A 10 mile walk from Dalwhinnie into the Ben Alder Estate to climb the 2 remote Munros Ben Alder and Beinn Bheòil. I found a camping spot at Culra Bothy and stayed for 2 nights.
The bothy has been closed for some time due to asbestos, although remains unlocked for use as an emergency shelter.
I made the decision to avoid the Long Leaches ridge and walked the route clockwise descending from Ben Alder down to Bealach Breabag where a path leads down from the bealach to a small Loch. This made for a longer route.
Another fantastic trip in a stunning area.

My videos are not intended to be an exact guide to any hill, mountain or low level walk featured in the video. I don’t cover every aspect of the route, terrain or difficulties.
Please refer to walkhighlands.co.uk or the book by the SMC, The Munros - Hillwalking Guide, for detailed walk descriptions.
Stay safe out there and enjoy! 😊

Funnily enough I was up there ten days before your trip, even camped in almost the same spot and like you we had the place to ourselves.- 5° both night’s so it was a chilly one. We did the ridge you were pondering over in wonderful winter conditions but I’d say you made the right call given that you were on your own and you didn’t know how tricky it might be. As it happens I’m sure you’d have been fine but better safe than sorry. Interesting to see how much snow melt there had been in those ten day’s. We sat by Ben Alder summit cairn for lunch and there was tons of snow. You were lucky to have such a beautiful day and your filming reflects how stunning it is up there. I very much enjoyed your video and it brought it all back to me. Lovely! Cheers Tim

Thanks so much Tim. I was patiently waiting on the right weather/conditions for my trip. Snow was a concern being on my own so I was glad most of it was gone. I enjoyed it so much there I might go back & do the ridge! Thanks for watching. 🙏

Shame about the Bothy been closed. I’ve stayed there a couple of times in the past - it’s a great Bothy. When we last climbed Ben Alder, we went up the short Leacheas ridge which was fine. I don’t think you would have had a problem on the other ridge. Thanks for sharing!

Great video Linda 📹 it's a bit of a trek in just to reach the 🏔 so made sense to wildcamp ⛺ how do you find MSR ? I have just purchased the MSR Elixir 1 so looking forward to doing a few more wildcamps ⛺ I can understand why you might be a bit nervous about the snowy ridge on your own 😨 I would have been the same ! Fantastic shot of the plane 🛩 at the end 👌 brilliant Linda atb Brian 👍

Enjoyed this. Regarding the Long Leachas I understand your trepidation esp being solo. When I done it I thought-is that it? And I am by no means comfortable with exposure. You mentioned you have done the other 4 in the area. Did you do the Lancet Edge and if so how did you find it as I have still to do this? Best wishes. Brian
@LindaOutdoors
@LindaOutdoors 2 года назад
Thanks Brian, no Lancet Edge. We walked up the Glen from Loch Ossian towards Culra & headed up towards Carn Dearg 1st then a straightforward walk back along the other 3 Munros to the start point. 👍

The view to Sgor Iutharn (Pointy one) looks great from your tent. Always meant to do it but never made it when visiting the munros in this area. It is a long walk back to the road, well done on carrying all the gear. Any ideas how much you carried?
@LindaOutdoors
@LindaOutdoors 2 года назад
It weighed about 10.5 kg before water & lunch for the following day so prob about 11.5-12 kg. I’ve tried hard to cut down on weight but you still need to pack plenty of layers! 🥶
