Never has Ben Affleck come off as more honest, REAL, and flawed as the rest of us than an interview on Howard! Excellent work! I myself, never understood the 'hate' this dude garnered? Always found him to be an awesome actor, his role in Dazed & Confused is still to this day one of my favorite roles!

This is fascinating stuff, I like how candid and authentic he’s being. The Oscars can be so artificial and sometimes they end up rewarding the film with the best marketing campaign instead of the best film on merit.

Imagine how Spielberg felt. He directed (among others), Jaws, E.T., Close Encounters, all of the Indiana Jones movies, Always, The Color Purple, Empire of the Sun, Hook and Jurassic Park before finally winning best director for Schindler's List in 1994.

I mean, Schindler's List is a lot more deserving than those movies. And funny that you say Jurassic Park because Jurassic Park and Schindler's List came out in the same year, had Spielberg be nominated in the two Best Director noms in the same year, he would've won for Schindler's List

@@15Candles You're missing the point. Regardless of whether or not Schindler's List was more deserving than Jurassic Park, that still doesn't explain the other movies (that spans over 10 years prior to Schindler's List) mentioned in the list I gave where Spielberg didn't win.

This was a great interview, very candid. I remember hearing Ben didn't win best director having won best picture that year and I was shocked too. It's okay, he should know that he is an amazing talent anyway, It's undeniable, he's done great work throughout his career, his movies are definitely some of my favourites. We love you Ben!

Ben probably did get snubbed by the Academy but it won't be the first time. Glenn Close is one of the best actresses of all time and she's been getting snubbed by the Academy for decades. She should have won Best Actress for Fatal Attraction back in 1988.

Atleast it got a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination, it's either getting Best Director or Best Adapted Screenplay nomination to win Best Picture. Argo won Adapted Screenplay

Best picture is the only category where the whole academy votes on. Only the directors branch votes for best director. That’s why the choices are often more eclectic

I know Ben Affleck is the source of a lot of internet jokes but I really am a huge fan of his. This was a great interview. Crazy to see him being so honest about all of this. Scorsese had made Means Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino, The Last Temptation of a Christ, The Age of Innocence, The Aviator and Gangs of New York before he finally got his Oscar in 2007 for the Departed. Affleck made Gone Baby Gone. You be the judge
