You mentioned that the knife was not "high carbon steel." It actually is high carbon (stainless) steel. Most of us know what you were trying to say, and my intention is not to call you out. Just clarifying for the people who are new to the qualities of steel and cutlery. S30V is about 1.45 % carbon versus about 1 % carbon for 1095 or O1 tool steel.

My sheath cut after a few weeks I do edc it everyday. I added a piece of leather around the section, and some plastic facing the other way for now

WRT cutting the sheath: I put a little bit of epoxy inside the sheath where the knife blade might cut the sheath. Five minute epoxy. Five minutes work. Sheath has never been damaged by the blade.

Love the knife, but the sheath foot sliced open the first day I I carried it. I called Benchmade and they sent me the kydex sheath free of charge. Love Benchmade.

What is your opinion on the SOG Seal Pup.

Say Heah Eugene, Years ago I bought my Benchmade Bushcrafter #162 when they first came out. I bought it from DLT, Jason surprised me with a First Production Run #299 out of 500. I bought it for $170.00 What's nice it's the very 1st. Production Run for this knife. Teaming it with my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet is a perfect match. I also add my Wicked Tough Saw which I can carry it in the open position which is very helpful when setting up. I recently added my C. S. Ultimate Hunter Folder and I always bring my Gerber Multi Tool when I use this set. A real complete set-up when I go on my Afternoon Delight's, Hikes and Harvesting Fatwood. I do use my 17" Hultafors Bruks Agdor Hatchet which I carry it in one of your Axe Holster's with this Knife. I also use my fast cutting EZ KUT WoW Folding Saw sometimes with this set. Regardless of which combo I go with our Benchmade Bushcrafter #162 is a great knife on its own. I totally understand why we like our #162. Oh, when I use this knife, sometimes I exchange my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet for my Bark River Golok, with the Ghost Green Jade G-10 Handle in A2. I use the Golok as my Summer Long Knife. It Chops, and Baton's great and it's Lite but a Awesome Chopper but still a great clearing Machete type tool in my Brambles Country. It actually color matches great too.,,.p

Hi, for bushcraft knives to be used in long trips in nature I rack meals on well-treated 440c steel and fairly easy to sharpen or this S30VN steel longer durable but harder to sharpen? let me know what you think, thanks to Michele.

Great review. I love my knife. It’s of great quality. But at $270 I have a tendency of babying it. I feel more comfortable beating up a $20 machete.

The dangler is a must have for this knife, without it, it rides real high and interferes with my pack and hard to deploy. I bought one from JRE leather but I didn't like the fact that I had to take my belt off every time to slide the sheath in. Yours has at least a button where I can detach it from my belt without having to take my belt off. Would be better of it was a snap closure instead of the button. I ordered mine today from Amazon, too bad I didn't see your review earlier. I would've gotten that instead of the JRE leather version.

Say Heah Eugene, Yeah I remember when you first got your BM Bushcrafter #162, I have a 1st Production Run, it's one of my all time favorite bush craft knife, but this weekend I took my new Rodent 5 and the Rodent 3, so far I'm very pleased I didn't buy two knives that are reduntant with my Ratmandu and my Rodent Solution, the Rodent 3 is a tank and it looks like it will be my favorite 3" blade what a tank, fills my hand great and I wear a large glove, but I also brought my Blind Horse Bushcrafter instead of my BM Bushcrafter #162, the handle seems more familiar than the handle on the BM which is actually a good handle and when I use it alot it has great control and no hot spots on my hand, but the simplicity of my B.H. Bushcrafter I had the handle thinned down and polished, a very simple looking knife that actually looks great to me more classy with what I did to it, I think so, and preforms great, I also took my standby's my Wicked Tough Saw and my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet, we're having a great time testing my knives, so I got to go before the battery is used up, Thanx for sharing one of my Fav's.

I love this knife. Quite expensive for what it is compared to my Mora knives, but wow. Get one while you can.

Has anyone used this knife to process fish (scaling/gutting etc.). I do a lot of that on my over-nighters.

Great knife I own two, but the sheath is crappy after a little use. So buy a second sheath.

What's the best thing to use for sharpening this knife in the field

The plastic insert is the worst part of the sheath. Take it out and you're good, as it doesn't really protect the seams and always makes it difficult to put it back in. But the knife itself is really excellent.

You have to use and abuse it to give an effective review of a knife. A review is not just looking at a brand new knife out of the box and reviewing its features. That is an unboxing

I got the shrade foe for that

They need to make this knife in a 6.5" blade version... I know they make the Arvensis with 6.5" blade but thats a tactical knife.... They don't offer a 6.5" blade bush-crafter type knife.... They need to make one to compete with the ESEE-6

I am kind of interested in that knife and I would like to get a high quality knife . The problem is, i lost my last 3 knives and even though they where compared to the benchmade 162 quite cheap it really hurt though. Have you also ever lost a knife and what do you do in order to prevent something like that from happening? Greetings from Germany from Paul.

Oh, By tge way, the Frog that attaches the D-ring to your belt makes a world of difference carrying this knife as a belt knife, No question you actually need that, I'm surprised Benchmade didn't supply that, At first I felt I got robbed, but then I called them and they just don't supply a Frog, But once you get one, I even like the sheath much better, Like I said, It's one of my Fav's now, , ,

If Benchmade would one day make this knife with carbon steel I'd get it ASAP!

Say Heah Eugene, Yeah, I'm still liking my Bushcrafter #162. I did shaped my handle perfectly centered, very lightly and it didn't take much at all, But everything is centered perfectly. I really like to Lite Carry it. I teamed mine up with my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet and my Wicked Tough Saw. I guess I'm just ready for my afternoon delights. I also have a very lite carry that I put together with my Mora 2000 and my Mora Hatchet with my Bacho Laplander. When I go Lite. I just use my Haversack, But with my more robust set, I go with my Kodiak Gearsling. But pretty soon I'm going to need a bush whacker to get though the brambles, In early spring, I use my Wilderness Pal Premium with the leather sheath. I also got a real genuine British Army Issue Clasp pocket knife, I can untangle paracord I use to set up my tarp with the Marlin Spike, But it has a nice can opener for my pork and bean's, yeah, it's a good one. Anyhow, It's nice to see you again, Ciao,.,..

Good review. It's funny how everyone seems to find these nice little saw cut pieces of wood lying around everywhere... See it's funny, but where I come from, when I'm in the woods, the only wood I'm gonna find is not gonna have those nice fancy little saw cut ends... More than likely it's either going to be wood I found on the ground, pushed over a dead standing tree, or broke dead branches from a tree. And it's these pieces of wood that I would have to baton... Because if you have the saw, then there is no need to baton in the first place. RU-vid "how to split wood with a saw". Anyways, nothing against your review; I did like it. I just get a kick out of how everyone always seems to demonstrate a knives battening abilites on nice prissy little saw cut pieces of wood and not the type of pieces one would ACTUALLY be using in the wild to save themselves.

Love the knife, but what is it with Benchmade constantly cheaping out on things all the time? In this case the missing dangler. This isn’t the only knife they pull that crap on and it’s annoying as hell.

Say Heah Eugene, I still use my Bushcrafter 162 and I got a leather frog before I net you, Yeah the Dangler Carry is alot better to carry, Yeah, I like the sheath alot too, Just make sure your sheath comes with the plastic insert to protect the blade from cutting through. ,, .

You don't know bleep about a knife until after you put it through the wringer. The handle has hot spots for most people. The blade is hard to push cut through wood even when hair poping sharp. The saber grind just doesn't work out on this beast to get you the most work done for the least time and effort spent. Rust resistant and tank tough? Yes. Kind of short in my opinion for a froe and I prefer a square tip on them. You can get a Buck froe for a lot less than this knife. Each to their own.

Huge fan but it sounds like you contradicted yourself you said you had the knife for a year and you liked the sheath, then your other video you say the sheath is not good and buy MY SHEATH sheath instead.

Maybe change the name of this vid from “Review” to “Description”. Or shorten it from almost 15 mins to the last couple mins where you actually use it to baton a piece of wood.

I just hate to see batoning. Knives are not made for that. No real outdoors person goes deep into the woods without an axe or a portable saw. It may demonstrate how tough a knife is, but it's not using the right tool for the job.
