I'm admiring my Spyderco Para 3, which was rescaled with Rick's scale's RC Custom and bladed by Greg at Gersh Blades. It's a thing of beauty. Thanks to two nice guys.
People get the 940 wrong. Just cuz it doesn’t slice tomatoes doesn’t mean it can’t cut. If you put the right edge on it & keep it razor sharp it’s a beast at cutting! But it’s made to cut thru tough materials. Not tomatoes. Strictly a beast of a workhorse ina slim package. It’s hard to beat. I’ve done it all with my 940 and always asks for more! Great video 🤙🏼
I've heard that Benchmade has been tweaking their heat treatment to bring out the best attributes of every blade composition. That being said, they still have the occasional flier, prices are disproportionate for nearly every model, "the Narrows, for example " I've never had an issue with Spyderco knives, but that being said I've never had an issue with Benchmade either aside from the prices. Good video, Erica. Thanks
I think you nailed it (no, not someone's Mom, E...get your mind out of the gutter!) when you noted that the main difference between a "regular" factory 940 and a Custom Shop 940 is primarily the attention to detail. A possible analogy would be a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar. A "regular" Fender American Strat made in their Corona, CA factory, IS a nice guitar, but was assembled by probably 50-100 people on an assembly line. However, a "Custom Shop" Fender American Strat, from that same Corona, CA factory, was assembled by exactly 13 people (whose names and bios are listed on their website!), so the attention to detail is MUCH higher, and therefore, the quality of that is guitar is MUCH greater...even though both guitars were assembled from the exact same parts. Of course, the price of a Custom Shop Strat is much higher too. Great video, Erica!!! ❤
Osborne also designed the Benchmade Barrage. It was my 1st benchmade, it is assisted opening but i took out the coil spring. It opens and closes just like a normal axis lock.knife now. The 940 is a nice edc for the working man or woman.
I got a G10 940 from REI about a year ago for $140 because they were on discount, I also got a bugout for $120 6 months later as well. It’s still possible to buy an affordable benchmade, you just need to wait a while.
If I was to get a 940 it would have to be the custom shop just because I love the open construction. It’s frustrating that some companies will make improvements to their heat treat but not tell us. We have to figure it out for ourselves. Spyderco Native 4 Magnacut today.
For those that use the begeezus out of a knife tool, like you, that custom would be a must have. Looks beautiful. Love the openness too. Great review Erica. 🤙🏻👊🏻
Thanks for this in depth review of your 940 knives, I really like the orange scales on your custom one. Take care, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Cheers!
Merry Christmas a day late. Interesting on blade differences in heat treatment or tempering. Snowed Saturday night so waiting for it to warm up to shovel.{about six to nine inches from the look of it ... YUK). Had a alpha beast in pocket for a little while Saturday.
that is very cool to hear that thier heat treat is getting better. i wore out one of each blades in my 940's in 154cm and s30v. i love the overall knife, but do not care for thier heat treat. congrats on the new one in orange!
@@ericasedc good to hear that you enjoyed that video, and thank you for the kind words about my channel! i have watched a couple of your videos now and have enjoyed them also. keep up the good work and if i can help you out with knives or sharpening or something just ask :}
Hi. The Benchmades I’ve bought in the last year or so, have been perfect. I’ve been very lucky so far. I’ve bought 3 minis and 3 original ones. Plus my 940 and 2x 945’s.
I love my og 940 and still carry it everyday with my soddy jr. Im working on acquiring a super tinker to pair with them as well as a Case trapper with either cv or cs blades like my grandpa carried to round of my collection.
I just noticed that the custom shop scales have a little bit of a redesign - they took away the fake bolster - but the standard 940s still use the old scales. It looks like with the blade closed the g10 is a little slimmer near the blade stud. I wonder if they wanted to give a little better access to the studs.
I love my knives and personally own a lot of Benchmade!...I would prefer to purchase an American made product!....Yet there prices are becoming increasingly obnoxious! ...If there going to compete and hopefully they will cause I personally like Benchmade knives!....They need to move to T8 hardware and make sure there quality as far as blade centering and factory edges and action are on Point!
I fought the 940 until the 9400 came out. Now I can’t talk myself into carrying anything else, I have tried. I pretty much just watch all your knife videos now because my mom thinks you’re hot.
