I can't overstate what a privilege it has been so far to witness the re-building of Tally-Ho. When I first got hooked on this series, I took for granted what I was seeing, but gradually, I realised this isn't like any other boat building RU-vid series, slapped together from discarded pallet wood, oh no. Tally-Ho is the Rolls-Royce of RU-vidr built sailing yachts.
@silasmarner7586

It truly is. It is the gold standard of yachts, not seen in a long time except with multi-million motor yachts for now-discgraced Russian oligarchs!

People like to comment that she's not the same boat, that it's basically a new build etc. but honestly, this is how you re-build a boat in that sort of condition properly. There's no patching on Tally Ho, no "good enough" and nothing done to just get it floating, this is how it should be
@Jason_xofilos
@Jason_xofilos 2 месяца назад
I was about to comment the same so I will just say I concur. 👍 Absolutely looking gorgeous and see Tally Ho come alive again into a working sailing vessel has been a privilege especially watching all the artisans, craft folks, and technicians helping work on the Tally Ho.

@@helplmchoking In fairness, Leo originally set out to reuse as much of the old boat as possible. His initial estimation of her condition was not thorough enough, because, as we know, it became clear that very little of her was salvageable some episodes in. Leo and the team has done a remarkable job at keeping her hull and rig as close to the original drawings, so while it may not be the same boat, it certainly has the same soul.

@@helplmchoking regarding the idea of it not being the same boat: at what point during the rebuild would you look at it and say that it's not the same boat that was bought for a dollar?

I just watched this episode, No. 182 posted March 2, 2024. The first episode was posted June 30, 2017. I first watched it July 21, 2017, and became a monetary supporter. Leo is nearly _SEVEN_ years into this project. It was obvious from that first video that Leo had the vision, drive, genius, skill, experience, talent, etc to see Tally Ho through to relaunch. Many people joined when I did and many joined later. The one thing that has been true from the beginning, is that the end has always been in sight; just two more years and the project will end. The Sampson Boat Co channel has been a constant joy to watch. I have received much more from Leo than I can ever repay him for. Thank you to the entire crew, past and present.

Similar story. I started with his third video, when he built the boat shed…by himself. I thought ‘This kid’s crazy.’ Then he cleaned the workshop, again by himself, and I realized I was wrong - he’s got gumption. Little did we all know how far that would go. It’s been such a wonderful, organic journey. I enjoy reading the comments as much as the watching the videos. There are just so many….

Amen Brother! I started watching him early on and got my oldest son (now 53) watching him. It has been simply amazing the passion and foresight he had when he decided to do this project! I always loved his desire to keep everything original that he could unless it hindered function or safety standards he wanted to hold. It will be awesome to see the long term affect he has had on those passing through his shop and spending time on this project. I have also loved every minute of his quality of work ethics, his dedication and focus on his work, his ability to inspire those helping him, and not lowering his standards for excellence even when he was tight on funds. You knew you were investing in something of significant historical value that should someday be a showpiece of maritime drive to prove you can resurrect an historical vessel and totally redo it down to the bones and gut of the ship and bring it back to superior standards of not just quality but to standards of excellence in re-design, engineering soundness, and sea worthiness without compromise. People will invest in the type of vision and ability that he not only talked about but put his money and hard work into to show how committed he was to doing what he said. After a few videos it was very apparent that he was going to do what he said!

@@hyselwatchandclockrepair1874 Well I have been a finish carpenter for 37 years. In that time I have endured my disappointment when a customer wont pay for the job to be completed in a more perfectly artistic quality. Your correct I think in trying to say that Tally Ho is art work, and creative art is priceless. But I assure you that my team can build an identical Tally Ho provided the capital resources are available. In fact as we look around the world at enterprises far outstripping the pace and collaboration here, a great multitude of Art is realized through generous patronages. My Father and I used to watch every time Leo released a new video, sadly I lost my Father May 26 2023, I couldn’t bring myself to watch the updates for several months, I’m glad that I’ve now caught up, and look forward to the day that Tally Ho is launched. My Dad loved ships, he served on a tug that is now a museum in Ramsgate harbor. He built a wooden scale model of the Cutty Sark. I’m just sad that my Dad won’t see the relaunch of Tally Ho.

Leo, I think the most incredible part of this whole project is the number of artisans you've surrounded yourself with. The boat itself is becoming a functional piece of art. That stained glass is amazing, but the leather work and colour choice for the cushions are just excellent. I've said it before, but as much as I want the build to go on forever, I cant wait to see her when she is finished.

I was having a bad day, ruminating on my mental health issues, digging through muck. Yet as I spent 20 minutes watching this video, it made me smile and all giddy. Watching Patty turn the liquor locker light on for the first time and the fact that I had the exact same reaction as him made me laugh out loud for a good few minutes. Every time I watch a video of Tally Ho (and I revisit the older ones from time to time) it makes me feel like a kid in a candy store. Godspeed

Embrace the suck. Whatever you resist persists. If you're able, hard exercise helps. If you're not conditioned, don't overdo it or you'll never do it again lol. I find hard exercise is like having a shower on the inside (albeit about an hour or 2 after I finish ;). The effects go on for several days.

So when Tally Ho got evicted from the original place of rebirth, there was a lot of angst. However the silver lining of transferring to Port Townsend, has enabled this Project to highlight the breadth and depth of Trades and Artisans that exist in and around this Maritime Community and shine a light on the possibilities that anyone seeking repair, restoration or upgrade to their own marine based project should consider and utilise. Port Townsend is a centre of excellence. Take a Bow everyone involved. That now includes Mya, Golden Hour Leather, Alice the Stain Glass, to the long list of Boat Builders, Riggers, Mechanics, Electricians et al. All making Local, but now known Global...... This is the Gift that Tally Ho and Leo have created.

True, it's great to see that community get so much support and reputation. I've wondered if Carol Hasse is building Tally Ho's sails. She sails a Folkboat which must warm Leo's heart having made a transatlantic in one of his own. Two other RU-vid boat builders have made what seem like odd choices, Redivia has vertical cut cotton sails, and Arrabella has a track and modern sailcolth. On Tally Ho, with the served stays and shrouds, and wooden blocks, (both wisely equipped with hidden modern synthetics in their functional guts) as well as the ash hoops, she still has a very traditional look. I hope Leo opts for a three-strand rope like Hempex for the running rigging. I love the look of and function of 3 strand splices which would help keep the rig looking classic. Also hope he opts for cream-color dyed soft-finsh sailcoth like Contender Oceanus. I suspect these decisons have already been made, and i look forward to seeing the rest of the rig come together

I was about to post something similar but you said it so well. The move to Port Townsend was the best thing that could have happened. It allowed Leo to connect to true professional shipwrights and their network of other trades people that took the project to the highest possible level; something he couldn't have achieved with inexperienced volunteers. As a result we viewers got to see skilled artisans at work and how million dollar yachts are made.

It never stops amazing me how when people work together, such an awesome result takes place. Too bad people can't work together in this world to make it beautiful like Tally Ho. She certainly proves it can be done. Godspeed Tally Ho!

Beautiful work beautiful Maya! The interior is getting 1000% beautiful details.(65,933 views in three hours, hi everyone!). I'm so gobsmacked seeing so much finished. I'm a Union and Hobby Carpenter so this has all been soul touching to watch. I also do stained glass so that part of this episode was an added bonus, I have been watching since the very first episode because frankly it was a sort of impossible train wreck in the beginning. I have tears in my eyes right now. As with some of my own projects there is going to be a happy-sadness when this comes to an end. I will see her in person I hope before I die as well, it will be like a pilgrim to Mecca for me. The viewers like me get so much out of watching Leo, more than you will ever know, Thank you and all the team, without contributions like yours this project would not be possible!

You’re just a great guy all around. One of your many qualities I admire is your gratefulness and humbleness to those who’ve supported you not only financially and with gifts, but to the many crew members who’ve put their skills, love and hard work into Tallyho along side you. Tallyho is a blessed vessel and I’m excited to watch as she transforms into this beautiful ship. It feels like we’re coming to the end of the first part of the story.

One of the things that I love so much about this project isn't talked about very often (and I think it should be). Tally Ho has been a real opportunity for a younger generation of not only viewers but a huge list of craftspeople to see the incredible artistry and craftsmanship of heritage boat building. I think about all of the younger folks from the foundry, to the sail makers, the boatbuilding school, upholsterers... floating around the backgrounds of the shots working with some incredible elders as they learn their craft. I think of Patty "kinda knowing some woodworking" (and so many others) when they joined the project who now have legit industry experience. Tally Ho and Leo's passion project has really served a valuable purpose. I like the idea that my family's donations here and there aren't just "building a boat for Leo". They are employing hundreds of people, many in a new generation, on an incredible project that the world gets to watch in a fairly new way. I hope Leo points out at some point the enormous ecosystem of people, many from a new generation, who have earned a living and gained rare experience on the project. It's the big reason I and other patrons I know have been so happy to support. My best to you all.

Having watched from early on (not quite the very beginning but very soon after), I guess the one lesson we all have learnt from Leo & Tally-Ho is that patience brings its own reward. Projects like Tally-Ho are born from a dream and hope (inspite of the detractors) and survive due to perseverance, but above are completed due to patience.

Anyone who sees Tally Ho will learn the meaning of craftmanship. Each of your team is a wizzard. I have been building things all my lifeand can hear your amazement at what the team has accomplished. I am excited for your adventures with this work of art called a boat. Well Done and congratulations on the fruition of a vision. I suspect you are almost as amazed at the results as we are. I've been watching since close to the first episode and I find that the videos are not as in depth as they used to be, but with so many moving parts, the build crew, and all the time to edit and produce videos, I totally understand that the content has morphed a bit. That being said, I appreciate this show more than any other as it's continued to be of the the highest quality in all aspects, even if the videos have changed a bit, and look forward to each new episode. Thank you Leo and ALL the collaborators. It takes a village.

WOW! I've been watching pretty much from the beginning. this is fabulous. I was hoping to see her before I moved to Tennessee, but I can't wait any longer to move, my mom needs my help.,and we are getting a place by Jefferson City Tenn. just waiting on the LORD to open the doors. I remember when I ran away from home as a teenager and I was housed at the Port Townsend Youth Center. I remember they had cast iron beds and they didn't even lock the doors. How times have changed? I just turned 62 on Feb. 20th. She is looking beautiful guys. Keep up the great work.

So far I have watched all the jokes about the "saga" about the construction of this beautiful yacht. I am impressed by the professionalism and great commitment of everyone who has worked with you over the years. Often as volunteers and enthusiasts. Everyone working on this project and we watching it feel that a great thing is being created. Full of the spirit given to her by thousands of people who watch each episode with passion and by everyone who directly builds and supports the construction of Tally. Greetings from Poland and "fingers crossed" Good Luck.

Hi, Leo. It's an almost unimaginable and mostly miraculous transformation from the sad hulk that you bought for a $1.00. The cabin now looks like a gentlemen's club in Mayfair, rather than a wreck. I wish you, the crew, and Tally Ho! the very best of fortune, fair weather and prosperous cruising. That boat is going to draw crowds wherever you sail her.

There are, of course, many beautiful yachts on our oceans. How many, I wonder, will be as artfully crafted as Tally Ho. Years of work by true artisans. Artisans and sailors. We are (hopefully) assuming that when she gets her bum wet that we will be able to follow your ocean adventures. Because that would be EPIC!!
