Still listening but I’m a little confused. This was filmed before they started this current show of legally blonde right? So they are discussing a past show? Also they’re talking like there has been drama or some people saying that P didn’t deserve the lead or something but like I’m unaware of any drama. Am I just out of the loop???

Growing up I was very shy and quiet, and along with that came being labeled as a “good kid”. I was seen as mature and well behaved, so much so that my friends’ moms would call my mom and ask if I could come over because I was such a good influence on their kids. I internalized this so intensely for so many years and then felt like anytime I made a mistake it was SUCH a huge deal to everyone. I ended up with some serious anger issues because of how much I would internalize when I was younger and feel like I could never let anything out. I’m a parent now and I try hard to be aware of the labels I use for my own daughter and it is really hard not to put your kid into boxes.

I was always called “too nice”. And as I’ve gotten older yes I’ve gotten better about standing up for myself in certain situations and not being taken advantage of (a lot of this growth comes from working with the public, lol), but like, what do you want me to be….mean??? I just treat others as I would like to be treated! Labels are incredibly stupid.

Labels suck. Especially when teachers gossip with each other about students. It doesn't give kids a chance. I was labeled stupid and disruptive. A teacher told me I wasn't smart enough for a career and should just be a mom. It made me want to prove the haters wrong. It still triggers me to this day.

My husband is going to be a teacher, currently he is a sub and he's heard some DISGUSTING comments from teachers talking about their students. He doesn't sub at this one school at all because there's this one guy that was bitching about a female senior asking for a recommendation for the college she wanted to go to. He says, what's the point of me giving her a recommendation when all she is going to be is a trophy wife? I can not tell you how enraged I was hearing that. I wish I could have turned what happened with me into success but I just fell into a deep depression and still struggling today lol. SO proud of you though

With labels in school, at least for me.. there was some racism in it as well sometimes. Being black and in the south my schools were predominantly white. For a talkative black kid we were “loud and disruptive” talkative white kids were “future lawyers and politicians.” Picking up on that at a young age was so disappointing. I got that label when I was in elementary and it shifted to being quiet and shy. And still dealing with letting this idea go.. I can talk and voice my thoughts and opinions too.

I was always labeled “mature” growing up… looking back at it now, I see how weird it was for grown adults (men especially) to tell me that I didn’t look my age or I could pass for 18, not just in looks but the way I acted. Now at 24 I feel like I’m 30 because at 12 I was told I acted like I was 18 so I feel like I completely skipped years of my childhood and young adult life all because I was labeled “mature.”

My 3rd daughter is 13 and in the 7th grade. She is doing good in school except in reading and English. Her teacher has emailed me multiple times and said if she continues to catch my daughter drawing in class she was going to be talking to the principal. My daughter has severe ADHD and STRUGGLES in reading cause she doesn't see eye to eye with her teacher and her teacher isn't doing anything to try and understand my child and her learning disabilities. She just yells and punishes. Its gotten so bad between that and bullying that I am pulling my child out of school next year and homeschooling her. It breaks my heart to have to do but my child needs encouragement not to be screamed at and bullied EVERY DAY. Its beyond ridiculous. Some teachers need to realize not all kids learn the same and sometimes you need to teach in a manner that everyone can learn to. Some teachers are awesome and for the most part her teachers are but this one English teacher is making my child feel worthless and "lazy" because she's struggling in a boring class. And in her teachers words "not meeting her potential" no matter how hard she tries.
@seleana3929
@seleana3929 2 месяца назад
I went through this with my oldest son. He also has ADHD and had a English teacher doing the same and told other teachers he was a problem. I live in a different country than the US and we have these exams she refused to sign him up for saying he could never pass them. Well I took him out of school for a year and home schooled him. He took the tests and passed with out a problem. He wanted to go back for high school. He got lucky with a few amazing teachers. It made such a difference in his life. The kid they said would not pass English or science. Came back and rocked physics, English and everything else. Teachers that take the time to understand a child make such a high difference. I hope your daughter does the same. Send a hug your way because honestly seeing your child go through this is so hard.

@@seleana3929 I'm so glad your son is doing better! My daughter wants to go back for high school too. I've never had an issue with the teachers at the high school as I have one who graduated last year and one thats in 10th this year. They have always been helpful and patient with my other 2. Good job to your son for showing that teacher he was more than her harmful words!

The gifted kid turned ADHD burnout in me needed this episode so much. I was always told I talked too much, had too much energy and was just too difficult. It literally wasn't until like 2 months ago when my fiance looked at me and was like "can you please hear me right now. You are not this chaotic monster, you're not too much, and you're not a stupid failure. You've been running a lifelong mile with no legs, you're learning and that's ok". I was speechless for like 25 minutes, no joke 🥹🤣 S/O to my "too much" girlies, I adore y'all and I see you. We're doing great.

The bad teachers actually CONTRIBUTE to the good teacher burnout. I responded to another comment too, but I left education because of the adults, not the kids. So many of them did not give a single SHIT about whether kids felt respected and comfortable in their classrooms. And then would come talk shit TO MY FACE ABOUT ME because I “let them do too much” and it made them “think they’re also allowed to act that way in [their] classroom.” You mean allowing kids to eat when they’re hungry, use the bathroom freely, get up and walk around the classroom if they need to during work time, and let them talk to each other while they work provided the environment is safe, productive, and they’re not abusing the “extra” (read: BASIC) freedoms I give them is letting them do too much???? Ok. Plus- so many teachers don’t go through any sort of DEI training and my Black and Latino students were coming to me DAILY complaining about other teachers’ microaggressions. Not every educational environment is like that, but it is far too common.

As a fellow theatre girly, in college theatre I got labeled as "stuck-up" and wasn't invited to my own cast party as the lead. I don't even know what I did wrong really, I just wasn't as social as the rest of them, I have a lower social battery than most theatre kids. I thought I was friends with them until about half way through rehearsals when I realized I wasn't in the "cool" group chat. That show ended up being my last before I quit. But I'm working on getting back into it.

The education system fails so many kids and it’s heartbreaking. I was a “problem child” in school I was bossy, I was talkative, I didn’t pay attention etc but had someone just stopped to help me as a literally CHILD maybe the problems I was having could have been solved instead of just saying I was bad. I started going to college to be a teacher and after seeing kids just like me I couldn’t do it. I dropped out of school. I couldn’t see them everyday and know that other people were brushing them off too

So kind of off-topic, but kind of related to the labels conversation- my freshman year of college, probably a week into the first semester, this man stops me in my tracks while I’m walking to class and asked me “who are you?” So I told him my name and he was like “no but who ARE you?” And I truly didn’t know how to answer, I don’t think I’ve ever been so without words lmao. Like sir I am a 17 year old college student I don’t KNOW 😭 he was so attractive and definitely disappointed in my response, but looking back I think maybe I dodged a bullet 😂

I was always labelled the “shy, goodie good, nice girl who is super clumsy, forgetful, dramatic, and a scaredy-cat ” but in reality I was the “missed/undiagnosed autistic, masking 24/7, adhd, and TRUAMATIZED girl with lots of anxiety” 😂 So grateful that my chosen career path as an Early Childhood Educator gave me the language I needed to describe my experience and made me realize I was neurodivergent and was finally able to advocate for myself and receive a far too late/ so needed/ validating diagnosis as a 28 year old. Now 30 and starting to thrive as I finally get that I’m not a shitty apple, I’m an orange living in a world made for apples, so no shit life has been a struggle! I’m not stupid, I’m not strange, my brain is simply not a neurotypical brain and that is okay! The relief I felt when it was confirmed to me that I’m not dumb or just not trying hard enough was sooooooo immense! Also thank god for my supportive partner who accommodates me and always is wanting to learn about how to support me 🩷

My sister was diagnosed first and 2. My mom worked in special education at an elementary school, so she was familiar with the signs 3. I showed the signs of chattiness and fidgeting in my desk. I don’t know where I’d be if I hadn’t gotten diagnosed. I’m so glad that Riayn didn’t let the negativity spoken over her to deter her from her greatness 💕

Could you please talk in one episode about how you all (the collective) met? Cause somehow I missed that you met Jadyn years ago for example!
