I disagree with the (or higher) part because if she wanted to find a guy who has "a higher level of faith" then the proper way to go about that is to work on her own faith, then look for someone equal---only after she has put in the work. The problem with her "marrying up" in that case, is it means the guy lacks (to some degree) prudence, wisdom, and/or intelligence... If a guy "marries down" in relation to faith (especially to a significant degree) then he wears his faith as a facade. His faith is obviously weaker than it appears, but he and the people who hold him to such a high standard of faith are blinded by his pride (or "confidence" as some mistakingly call it). He is definitively virtue signaling, regardless of whether or not he is aware of it.

Some Jewish thinkers believe that there is always a person meant for the other person and vice versa, but if you haven't done the work on yourself to be suitable (same with the other), then it is unlikely to work out. I'm a Christian and followed much of this advice - including saving sex for marriage. My only regret is we should have saved MORE of our touching until marriage, because it clouded some of the real relationship issues we ended up having to deal with later. Earlier could have been clearer and easier. But I'm with Ben - sex rocks when you wait and stick to one. Issues come with giving out free samples. Good review. Love the eyebrows. ♥

I can see where you are coming from but I have to disagree. When I met and started dating my now husband we didn't rush into bed but both of us knew it's better to find out if we're compatible before going under the Chuppah. Same goes to living together before marriage, which is the best way to find out how you partner functions in the home and how they contribute without their parents in the picture everyday imo. I would always recommend knowing your partner as much as you can before "tying the knot" as they say....
@user_mll374

@@michal31131 That worked for YOU. Over half of marriages end in divorce, whether the people lived together first or not 😉 In fact, there are statistics on this...lol
@ajb.822
@ajb.822 Год назад
@@michal31131 I actually have reasons to agree with you, per my own experience, BUT know that's still wrong and a mistake. #1: God's clear on this, and, being our Creator who is also the one who loves us most, He knows far more than we about what is best. #2: No contraceptive is 100 effective all the time. If you have sex, you're "risking" a pregnancy, a child being born to the 2 of you. I wouldn't "risk" that with anyone I didn't trust and love enough to want to marry 1st and to work out all seeming incompatibilities with me, with faith, afterwards. I wouldn't want my child to have any less in their parents. #3: Stuff comes up later in life, in relationships, in marriage all the time. One lady in our health care cost sharing group had a husband who told her one day he was gay and left her for a man. My close friend had an amazing marriage for many years but her husband committed adultery and lied about it, calling her crazy, for a year and it was another year of horribleness off n on from him during their recovery time ( she wanted to save the marriage anyways, but esp. since they have 4 kids at home, among other considerations). If you wait until you know everything you could ever know, about them or how it's going to go, you'll be dead by then. Yes, by all means know their character, beliefs and convinctions, relationship with God and if they've weathered storms, tests, & temptations b4 and how well, and what they've learned, how they've grown. So, to do that, on average you need to get into your 20s a lil ways and take time in dating, while keeping it celibate. That's a challenge but it can be done, and grows you. Developes that necessary character, for one. My friend & her husband hadn't saved sex til marriage, btw, and he hadn't been a Christian long so his past had none of that experience either. She actually had no reason to trust he could resist temptation if it ever came. ( Not picking on either of them, and even we who've always resisted in the past can easily just give in one day. Also, there's another level of test with being tired of being the resistant one all the time). To conclude, either you base your values and morals on a higher authority, God, or there is nothing but do whatever you want (nothing matters, even rape and murder then). If u do base it on God and His word, then read it more. Know Him more. Learn to fear, love & trust Him above all things, which will lead you to love your neighbor as yourself, which will lead you to not helping anyone else to sin or giving your child parents who don't honor nor trust God, or have self control ( not saying lack of self control is in play in your case, with your reasons). Trusting God to care about the most important things in your life you live in and for Him, like marriage & the one you marry. To bring you the one He will use to love you AND challenge and grow you, for both of you. To be enough for you during rocky times that give you reasons to feel tempted by these philosophies.

This show was addictive. I finished it over three nights of incessant time with the iPad. The matchmaker herself has great advice. Christians need someone like her. I could envision one for Catholics, for example. How are people of faith to find each other, in this chaotic world? It won’t be through an app, that’s for sure.
@chaptermasterpedrokantor1623
I've tried a matchmaking agency. Overall I didn't think their service was bad, but you can only work with the material that you have. And Western society produces broken people. And what good is having a good matchmaker if you're not going to listen to them? The agency always advised their clients to go on multiple dates, at least three before making a judgment. Kinda like the date them till you hate them advice. That only happened to me once. EVERY time the women fell back on being obsessed with chemistry from the get go and finding flaws to disqualify men. With that mindset you're in for a lot of work. Maybe it works better if you use matchmakers for young people, who don't come with the emotional baggage and dating habits that older people do.

She does extensive due diligence and information gathering and gives them sound advice on how to actually build successful, meaningful relationships and marriages. She’s supportive, warm, deeply religious but non-judgmental, and holds steadfastly to her values. It’s surprisingly uplifting and portrays Judaism and religiosity as a positive, centering tradition and belief system rather than smearing it as shackles. The matchmaker and her husband met in America and then made Aliyah to Israel with their five children, so the audience gets to experience and explore Israel as well. About 50% of her clientele reside in Israel, the other half in the U.S. I love that Aleeza is a joyful person and respects the wide range of religious observance, preferences, and backgrounds of her clients. Hey, don't knock Indian matchmaking! I had an Indian dentist who told me her parents' marriage had been arranged and that they'd been joined at the hip ever since. A young Indian guy who ran a smoke shop where I used to buy lottery tickets took me into his confidence when his parents were working on possible brides. He'd been given photos and had fallen hard for one of the candidates. He went back to India to meet her and see if they were compatible and they were ultimately married. He was on the phone with her once when I came into the store and insisted I talk to her ("I told her all about you!"); he also explained to me that when young couples have problems, the parents help to work things out. He ended up moving to China for some sort of business opportunity which I hope worked out for him because I think of him every time I go into that store. Considering the current divorce rate, I'm not about to slam a system that, it seems to me, has at least as much chance of succeeding as choosing one's own. I imagine, though, that things can get humorous along the way, at least to outside observers.

Most middle class Indian ps would assign more value to MARRAIGE than those in the show. Also show is somehow edited towards their wealth. Honestly parents do play important role but not always initially. First you meet the girl or boy through profiles, online or offline. Then the parents are involved of both want to move ahead. And that’s more practical these days as well. It seems teh matchmaker in Jewish version is much better, would love to watch that one. She knows her traditions and is not just some judgemental aunty like Seema.😂

I love the back and forth between Ben and the producers, we need more of that! As a Conservative Catholic, I understand the Orthodox Jewish point of view on marriage. We have different rituals and different religious currents, but the ideal is the same: the one you choose to marry and build a family with BECOMES your soulmate. I'm with Captain Riker here. I visited the Holy Land once, an incredible experience. We were staying at this big Jerusalem hotel with an enormous lobby, and a young couple was sitting at a table in a large open booth. We asked them if we could sit there, and the young man said, politely: "Sorry, it's a private conversation." OK, that made sense: if only more people were this frank in the West! Then our guide, a Catholic Arab, privately told us that they were Orthodox fiancées, and that this was a part of courting. That made even more sense to me, and I actually envied them. Much love!

Who says Modern Orthodox (MO) are less committed to learning that the more "frum" varieties? IMHO, this confuses social/behavioral categories with religious doctrine. I think ben is referring to those whose social behavioral category could more accurately be described as closer to "social Orthodox" or "traditional". Ideally, a difference between modern Orthodox and frummer types might be that MO is also interested in the best of the "high" Western culture (for example, Mozart, Duke Ellington, Shakespeare, the Sopranos, Tolstoy and Tom Wolfe). Good examples might be Rav Aaron Lichtenstein, OBM (PhD. Harvard, English Lt) and Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, (PhD, Oxford/Cambridge/Kings College, Philosophy),OBM). TBH, I'm a slacker in both types of learning.
