My personnal philosophy is thay if you are not satisfied by the little things life brings to you, you will never trully be satisfied when big things come...even when you finally own your house, private jet, tesla model x, or whatever, you will still find something negative to complain about...so (may be) the solution is to celebrate little things as if they were the ultimate treasure we received in the universe...
New subscriber here. I was recently reminded of the full saying about being a jack (or Jill) of all trades - “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes is better than a master of one.” I guess the idea is that having many interests can make for a more fulfilling life than being super devoted to just one thing. And I don’t think you’re mediocre at all. You are really good at having a lot of interests!
Love your spirit! I also have way too many hobbies and topics I love to learn about. The common career advice “follow your passion” was always anxiety inducing for me because I could never decide on one or two to focus on entirely. Choosing one felt like saying no to so many others and I was worried I would make the wrong choice. I spent most of my 20’s exploring all of my hobbies and interests in my free time and have finally started to nail down the few I enjoy most, or the ones that suit my personality best. I also don’t aim to be exceptional at these hobbies. The joy is in the pursuit of learning and improving slowly over time. My only competitor is my self.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It makes me feel so much better because I felt exactly the same way when it comes to career advice. I mean, follow your passion is great. But what if you have many passions?! And I love your last statement: “ My only competitor is myself”.
Yeah, I recognize you! So cool to see you here Abbie. The pilot channel is no more, I've stopped flying for now. This is a new direction in life for me, scary but fun!
after watching several of your videos I am coming back to this one to let you know this is the video that popped up in my feed that i initially clicked on that led me to your channel, and now ive watched a bunch and am subscribed. The thumbnail caught my attention because I have been watching a lot of stuff on running lately, and the thumbnail also had a quirky funny vibe and made me smile. just wanted to share in case you dont feel like looking at your analytics lol!
Thumbnail design, that's really the hardest part for me. I'm so happy to hear that this thumbnail resonated with you. Thank you so much for your support!
I think if a person tracks their performances , then we can feel mediocre at times... "I am ok being the jack of all trades and the master of none." Keep up the good work. I like and look forward to your videos are they are not mediocre at all. Good luck in your marathon...
Thank you Micheal! The run is next week already, can't believe that it's coming up so quick already. I'm super excited!! And thank you for your continued support 😊
I'm so glad I found you, as a fellow person who enjoys doing lots of things and is mediocre at all of them. Thank you for sharing! I subscribed to hear more. 😄
I like your no stress positive approach. I think that taking pressure off of ourselves does allow us to enjoy more things. Thank you for this reminder.
part of the joys or struggles with life is knowing when to hold em and when to fold em because there are (unless you're independently wealthy) only so many resources and time. I'm having to give up youtube for now because as much as I like the idea of making videos and taking some control of my video production business, it wouldn't be paying the bills for possibly quite some time, and I have no one else to support me so I have to focus my attention on looking for a full-time job. I don't think people realize how much time content creation takes. You're doing great and hope you find joy in whatever you do!
Tonya, I'm picking up what you're putting down. I gave myself 2 years to go all in on this channel and to figure stuff out. but I'm also feeling the pressure of needing to make money again. 10 months have already passed and nothing coming in. (It is my husband and I so it's a completely different situation tan you are in) Thank you for the encouragement and I hope that in the future you can come back to creating on RU-vid when the time is right for you
Your shots are gorgeous and the execution of them flows right into the next. some of success, if going viral that, is luck. Keep enjoying your hobbies. Greatness comes from repetition. The content here is right on par with any million sub channel. Great audio. Great editing. Good flow of what the video is even about.
Love your personality and your take on this. Nothing wrong with mediocrity. We cannot be brilliant at everything. Sometimes good is enough or fun is enough or contentment or joy or anything which makes it feel worthwhile. Subbed.
Even for those of us who want to be exceptional - the road to being exceptional is consistent practice and being okay with being mediocre for a long while before you can get to the exceptional part. Really enjoyed your energy in this video, hope you'll get more subscribers :)
Great video and philosophy! Experimenting with different things that you're curious about, even if you are bad at them, sure beats people who say they will do this or that but never do anything. That is what I consider mediocre. Good luck with your projects and interests.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I agree, at least try what you say you want to do. Even if it turns out it's not for you, or if it turns out to just be fun and not exceptional.
I remember when a runner named Kofuzi had 10 subscribers (he lives in the building I lived in when I lived in Chicago. I just checked his channel now and he has 190,000 subscribers. I believe he started his channel 3 years ago. Just know. You’ll get there. I put you and Itz Sky in the same place (I’ve seen you comment on his channel). You both are amazing creators, and you will be where Kofuzi is very soon God bless. 😊
I follow both Kofuzi and Itz Sky (but you already knew that) Kofuzi's running journey as well his journey on RU-vid are an incredibly impressive and just such an amazing inspiration. And for Itz SKY, he just has such fun energy and I love seeing an American living in my home country as I'm a Dutchie living in America, so fun. Thank you so much for the encouragement, for watching and your thoughtful comment!
@@LucindaLives OMG I knew you were a runner, but I did not know that you followed kofuzi!! I used to watch him and I would see he and his daughters on the bus a lot and I recognize his face and that’s what made me mention him because he had very few subscribers back then!
Good vid another thing about what are known as "hobbies" or interests can lead to a full life. People who focus too much on "working" and "making money" can get to a point for instance when they have to retire having no idea what to do with their life. Because it can take time but good to develop along the way.
One of the biggest problems for me over the years started when I decided to turn my favourite hobby - making clothes - into a small business. Now I had put a price on the things I enjoyed doing aside from working. And since then I always find myself thinking about how I can monetise everything else I do including all of my time. And I think that's why I decided to start a RU-vid channel. I decided that I could to put a price on my very average day to day life. And now I record my hikes as well and I add them to my channel so now I have managed to put a price on the last great escapism I thought I had - walking in nature! I am not particularly good at anything I do. I am definitely mediocre, but I monetised it and I'm not entirely sure how I feel about that. :D
Hey Claudia, I'm not sure if I would try and monetize all of everyday life. For me, I make a dedicated list of things that I want to shoot and do that first. then I put all the camera gear away and enjoy the hike/run/sitting doing nothing, without having to be worried about filming it. I'd say, keep some of those nature walks, hikes, to yourself so you have that escape. On the other hand, isn't it wonderful that you were able to monetize it all tho? Yup, I see the conundrum 😂
@@LucindaLives It's been a great opportunity that's for sure. I find it very hard to just stop and do nothing. Even when I think I have finished work for the day, I am up and down like a yo yo all evening doing this and that. I just find it incredibly hard to switch off. I have always been a do'er. :/
What a great video!! I have now a question... What do you call mediocre running? (what's your pace). Because I think with all these new running influencers people underestimate themselves
My happy pace now is a 10:30 minute mile and threshold is 9:45 minute per mile. It’s a bit of a contrast with what I was able to do before my burnout which was a happy pace of 9 minute mile and threshold of about 8:15 minute mile. I never was really fast. I am working on low HR training now, hoping to improve my mile pace.
Growing up in a developing country with highly family-centric values, I often see people here scoffing at people like us with multiple interests. They think we are selfish, wasting money and resources when we could be using them to help our family and community. But multiple passions, for me, are like my oxygen. They help me to breathe life into my hectic schedule that has been relagated mostly for other people - for my boss, my family, and my obligations.
The billionaires are happier the smartest people are happier, the best athletes are happier, the best looking people are happier, and we normal and average people are well less happy, right? OK! For me seeing clouds, oceans, mountains, valleys, seeing my great grand daughters develop, seeing people smile, saying hi to neighbors, going on a hike, or bike ride or a drive all make me glad to be alive. Heaven is right here and I am truly lucky to be able to understand that! Unlike Sheldon Cooper, I understand!
RU-vid takes time time to get subs and views, Ive helped my friend with his channel, and even with ads it has taken years to get over 4k subs. your content is varied and engaging, enjoying to watch, keep going.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you watching. p.s. I just got a cage and a top handle for my camera. Moving up in the world lol. I was wondering, I noticed in your last video that you don't rock a field monitor or external monitor on your camera. do you feel like you miss that? I'm debating if it's worth getting one. They ain't cheap
@@LucindaLives It's up to you, I don't use them because I feel anything that's big like gimbals slow me down, but I regret it when some of my shots are not completely in focus so I might start using them for that and for framing. 😁
Yeah, I’ve had the same issue a few times that it wasn’t in focus. For now I’ll just use my phone as a monitor tho. Need to start making first before I spend more
Ma'am 70% is pretty dang good in my books! That means you're succeeding more often than you fail at the things you're trying! Also our culture glorifies 'success' and only seems to acknowledge 'failures' when they can be found in the wake of a big success.
