I wouldn't say that Santa is the best equivalency to a god belief because we know where presents come from. It's demonstrable. There's no guess work. God(s) on the other hand is used to explain things that we do not and may not ever understand (e.g. the origins of the universe, destructive weather, why kids die of cancer, etc.) It fills in the gaps in our knowledge. A lot of people can't accept the "I don't know" answer when it concerns the big questions, so they use god as a placeholder even though they cannot demonstrate that one exists.

Cool shirt. My favorite DF album. Regarding organized religion, it truly is insane when you actually think about it. If one is a Jew, then in their mind, a Christian or Muslim is going to hell. and vice versa. And as I've stated, those three religions are forever connected. Without Judaism, there'd be no Christianity for it started as a radical sect of Judaism. And then Islam came. They believe Jesus was a "prophet," but not the "Messiah." Thus each one thinks the other one is going to "hell." It's all just silliness. I've always been drawn more towards paganism, for lack of a better term. Not that I believe in a literal Wotan or Zeus. But you get what I mean. I was raised Catholic and quickly saw it was bullshit at a young age. I practice boxing and submission fighting. Never cared for Pantera, even when Phil could actually half-way sing (Cemetery gates). And give me one Venom, Dio, Motorhead, Bathory, Pentagram, Iron Maiden, and Black Sabbath over dozens of "metalcore"/canoe bands. Sabbath, Bloody, Sabbath and Mob Rules I could listen to 10,001 times. Never will gets old.
