Mmmm. Have not seen cloth bar tape since 1980’s. Perfect. Brooks pro ‘butchered’ seat...again Mmmm! As much as I love my modern bikes, very pleased to have an old steel road frame,built up with Campy. In England during the 1960’s and 70’s the ‘butchered’ Brooks B17 and Pro saddles were the result of taking the seat off the rails..shaving down and replacing with large copper rivets.Also re-shaping the back,so it was flush with the steel....I had 2 of these,which I sold to an American guy on eBay 10 years ago...

With the long history of Japanese aesthetics, the old Shimano cable sprouts confused me...they chose function over style while the Campagnolo routing made you LOVE your bicycle...like the veins under your skin, the cables running under the bar tape just look clean a right

at 3:00 ... just want to do the opposite de-flared a Soma Condor 2 but I'm a little afraid of kinking the central rise of these hi-rise ( +50mm center rise ) handles . I should definitely apply my lever differently than at the other end like you. Or simply lay the bike on its side and do what I do while waiting for instructions at the start of a criterium... i.e. sit on it.

What do you recommend for conditioning/waterproofing a new brooks, I don’t really want it to get softer or change shape. I like it how it is. I don’t want to speed up the process, but I do want to do what I can to waterproof the bottom. What’s do you recommend? Thanks!
@ultraromance
@ultraromance Год назад
7 out of 10 newer brooks are soft and will soften no matter what you do. treating the bottom with a 3 parts melted beeswax and 1 part olive oil would do the trick on the bottom, although the biggest opponent to the longevity of the saddle is getting it wet and riding it while it's wet. it simply can't be done without taking a year or more of life out of the saddle no matter what you treat it with. think of a rain ride without fenders. a plastic bag works in this scenario.
@bonbones4890
@bonbones4890 Год назад
@@ultraromance amazing thanks for the reply, yes I’ve been using a giant ziplock, but thinking of getting a randi jo cover as the coverage looks pretty good. Do you think the brooks salve would be a good option ? Or do you think it would do more to soften than waterproof? Also, have you ever tried mink oil? I know someone who swears by it, thanks again!🤙

@danmooney4162
@danmooney4162 9 месяцев назад
Not sure for this exact model but in my experience steel bars work much better if you can get hold of them. Tried it on some old alloy bars and they snapped on me after very little bending, worse still they could look fine when you bend them then crack and break under you whilst you are out riding.

Why do you wrap bartape from two direction, instead just continue from top to bottom?
@ultraromance
@ultraromance Год назад
hello there --- or aesthetics mostly. I can't stand the look of finishing tape, so this way makes everything look pleasing to my eye --- and you gotta look at your handlebars all ride, so thats an important visual composition in my opinion

I am a life long tri flow advocate. I don't pay much attention to cleaning my drivetrains (or anything else as you can see lol), but my lubing regimen is about every 60-100 miles. I don't bother wiping before or after ... never noticed a difference and when bike touring full time I could never spare a rag cuz I was wearing em all!

This bike was really easy to assemble ru-vid.comUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.
