Episode 45
How time flies by! It has been one year since we purchased this farm, rescued six Belgian Draft horses, a momma donkey and her baby from almost going to slaughter. I was an emotional mess last year when the truck carrying the horses was driving down our driveway. We have never taken care of horses before but with the help from our veterinarians, equine dentist and farrier we are giving these animals a second chance at life.
When I started this channel I received some flack on why I was supporting a kill pen? For me it was never about supporting a kill pen, it was about saving lives. A kill buyer is going to receive the same amount of money either from me saving the animal or from the slaughter house...why would I not save the life? Until something changes in the US, horses and donkeys will continue to be sold to kill pens for slaughter.
It breaks my heart that the horses we have rescued could have had a much different fate if we didn't step in to save them! These horses have changed our lives and we are forever grateful for the time we have with them. My goal is still to save as many lives as I can! Cory and I have always been animal lovers and it's our mission now to help make a change for these precious animals.
We hope you enjoyed this video, make sure you subscribe to our channel so you don't miss anything happening around the farm!
Check out our website too! We have farm fresh goat milk soap available for purchase (All profits from goat milk soap sales go directly to feeding all our rescued animals.)
All our soaps are handmade in small batches using the cold process method. 100% Saponified & Super-Fatted. Free from dyes, detergents, synthetic fragrances and parabens. Made from high quality, natural plant based oils. Hydration for your skin sourced by nature! Our soaps are never overpowering with fragrance, just a hint of therapeutic grade essential oil leaving you feeling refreshed and clean.

Thank you to everyone that has sent us gifts of Alfa Pro, we truly appreciate your support and can't thank you enough!
We have had questions asking if we have an Amazon wish list to help with supplies for the horses. Unfortunately, we do not have a wish list because we purchase all our horse supplies from HF&C Supply Amarillo.
HF&C has offered to help us with anyone wanting to send a gift of Alfa-Pro to the horses. When you call, tell them you are sending a gift to Fletcher Farms Amarillo and they will add those bags to our account. Alfa Pro is $18.25 per 50lb. bag plus tax. WE go through about 2-1/2 bags per day to feed all the 7 horses.
Thank you to all of our subscribers and followers for your support, kindness and generosity! We are grateful for everything and don't know what we would do without your support!

As a Belgian, thank you so very much for rescuing these beautiful horses. It breaks my heart to see them being worked to the bone, but I'm very grateful that there's amazing people out there who give them the retirement they deserve.

I have written a comment above that is unfortunate that the largest abusers of draft horses are the Amish. No secret, the Amish are quite open and blunt that once the animal declines in ability to provide service they are sent to slaughter. The Amish have no problem taking "English" money for the horses. Oh, the Amish market here in Maryland sells commercial products with a couple of stands for some Amish food. Yep, those tropical oranges didn't grow in Pennsylvania.

My favorite painting and one that my guestslove is called, The Belgium Mare, it is a head and neck portrait, over my desk. I have found in Europe on small farms, for the most part, farmers are partners with their horses and do their very best to keep them healthy. Great Britain is reviving use of draft horses in wooded areas to manage forests rather than gas driven and often unwieldy machinery, and other light work or retired to pasture. Pasture animals stimulate growth in many plants by grazing. Britian now has organizations of small farmers for livestock raising to remain independent and not gobbled up by corporate entities. In the United States a pound of boneless, skinless chicken breast costs less than an 11 ounce bag of brand name potato chips. Now eggs come medium, large, extra large, jumbo. What next? Colossal? You would not want to eat our eggs if you saw the crowded filthy conditions of most "farms" or rather chicken warehouses. There is the misleading cage free. Crowded but cage free, no room to move around much, but cage free. In the United States the mule is misunderstood, including that it requires a different saddle and if too stupid a human mounts the mule and kicks and yells, a mule just might lay down.

Some people are unbelievable to criticize you for supporting the kill lot,🤬 What you did was so kind, caring and selfless. You rescued those poor overused Belgians who probably had never been treated properly. They were used as tools and then thrown away. You and your husband should be congratulated. Taking on Drafts is not inexpensive especially when they have injuries from their jobs.❤️

When I was a little girl, I won two awards in a horse show on my 23 year old, nearly blind horse. He listened, but I had to tell him where the jumps and barrels were. We worked together well, but when I could no longer afford to lease him, he was put down. I can't help but to think if older and disabled horses were doted upon they could still have a few good years left. Sorry about Grandpa. They've been worked within an inch of their lives. Glad to see what huge improvements they've made! (Good to hear she's gained weight, we won't tell her you said that!)

Sorry to here about grandpa,i am glad that you and cory were able to give him the best 2 weeks of love and vet care that he probably would never have experienced.Knowing you rescued all 6 belgian drafts and a mama donkey and her baby from the slaughter pipeline is the most unselfish act of kindness anyone could do.I hope that people who follow and support these rescues, realize this could only be possible by people like yourself and others who can make a difference saving these precious lives.I follow another rescue that they buy as many draft horses,minis,donkeys,and horses to rehome and or retire them to a better life than what they have endured.I have cried many tears watching these rescues and when you saved Anna I teared up with you knowing she has a long road ahead of her but is in a far better place than what she has endured in her life.I want to help in anyway I can and look forward to your updates and videos on anna and the rest of your farm pets.

I have 110 acres with one retired Standardbred Amish horse... I want to do what you do... people think I'm crazy just because I have love for horses and Peterbilts... I'm so glad I'm not the only one on the planet that love these animals... the Amish work their horses all their lives, but they don't keep them when they retired them... good for you for what you do... from an admirer, from upstate New York... my name is Manny Perez from St Johnsville New York... I wish I could find a lady just like you around here... bless you and your husband

You and your husband Cory are such lovely kind people and so good to see kindness still exists in this world. These Amish are harsh in their treatment of horses, especially the work horses. It’s a shame they should learn to respect animals in their care. Thank you for giving these beautiful creatures shelter in their old age. They all look content, wonderful and up to weight. God Bless you both, from the UK X

The Amish also have puppy mills. You would think that with their worship of God they would respect all his creatures but they are amongst the worst animal abusers. How do they reconcile that!
@gillhall7590
@gillhall7590 Год назад
@@starlooker6612 They worship another Christ, just as the Bible says. The antichrist and his followers can appear as angels of light, to lead people astray, the Bible calls them false shepherds and wolves in sheep’s. Discernment is required to identify false cults. You can tell a tree by the fruit it produces. True Christians are caretakers of the planet and Gods kingdom. He created all animals and we should respect them and their welfare. Some are here to nourish us, others to help us work the land; others companions, but all should be well treated and cared for humanely.

I wanted to add on to what I commented. I lived and worked on a horse rescue and learned so much from the woman who has been rescuing horses for a long time. She told me about the Amish horses and I was completely horrified. She rescued a mare (that was pregnant) from a kill pen. The mare died shortly after giving birth and the colt had to be bottle fed. All the rescue people have to pick from so many sad, sick and depressed horses in a kill pen. The people who do not understand this should go after the countries that choose horse meat as a delicacy. I know how difficult it is to help the horses and you and your husband are doing a fantastic service for these beautiful creatues. Again, Thank You!

You've done such a good job rescuing these donkeys and draft horses. This is a life I wish I could live, however all I can do is watch your videos and support when I can. This is my very first subscription to anything on RU-vid. Thank you and Corey for all you do.

❣💯 Am new to your channel and just subscribed. Thank you so much, Cory, for wanting to buy all six Belgian draft horses when Julie had the idea to do rescue work for your new 43 acres. Amazing how you gave the gift of loving life to these very needy equines. They all crave your TLC and return it to you. I can't believe the donkey mamma and her 1-week-old baby were going to the kill pen in 2 days. Your empathy and compassion are so moving! You made my day. Now I can sleep in peace tonight.

Congratulations on your 1st Anniversary. Those beautiful horses and donkeys have come such a long way since you took them in, not forgetting the cats and dog. Thank you Corey for opening your 'home' to them and thank you to those that have helped, but particularly Julie for your hard work and care. 💜

Knowing the neglect and abuse these beautiful animals endure blows my mind . For Amish or any culture to work these creatures to almost death is beyond belief. Never get the least care or none is inexcusable. Shame! Thank you for doing whatever you can to help means everything.

Julie, you've done a wonderful job with these animals the past year. I hope this inspires more folks to give God's creatures a chance for a happy life. Tip of the cap to Corey who has also helped make this possible. Even though your hard work and sacrifice is behind the scenes, your efforts are appreciated by many.

Thank you and Corey for rescuing Grandpa and the rest of his horse family...horses build such strong relationships with others in their herd, the two mares are an excellent example. Your bringing all with the old gent helped ease any disorientation and their eyes his while he got his bearings. That, loving friendships, gentle hands, soft voice, great food and excellent medical care gave him a taste of the life of leisure. He showed his appreciation by always approaching his two-legged saviors with his gentle giant self to sniff and nuzzle. He is in greener pastures now, but you gave him heaven on earth his last weeks. We all appreciate and thank you for your compassion ❤🧚🏼‍♀️🙏🏼☮

Wow that is the same kill pen I rescued a few horses from when I lived north of Fort Worth! All of mine have been rehomed after caring feeding and riding them. I loved helping horses, it broke my heart of knowing what happens to the ones that don't get rescued. Keep up the good work, animals need us !!!

Thank you so much for rescuing all the animals . The Amish people ought to be ashamed of themselves . For never giving these loving hard working animals no vet care . Especially when they worked them so hard all the time . Those animals were suffering In so much pain . That's what you call animal cruelty . Leaving them to suffer In so much pain . I feel sorry , that poor Grandpa had to endure all the pain that he did and for as long as he did 😢😢😢 ... He's IN NO PAIN NOW .RIP Grandpa !!! Thank you guys for saving all the other animals too . Thank YOU , thank the vets and JUST EVERYONE THAT WAS INVOLVED In SAVING THESE SWEET ANIMALS ... GOD BLESS YOU ALL ...

I have been watching this channel for about 3 months or maybe a bit more and you would reference “the original six” and I didn’t know what you meant - until now...🥺 I am glad Grandpa was able to get quality love and attention before passing...😭 Seriously I have strong feelings about abused and neglected animals. On a lighter note- baby Madison is stealing the show over there...😆

I need to make a “trailer video” so people know what our channel is all about. But I need Cory in that video. 🤣 The original 6 were rescued last February. Freya was rescued in March and Anna was rescued in August. I wish I had more barn space I would save them all if I could. We have Grandpa the best 2 weeks we could give him. He waited at the gate for me every morning and would follow me everywhere. He was an amazing and sweet horse. We miss him and wish we could have had more time with him.

I have spent a bit of time with horses and if I were a bit younger I would get me some of those critters. In my eyes horses are God’s glory. Truly horses embody grace, beauty and strength along with an intelligence that is undefinable. When a horse moves in complete freedom - it’s utterly captivating.
