Actor Ben Schwartz, star of Sonic the Hedgehog, made us a promise: if Sonic 2 got greenlit, he would return to our studio and do another speed-interview with Polygon's Patrick Gill. Well, things didn't turn out quite as planned. But Sonic the Hedgehog 2 comes out April 8, 2022, and a facsimile of Ben Schwartz HAS ARRIVED... to cross swords with his greatest rival once more.

These interviews are like a competition between Pat and Ben except it's impossible to tell what the competition is, who is winning at any one time, or why there's even a competition in the first place.

I keep being entertained by this interview, especially the part where Pat has to voice Sonic. His 1st voice is fine, and the more he gets pressured by Ben, the worse it gets. Ben compares Pat's voices to other Sonic VAs. Ben does his Sonic and judging by Pat's reaction (maybe I'm just projecting), he forgot that he was talking to a Sonic VA. And I think it really lands when Ryan is caught off guard but does a fine Sonic voice, gets praised by Ben, and Pat rubs his forehead.

I literally put off watching this bc i was so excited i didn't want it to be over so soon. I cannot express enough how much these interviews are made for me, i became a huge fan of polygon and ben schwartz at the same time during quarantine, and when i realized the first interview existed it was like the stars aligned for me. It was a crossover that i never would've dreamed would happen. The fact that there's 3 of these with my favorite entertainers feels too good to be true. Please find some reason to stream video games with Ben when he's in NY next time!
