Episode 71
Back at the beginning of June a subscriber/Facebook follower reached out to me asking if I had seen the Belgian Draft Horse Gelding that was listed on Bowie Texas Livestocks page and wanted to know if we could save him. At the time we were working on getting Amara healthy and weren't planning on rescuing another horses. Lot #0136 was a Belgian Gelding standing at 16.2 hands and was 17 years old. From his livestock yard video he looked healthy and was not underweight like so many of the other horses we rescued. The video stated he was turned out for 2 years with his previous owners and had not been worked with. His ship to slaughter date was on a Friday and that Thursday with the help of our subscriber we rescued him! I couldn't let this beautiful, healthy horse with sweet, gentle, scared eyes ship to slaughter.
The following day we picked him up! Just like with Finn (one of our other horses who was turned out to pasture) it was going to take some time to earn his trust. Noah was not as rough around the edges as Finn was but we gave him the space he needed to learn to trust people again. There is no telling what these horses have previously been through. We worked with him and gave him time to adjust to his new environment and decompress. Over time Noah began to trust again. This video is Noah's story and his journey so far at Fletcher Farms Amarillo/Big Hoof Foundation. Welcome to the family sweet boy!
Finn was another horse we rescued that learned to trust agin. If you did not see his video, check out the link to Finn's video.

Noah is a very handsome chap! All the horses are looking so well, coats are shiny and eyes are bright. It must be a lot of work looking after them all and the other animals. They are lucky to have found their way to the farm, I’ve lost count of how many you have rescued! Thank you for all the love and support you give them and the extra medical support the more frail of the horses receive. What a wonderful retirement they are all enjoying! ❤️🎉🎊

Thank you so much for rescuing that sweet boy Noah! I am horrified to think how close this sweetheart was to going to slaughter. You are a true angel and my hero!!! The work you do to save these horses from a bolt to the head/slaughter deserves so much thanks and appreciation. Thank you, Mike, for letting Julie know about Noah! He really needed the rescue and some much needed tlc. He is so beautiful!! What a kind, sweet boy. His feet look like they may present a challenge. I hope a good trim will help him and that he won't have problems with hoof cracks, they look pretty split up. Thanks again to Fletcher Farms for the amazing work they do. @FletcherFarmsAmarillo
@FletcherFarmsAmarillo 11 месяцев назад
@@rodandjudibowen5665 some of these horses have been abused and Noah shows signs of that sometimes. When he’s separated from the herd he gets very upset. Working with these big horses you always have to have your guard up and your head on a swivels. Our next step is to move the stock out of the barn and put it in the paddock for farrier day. Aline the alpha mare will not go in the stock in the barn because she can’t se me the other horses. So we bring the stock outside so she can still see the herd. We are thinking this is the same situation with Noah.

It is very possible the people who did care for him for a couple of years (without working him to pieces) actually sent him to auction thinking that someone would purchase him as work or driving horse. The vet found no disease, so the owners may have been aged or in hard times and had to let him go. It is possible they would be horrified to know their fine horse ended up on a ship list. This proves NO HORSE is safe being sent to ANY auction.

@@littlewiseowl4405 Agreed! This economy has hit horse owners and anyone that owns livestock really hard. I feel that is why there is an uptake in animals at the auction this year. I have seen so many posts about people selling horses on facebook because they can't afford feed anymore.

Noah is in great condition! Its hard to believe he ended up at one of these auctions! But, this is just more evidence to support my theory that the original, long term owners of so many of these horses don't have any idea of what happens to them after they are sold, or re-homed to a "good" family! This also supports the idea that if you love your horse, it would be best to just keep it through retirement until death from old age!

What a loving tribute to Noah and all your beautiful horses, Julie! At first I was feeling so sorry for Noah, as he didn't seem to have a place in the herd. I always to seem to get tears in my eyes when watching one of your videos! I love your reference to "horse drama". I wonder what goes on in the minds of this majestic animals and how they sort things out. Glad he has found his place. You are the kindest people! Thank you for posting this and all your videos!!

Noah looks so good and Big Boy Liam seems to be moving a lot more. I hope he's more comfortable now after the acupuncture, would love an update on that. Thank you so much for the horse labels! You got such a big herd now, it's hard to spot who's who!🐴

Absolutely beautiful horses I always love watching your videos😊 he should need some puffs done. They’re terrible looking but I know that’s what happens when a horse is neglected, and the horse was neglected before you received it but I always love watching you. You always make the horses so healthy you take care of them very very good. You guys are awesome people to be a rescue farm.😊

Would love to see videos put out more often! Looks like it’s time to put up another barn so you can continue to save more Belgians from slaughter. Any plans for a fundraiser for that purpose? Thank you for saving these beautiful, noble beings and providing a loving home for them 🥰

Hi Gayle. I'm wondering about the means to an additional barn as well. 🤠

I wish I had time to put out more videos but Cory works a full time job and I take care of all the horses on my own. I really need to do a video on what my day usually consists of. We are working on expanding our barn and building additional space for the horses. For grazing purposes we can only take on so many horses before they over graze our pasture. So we do have a limit on how many horses we can rescue. We do have another area we plan to fence off for an additional grazing area. Lots of projects limited time. Everything happened so fast we weren’t expecting it to turn out this way. But we are so glad it did! Legally we can not do a fundraiser for a barn or infrastructure because the Big Hoof Foundation does not own the land and a 501c3 can not pay for the structure on land they don’t own. It’s very complicated but Cory and I are working on some plans for the future. Lots coming!

Oh Julie he's a beauty..great that the only thing he needed was a farrier visit..makes a nice change for you..Charlie protecting the ladies🤣..but Noah was sensible and played the long game and the ladies got to know the new handsome guy..I love them all..but I do have a favourite..and its Liam..he is so gorgeous..I too have osteoarthritis so I understand walking with pain..some days are better than others but he doesn't let it stop him enjoying his retirement and a good roll in the dirt😃.. what you are doing is wonderful..rather than a kill truck you are giving them time to heal..enjoy their remaining yrs with love..care and company..after their long yrs of hard work..I get so excited when I see notifications...and can't wait to get my draft horse fix..Bless you for all you do for these wonderful animals. .🇬🇧💞✝️🙏👏👍👏👍👏🐴🐴🐴🐴🇺🇸

Noah is healthier from the start so able to trot around the pasture with no problem. Watching Noah strut around seems like he is very comfortable in his surroundings already & is showing his confidence & doesn't seem phased too much by the new kid in town treatment. Clearly Charlie & Aline seems alittle extra upset with this new guy. Are they afraid there just might be a new sheriff in on the farm & they might lose their staus? lol Everyone looks good or getting better. Fletcher Farms seems to agree with everyone. Their testament to the love & attention they each get.
