This video features the extremely rare Bell 206LT TwinRanger C-GWWQ operated by Ascent Helicopters seen in Nelson, British Columbia, CZNL. In this video you can see the engines startup and the takeoff. I don't know the exact number, but I know there are less than 20 twin-engined Bell 206's in the world, so it was great to get to see this rare helicopter!

That's the only time I've ever seen a Bell 206LT twin ranger is on RU-vid.. never seen one up close.. that's a really good looking helicopter.. I keep hoping that revell Germany would make a model kit of this one, longranger L-4 & the Bell 407
@TheHDAviation

I'm lucky, I caught two 206LT's at my local airport. Such a rare helicopter to see! I hope those kits are made some day, that would be fun ones to have.

that was a great catch!! the twinranger had quite the history... quebec police have/had one... never really took off as a commercial machine... seems more and more operators, especially in BC, are looking to twin engine equipment to keep the customer base satisfied....

Great catch ie:right place right time....!!!!! (Airframes built) The Bell 206LT TwinRanger was a new-build production model equivalent to Tridair's Gemini ST, and was based on the 206L-4. Only thirteen 206LTs were built, the first being delivered in January 1994, and the last in 1997. The TwinRanger was replaced in Bell's lineup by the mostly-new Bell 427

The 206 twin may have just been a former Macmillian-Bloedel Operated Helicopter but age and sunlight faded the red to look more like dark orange. Mac-Blo went belly up around 2000. I flew aboard a Mac Blo chopper from Vancouver downtown out to the Big Log Cedar Mill on the west side of Vancouver Island, the mill was called Somass, and was the last mill still capable of sawing logs 9 feet in diameter. The Tree Hiuggers really hated that and many trees were sabotaged to try and kill Loggers.

Quick question for the rotor heads here from a n00b: what's the benefit of twin engines on a single rotor heli? Is there a safety/redundancy if one engine fails?
@Desert515
@Desert515 4 года назад
That is defined by the type of helicopter not all twins can hover max gross on a single engine

Wow thats a rare catch! and does this airport get more helicopter traffic or fixed wing traffic daily?
@TheHDAviation
@TheHDAviation 10 лет назад
Thanks! No, CZNL doesn't get very much traffic at all. There is barely any fixed wing action, and no scheduled flights. There can be quite a bit of helicopter activity during the summer for forest fires season and during the winter for heli skiing.

TheHDAviation Your channel really makes it look like Nelson is swarming with aircraft all the time! Your videos seem to pop right up whenever I search RU-vid for a particular plane - Piper Comanche when I was practicing in Flight Simulator, and a DHC2 Beaver when I was setting up an RC model - but then I remind myself that's two planes in two years. 🙂

What does the LT in 206LT stand for? Long Turbine?

I assumed it stood for Light Twin, but that is just a guess.

Long Twin. There were only 13 'converted' from single engine 206L (Long Rangers)
@nocalsteve
@nocalsteve 8 лет назад
I couldn't find how many were built but Bell has built at least 13 factory new 206LT TwinRangers. The conversions are technically Tridair Geminis.

discofishing Ya, when I saw it was down at my local airport I spent quite a bit of time hoping to catch it take off and finally got lucky. I'd love to see a 214ST some day, I think there is at least one company in Canada that operates them, so maybe I'll get lucky some day!
