriend was a bit worried about how I would feel, but like i said i loved her instantly, she is like my little best friend now. But the anxiety and depression I felt for the first month was the worst thing I've ever gone through without a doubt, I believe it was brought on by the sleep deprivation, I always knew that it would get better though, even in the most difficult times. I will forever have a new, enormous respect for mothers, a lot of men who don't have children believe that the man has it the hardest as they have to go to work during the day and believe they deserve rest when they get home, due to lockdown I was at home for the first 4 months of my daughters life and I can guarantee right now that parenthood is the hardest job in the world.

I totally understand you on not feeling that obscene amount of euphoria when they give you time with your spouse and your newborn immediately after their birth. It was the craziest, almost saddest moment for me. Always expected that and I was disappointed in myself. But you're so right, he is the light of my life and I love him so much. That little disappointment means nothing now.

This video is so so important. I’m watching this now as my boyfriend is asleep and I know I need to show him when he wakes up. Being a part of this process for the father is just as important - we both are still working but he works more days than me with very long hours and I just got over that hump of throwing up all day, every day. He’s barely slept because of it since he jumps out of bed as soon as he hears me and he won’t go back to sleep until he knows I’m okay. We’re learning that just because the baby isn’t here yet, it’s still a lot of hard work. 💕

I absolutely love that you did a whole Bible study with your family, and opened up about how the new baby was affecting you. It's really important for new dads, and all men for that matter, to really communicate when new changes are causing mental changes. And it's great that everyone in your family Bible study was there for you in that moment. A support system is hard for some people to establish. Congratulations on your new baby!

New 1st time dad; my son is a little over two weeks old. Thank you for sharing this. The lack of sleep and exhausted has been challenging like nothing before. My wife had a c-section and it required me to really step up and take on almost all care for the first few days / first week as she was in significant pain during recovery. Thank you for the reminder that we’re not alone.

These are great notes, bro! I, too, had a lot of anxiety as I have Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. I struggled with fears of not being able to support my Wife & Son in the ways that I had always imagined. It took me a sec to dig myself out of that hole. I didn't feel connected early on either. Now, things are awesome and I can't imagine life without him! He is 8 months and growing rapidly. This is a go-to vid for new Dads! Thanks.

This was absolutely AMAZING! Often times because so much attention is focused on mom and baby, the attention on dad is an after thought. Yes, mom and child are critical however dad is critical as well. Thank you for being an avenue to open our eyes a bit more and aid us in understanding the fathers perspective and what you guys go through. I valued every part of this video and will be saving it for my husband to look at when we decide to create our own little bundle of joy ❤ God bless you and your family and all the other wonderful dads out here 🤗

This was so informative for me to get an idea of how it feels for the dad because they don't usually mention their feelings and we tend to assume they feel the same way we do when the baby arrives. Tips on helping mom is so awesome because it is super exhausting and I know we also can be selfish and overexpectant of the dad disregarding their experience so thank you for this.
