Hi Mel, how are you? I purchased the 7 mm wooden needles and cotton yarn and tape measure, very happy with Bendigo Woollen Mills products. My favourite crochet hook is hiya hiya. I like the roundish hook rather than the sort of sharp hooks if you know what I mean lol
Hi Ginny 👋 I'm so glad to hear you enjoy the BWM products! 😃 I also really love their cotton yarns. They're so soft and have some glorious colours 😊 I've not heard of hiya hiya hooks before - I'll need to look them up now, I'm very curious! 😃
We all keep looking for the perfect crochet hook, trying all the new trends, but basically we’ve always had the most perfect hook in the Clover Amore. But, i understand the fun in trying new hooks. Guilty of it myself. I always go back to my Clovers. Thanks for the review🤗
So true! 😃 I am always coming back to my Clovers, but I just can't help trying new ones out - just in case! Imagine finding out that there was an even better hook than the Clover out there, but I never found it because I didn't try anything new?! 😲 Granted, it would have to be a pretty exceptional hook to beat the Clover, but still... I'm too curious for my own good, I think 😂 Thank you so much for watching! 🙏💗
Oh it’s Mel time! Sorry if you’ve answered, but what yarn is used in your stunning hexi cardigan? Love watching your videos I always learn a lot as a new crocheter ❤
Hi Laura 👋 Thank you so much for your lovely comment 💓 And Welcome to the crochet community!! 🤗🥳🧶 The yarn I used for my hexi is Lincraft Cakes in Rainbow. It's an acrylic, woolblend, and is quite warm without being too heavy. I used a 5mm hook to make it, and I followed this tutorial by 'Craft and a Cuppa' ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EBKYLkmOaHE.htmlsi=xt7kyOdc0cknmcfS I hope that helps you! 🤗🧶
@@lauranicholson5176 It's not as soft as an acrylic because of the wool blend mix, but it is still lovely to work with 😊 Best of luck with your cardi! Let me know how you go with it, I'd love to see some pics if you choose to make it 😊
I am someone who can use these hooks for hours without issue. But I've mentioned previously that I personally don't have a lot of issues with hooks with it being more about the head on the hook in my case than the shaft. I do think you have a point regarding the length and tapering of this hook as my son, who crochets and is more of a connoisseur of hooks, says that despite using these when out and not taking his favourites he would prefer that they were longer without the tapering end. In which case you are likely spot on that if they made the end straight and a little bit longer they would suit a lot more crocheters.
Hi Nefraial 👋 I would love to be able to use any hook! To have that adaptability must be wonderful! Yes, the length of the hook was literally it's only draw back. The head of the hook was perfectly fine, and it worked well with the wool, I just couldn't keep hold of it. Nevermind, maybe they might lengthen it at some point, and then I can try it again 😊 plenty of other hooks out there in the meantime 😊
I love the Furls ergonomic crochet hooks. I also like the Ophire hooks. I cannot work with Boye or Susan Bates. I am getting arthritis and my hand do not hurt with the Furls.
Hi Julie! 👋 Thanks for letting me know. I have heard that Furls hooks are fantastic for people with arthritis, so I'm really glad to hear that they work well for you 😊 I've not heard of the Ophire hooks before. Are you able to tell me anything more about them? 🤔
Mel, I notice you have Clover Amour and a Tulip. Which do you think is best? The head and shaft of the Tulip is slightly different to the Clover Amour. Would you be in trouble if you swapped half way on a project? The Tulip are very expensive but feel beautiful. ❤ Yarn and crochet hooks. Ahh.
Hi Betty 👋 Oh, what a good question! Ok, well, for me, my preference is the Clover, mainly because of the shape of the grip and handle. The head and throat of the hooks are both very smooth, and they both glide through your yarn and stitches beautifully, so for me, it all comes down to the shape of the handle, and the Clover just fits my style better. The Tulips are still wonderful hooks though. Would I swap them during a project? Probably not, only because I am paranoid about the stitches changing shape - now this is probably silly because the hooks are the same size, and their heads and tips are almost exactly the same, so it shouldnt make a difference but I would still be concerned that maybe my technique might change while crocheting with a different hook so personally, I would finish the project with the same hook I started with if I could. Having said that, I know many people have had to use a new hook because the one they were using snapped, so they just kept going with a new hook and it didn't make any difference so I'm probably just being overly paranoid! 😂
I’m the opposite - I have Clover Amour and Tulip Etimo. Tulips are my go to hook, I love them. I wouldn’t swap hooks mid project, I’d be concerned about my stitches changing. I have multiple Tulips, so if I misplace one, there’s a backup hook till the original one reappears.
The handle looks like the Knit Picks Wave hooks. I have a big issue with them being thinner at the end. It feels like I'm being stabbed by the hook after a little bit. I'm sad to see that the Bendigo ones are the same shape.
Yes, I didn't realise the thinner end would bother me so much, but it really did feel like I just couldn't keep hold of the hook properly. Nice to hear I'm not the only one with this issue! 😃
@Aromagirl70 Oh yes, absolutely! I actually liked everything about the hook, except the length of the handle. I just felt like I was going to drop it, or it was going to fall out of my hand. It was odd.
If these are the same as the Knit Pro hooks (which they look the same as), then I think the yarn will drag along the metal and squeak 😢. Such a shame as I read so many reviews on how good they are.
So glad I didn’t grab one when I went there last week, looks too short for me to use and I don’t have large hands . Probably depends on how you hold it I guess. I’ll stick with my Clover Amours. 😄😄
Yeah, it's a shame because literally everything else about the hook was fine, just too.darn.short! I guess if you have a pencil grip that might be less of an issue? 🤔🧶 Love me some Clover Amours! 🍀💗
