Filmed during quarter peal week. Here what I believed was a failed quarter attempt, was rung on the front 6 of the ten.
The church built on a concrete raft. The bells wwre cast in 1872 by Taylors and were 25cwt in F. Howvere, they were recast in 1912, (I am sure I read somewhere because people said they were unmusical.) The ring was augmented to 10 it 1922 and paid for by the brewer Worthington. Thus, the present ring is a ten, the tenor weighing 28cwt in D.
The tower, is a 123ft tall.
The church cost £50,000 by the time of it's completion in 1874!
THe church was paid for by the Bass family, it is along held belief that Bass hoped Burton would be granted city status and Saint Paul's would be its cathedral.
Sir Edmund Beckett had a played a part in the orginal bells installation.
The louvers are made from glass!
The bells are still on an oak frame and plain beraings.
The first silent peal was rung in this tower.
A total of 439 peals have been rung in the tower.
The tower was famous for "the saint pauls society of change ringers"
Famous ringers inculde the Wakley's.
Sorry for camera angles changing quickly, but there was quite a bit of wind noise on the day and I didn't think my camera would pick the bells up well!
