I didn't take the ending as he felt Batman needed to change to be hope for the city. It was hinted at at least twice that Bruce Wayne needed to do more. So I feel the ending is the start of him developing his Bruce Wayne identity.

Am I wrong to think that the reason there is no separation in the character of Batman and Bruce Wayne , is because of it being year 2 into the existence of Batman and Bruce hasn't learned to balance between batman and bruce wayne
@solparadox

Thank you for this comment. I was about to make a similar one. And you are right. This is year 2 batman. Batman and bruce are the same because he still. Hasn't figured out that not just batman can do everything, he also needs to be the billionaire bruce who is a philanthropic playboy, while fighting crime as batman. And we see him learning that in this movie. Towards the end we see him saying I need to inspire people as well.

I thought the same thing but at the same time he was raised in a type of lifestyle that he would’ve had some type of etiquette that would resemble Bruce Wayne and they really didn’t have a chance to show it. It’s not that Bruce Wayne isn’t there it’s that the only time he’s out in public as Bruce is at a funeral and at Penguins night club confronting Valconey where it really wouldn’t matter how he acted that much. Now if they showed him at a fancy dinner party or some fundraiser then that would make more sense where he would have to be charming and sophisticated to separate his persona from Batman

I can see Ben's critiques but I think he kinda failed to understand the character of Batman here. First off this isn't an origin movie, we've already seen that told a million times. What I like about this movie is that it really immerses itself in Bruce's psyche as Batman and how he is still trying to fight crime and become a detective. He has yet to realize he needs to keep up the good and philanthropic Bruce Wayne image, and instead of being vengeance, be justice as Batman. His detective skills are rusty af, apart from figuring out the riddles he failed to notice the bigger picture or even figure out who Riddler was.
@Splinter07
@Splinter07 2 года назад
Yes, Ben is just different. He thinks that he's infallible (I'm okay with the fact that he doesn't understand Batman) but if he's insulting the filmmaker because his expectations and POV was not met just loses all credibility and professionalism. And he's not the only one who thinks that way which confirms that this movie won't be for everybody. You have to really dive deep into graphic novels to understand Batman in its entirety and be open minded since Batman was iterated a lot in different ways whether it's good or not it's up to you to judge but if the core of who Batman and everything around him is still there then It's easier to embrace new point of view.

Matt Reeves himself stated that the Bruce in this movie hasn't yet acknowledged how useful his Bruce Wayne persona is. Its even in the final stages of the movie where he realized he needed to be a ray of hope to Gotham instead of being a vengeful creature of the night, being a terror to evildoers all the time. His philanthropic and humanitarian side will develop further on in the sequel.

Ben thinks that Batman is an older wiser Batman in this film and he clearly is not. He ref. Comics several times, well if he actually liked comics he would know this is very faithful. I think Matt Reeves is a fan of Batman which is why he took many of the fan favorites from graphic novels such as The Long Halloween, Batman:Year One, Year Two and integrated them into the film. The pacing is definitely something that can be argued but I think that is a much larger issue of theater going versus home viewing. It has more to do with attention span and the comfort of your local cinema or the quality of your home theater.

@@aryzen2781 Shapiro makes weird connections that seem to ignore the obvious. Most of us understand where this Batman is supposed to be in his tenure as The Bat (Shapiro doesn't apparently). Year 2 he's still learning and growing. His revelation at the end isn't anti-Batman it's just him learning about how he can be better. He's still honorable and honest the entire time, he stops Catwoman and gives her a speech about not crossing the line. There's a number of line crossing lines about cops as well. They've set up a journey where he starts off not believing in himself or what he can do, but he's going to gradually take up the proper mantle and start to make a real difference and defeat evil. We all know the origin/motivation already and it's obvious the intention of the director is NOT to show the pearl scene allllll over again. But Shapiro brings it up as a major complaint for some reason.

Not wrong, he interpreted it in his own way. We all perceive things differently. I don't agree with him, and I don't think he is much of a Batman fan in terms of the comics, but that's just how he felt which is fine.

@@riseofazrael It is wrong, they director and actors literally explained the premise as a developing Batman as the OP and @Bradford Rusick said, Year 2 Batman. Takes all thunder from the rant away from the get go. Ben's points are moot because this is what they were trying to convey. There's nothing to interpret because they set it up this way intentionally. Ben spoke from a place of ignorance.

Ben’s take on it is way over the top. Nowhere in the movie did I feel he was going to stop fighting crime. It’s a change in perspective for how and why he exists - his fighting crime has more purpose than just simple maniacal, repressed anger. He gets it so fundamentally wrong it’s hard to take it seriously.

I think they explain why Bruce and Batman are both the same and both are brooding with the ending of the film where he realizes he needs to be MORE. He needs to be something else. He can't just be brooding and violent. He needs to be uplifting and create hope. If there is a sequel, he will have grown up and realized he needs to do more as Bruce AND Batman, in different ways though.
