This is one of the best Benchmade knives being currently produced; a perfect backpacking blade.
You'll see the Bugout is ultra lightweight, features excellent steel, is fast into action, has perfect colorations, is affordable, and has a perfect pocket clip. All TNPrs should add a Bugout to their EDC knife collection. I pair it with a good tactical blade in my EDC. Great job Benchmade on this one.

hey man another great review. i got this knife a few months ago to help compensate for the weight of carrying a balisong on me, and no matter what i will never leave my house without this knife. just everything about it just makes me happy. it feels like it just gets lost in your pocket because that amazing weight and size. i wanted to wait for you to do a review on this knife but i just had to jump on it when i seen the green version. keep up the great work man.

I instantly loved this knife when I bought it 3 months ago. I would never see it as an outdoor knife but for EDC it's absolutely perfect. I literally use mine 50 times a day, and it's still as sharp as the day I bought it.

Been wanting this knife for months and was hoping for a review from you. I broke down and bought it three days ago after about a month of going to the store and looking at it at least twice a week. I love this knife. The weight is so perfect. It really works for my edc. Great review that really confirms how awesome the bugout is.

I've had Kershaws and CRKTs, basically knives that capped out around $60, and finally took the plunge on the 535. Does not disappoint. Ridiculously sharp out of the box.

This knife is good for everything. I rarely buy knives over $100, but once I tried a friend’s it was a no brainer. I’ve bought many spydercos because they have more knives under $100, and this was my first Benchmade. Hasn’t left my pocket more than a few days since I bought it over a year ago, it’s an incredibly well designed tool. I use it for the usual everyday tasks, but I also used mine to gut a fish the other day when I forgot my fixed blade, absolutely no problem, and the skeletonized , completely open spine design means there’s lots of room between parts, so they’re easy to clean when the knife is still together. I don’t think I would even use another pocket knife I own for cleaning a fish, without taking it apart to clean afterwards anyway. The price is pretty high, the fit and finish aren’t what I’d consider premium, but they really designed a gem here.

It's rare someone would call me wise. In all fairness, I did use your sacred SAWC criteria to pick it. I got the plain satin and blue grivory handle. The first blade I have owned that when I have out, doesn't freak everyone out. (Non-tactical) Almost everyone except knife guys, thinks it's a kitchen knife. I forgot it on the kitchen counter once and my wife put it in the butcher block. Lol. I spotted the blue handle sticking out.

This was my first ever Benchmade purchase, just received mine in the mail two days ago. Axis lock is a bit on the sticky/gritty side still & I had to lube up the pivot with militec-1 and open/close it about 100 times to smooth it out. I bought the 535 as soon as I saw it in green to replace my EDC which was a Para 3 with Lynch deep carry clip, I have moved the Para 3 & PM 2 to the backpack as backup blades now that I'm working in an office. Things I love about the 535 : Weight, blade shape, color, non flashy coated blade and a small deep carry clip that barely shows (as a Canadian raised in the countryside and now living in a major city this was huge to avoid scaring all the Non-Knife people). Some small things that could be better IMO are : Grip, ergo's, fingerprints on coated blade and the action out of the box. I was stoked to see your positive review come out today, thanks for everything you do in the project from one of your long time Canadian fans!

Thank you. Just bought it from Blade HQ while watching this review. The problem with your reviews Nutn is that I nearly go broke watching them. Hopefully I can find my 940 Osborne soon, but in the meantime, I think my new Bugout 535 will suffice as my EDC blade when it arrives. I also have the Mini Aegis (thanks to your review a few years ago). Please stop the reviews, I'm going broke!!!

The drop down on the serrated part can hold the knife down on what you are cutting. Not jumping up on that fine edge that the owner is so in love with. I never owned a bench made, but it makes sense to me on the serrations. I am not a fan of them either, but that might be the way to go.

Love carrying my Bugout. Only complaint I have is for some reason, the clip gets caught on things easily. I’ve bent two during every day activities that I haven’t had an issue with with other knives including several Benchmades. Still love it!

The 2nd one has really gritty feeling axis lock and some blade play. The third was the same as the second. All in all out of the box, these need to be oiled and tightened. Purchased 1 from REI and the other 2 from turners in Cali. Anyone have these issues?
