940 and 535 are my edc work knives. I cut everything with my 940. Drywall. Tiles. I use it as a chisel. Paint can opener. Screwdriver. Scraper. You name it. I just trimmed about 50 roof shingles with it because I didn't have my razor. Lol. You can't beat the form factor. One handed. Good length blade. Solid tip.
@@bravo1IsixI It was designed for hooves on horses. So yeah... Not a working knife at all. A one handed, 3+inch blade in a slim package with a beefy tip. You must be huffing glue.
Nice review! I’m looking at this one for my next blade as I recently got a bugout and love it! I want something a little sturdier for certain tasks. It would be cool to see you out this one through a little action. Good luck w your channel! I hope to see more from you soon
I have a couple dozen pocket knives and I would change them up in my EDC, depending on how I felt and what I was doing that day. Then last year I got a 940, and now that's all I carry.
Excellent review my man, just ordered the 940 yesterday. They’ve been on my radar for a long time but the price always held me back, finally said screw it! Lol
I've had mine for 2 years and couldn't picture owning any other EDC at this point. I hope I never lose it because that'd be the only way I would part ways with it at which point I would go out and get another.
I just bought this knife and I'm in love with the titanium purple backspacer, it's way more beautiful in person and the aluminium doesn't feel chalky or bad like other reviews said. I just pulled the trigger had to have it kinda reminds me of the joker with the green and purple lol hell ya
I saw this one at bass pro today and after years of wanting a 940 I got the model you have here. I got home and looked at it and saw the purple liner. I didn’t know it had that and fell in love with it even more once I realized that!
i have this knife and the cheaper version 940-2(?) so i just watched the video to see if i liked your review. i did and subscribed. not everyone is good at reviews on youtube, but you are a welcome, talented resource!
This review shored up some hesitance, I swore I was going change it up after a decade. Axis lock and Spidey Hole won the day. It is the locking mechanism and fidget factor that keeps me coming back. Got 2 Griptillians (M4 & S30V), PM2 and a PM3 (both S30V) and all of them are Black finish. I pulled the Fathers Day card and got the 940 S30v (1st Satin) Green Aluminum basic on the way. So thanks on the video.
I can’t believe I finally bought the Benchmade 940 Osborne knife. I have a collection of about 200 pocket knives and my typical use for them is … a letter opener, a package opener, a nail file, etc. I can’t wait for it to arrive.
man... great review... honestly made. i have it, i love it. never reviewed it. but i should! great job, buddy! greetings from cologne, germany arthur brehm
is it normal for the axis lock to make a clicking noise when the blade is slowly opened, right about the point the axis lock reaches it's lowest point?
@@johnagen3688 still love it. I went on a Benchmade buying spree & bought 7, one for each day of the week lol. It’s still my favorite followed by the 940 mini and the full size Adamas.
What would u say to a guy looking to buy his first benchmade EDC the I’m so close to getting a 940 and I’ve heard nothing but good things about it my only concern is I have large hands so I want to make sure it will fit comfortably in my hands and by comfortably I mean all my fingers should fit on the handle I don’t want my pinky handing off the end lol also I want a very functional knife so will this put up with lots of use? I was looking into the crooked River but I really don’t want to drop $300 I’m more comfortable in the $200 range
Just picked one up, store gave me 20% list, $185 + tax.... THRILLED!!! Can't wait to cut something up! The edge is ridiculous, never though a knife could be made that sharp
Obviously you understand that your only negative is not really a negative about the knife itself! Your hand is (borderline) to big, that’s not the knives fault! Great review on an awesome knife, love mine!
Just pulled the trigger on this knife and agree a 100% with your points, except the handle being too small. If I'm gonna do such heavy cuting I'll bring a fixed blade. Great knife love it and can't put it down
Looking for an Axis Lock Benchmade for breaking down critters (elk, deer,) in your opinion, would this be a knife you'd recommend? Was looking at the Bugout, but it seems a bit small (footprint-wise) as I have large hands! Thanks!!
You dont need an auto with the way the action is on this thing. Only other knife I would be interested in would be their balisong but that's for another day.
I've sent my 940 back to Benchmade twice now because the Omega springs failed. It's the Achilles Heel with Benchmade folders although the warranty is beyond reproach. Living in the UK, it meant that I was without my knife for over sixteen weeks in total. I've still got my 940 and I carry it often, but I'm always aware of the unreliability of those weak springs. For that reason I also have an Endura in my car.... just in case.
@@Sunbear415 It's weird. I've also got a Griptillian, a Mini-Grip, a Contego and a 710, and none of those have had the slightest problem. Just the 940.!!
You don’t get much more versatile and quality an EDC as this. Don’t let the price fuck you up.. there’s CRK knives twice this price that aren’t as versatile (in my humble opinion).
The 940 is one of my favorites. Two things slightly bug me about it. First, you should keep it SHARP…hair splitting sharp. The cutting geometry just isn’t all that great. It’s pretty thick behind the edge. Secondly, I wish it came in more steels…there are what, maybe 3-4 variants, tops? The Spyderco Manix is another favorite of mine and I’ve been able to get it in s30v, Cruwear, M390, Spy27 and CTS-204p. That’s not even the end, either. It’d be nice to see benchmade branch out a bit. They do really well with their m4 and Cruwear in my experience.
Im 18 now. Saved up and bought one with my dad at sportsman’s warehouse when i was 14 and beat the ever living shit outta it. I lent it out and got it back with chipped tips and rolled edges and a simple lansky sharpening kit brought it back to new every time. Love the knife, you really gotta try to break it if its gonna break.
I love the 940 but don’t have $200 for a pocket knife. I compromised and bought the Firebird 7562 which is modeled after this iconic knife. On the plus side the entire knife is about 10-15% bigger than the 940 and only 25-30% of the cost. Of course it’s only 440C steel and comes in Carbon Fiber instead of aluminum, but bottom line is it fits my hand and my budget. If I do get a BM one day it will probably be the Grip. Thanks for the review of this classic. 👍🏻
I understand being in a budget but please don't buy knock offs from China that are stealing others ideas, there are many cool cheaper original knives out there or just pay the bill and get a real one
Yes. I just got a bugout and have opened and closed it whenever watching TV and after a week it's so smooth. It came stiff but you just need to break it in.
If you can get manufacturers to start sending you knives to review and test, I believe you'd be one of the best knife reviewers out there. I say that just by the way you talk and carry yourself. Now, I love my 940. It was the first benchmade I got and the one I've eyed for years, along with the Infidel(which was my second benchmade). Seen a lot of people in my squadron get the choice of getting issued an assortment of multitools and knives for deployments. Because we were Civil Engineers. Gerber, benchmade, sog, leatherman. All three of my deployments were canceled do to my window of deployment. I just wanted the choice of getting issued a 940! I never wanted to spend that money on a knife. Then, I got into edc. Finally bought the original 940 sbk. Put camo micarta scales and a purple micarta backspacer on it, thanks to Custom Scales Division of Germany. Now I have the 9400 auto on preorder. I'm gonna use the 940 I have now as a beauty queen for date nights lol. My 9400 will become the workhorse now. I just have to figure out how to use the blade on my Infidel now.
Tray in Croatia luck they are Benchmade and Microtech dalers and price of Ultratech bronze Dead Card i pay 420€ but 940 Benchmade cost 200€ go on sight of dealers and luck that is yust too much.
Had mine for like 6 months now, it's everything you need and nothing you don't. It may not slice quite as well as something like a Spyderco Paramilitary 2, but it gets the job done all the same. The only area this blade is no good for is "TaCtIcAl FoLdEr" which is a fucking stupid set of criteria anyway, this knife isn't cheap, but it's worth it.
I think I upset the guy at Bass Pro the other day. I look like a bum, but I went in and bought a 940 Osborne and a Freek. No credit. His whole demeanour changed after I said I wanted them both.
Anybody ever get rip-offed on Amazon buying a either a Benchmade or Spyderco and getting a counterfeit? Or should I stick with BladeHQ or other knife sales site even if it costs more?
Ah man, I just have to stop watching 940 clips. Just got a 550 Griptilian 20cv for a couple of weeks, which I like, I really like, but then I think this 940 looks way better and has the same cutting edge length. S30v doesn’t bother me, I like it on my para 3 so ........ Ah wel, next bonus is already spent I guess 😉
Got one on the way. Word to the wise, benchmade only honors their warranty on knives bought through authorized dealers so be careful buying one online.
My grandson bought one and I like it so I got one . In the first week the omega springs let go . Send it in, about ten days later it was back Then their political views became known. So i put it down ,but as of late I started using it again . I edc a small sebenza so it has tough competition. This little knife is a great edc period. The blade is very useful and being thin it cuts well. Mine came sharp and centered. On those pesky springs I found some on eBay and l layed a set back for cheep insurance. Great knife , average company. Your review was done well and I signed up.
Benchmade as a marketing company is garbage. They used the balisong community to popularize their brand, then switch over to small folders to save money with maximum profit. They never listen to the people of what they want, more of do their own thing and they've lost a lot of their original fans which helped them get to where they are today.
