For a more flexible adhesive, use rubber cement. Works as a permanent contact adhesive but doesn't become stiff or brittle. Even works on eva foam for the dungeon walls idea.
@SebMakesStuff
@SebMakesStuff 12 дней назад
Good note, I'm planning to do a big batch of these with a few different adhesives to figure out the best option so I'll be adding this to the list. Cheers

Polyester wadding has many uses, it's the inside of shoulder pads, or boob pads, it can be the puffy stuff inside a coat, it can be the inside of a chair cushion or upholstery, or even the inside of a teddy bear!

This is actually super interesting to know. I was wondering what it's actual purpose was haha. I want to start making some.cosplay stuff so maybe it'll come in handy there. Cheers for the knowledge drop

Great idea By doubling your width you could fold the scouring pads over the wire removing the seam line Looking forward to using these in a moving garden
@SebMakesStuff
@SebMakesStuff 11 дней назад
100% someone else mentioned this to me and I can't believe I didn't think of it myself haha. I'll definitely be doing that for my next batch, along with trying some more flexible glues
@trublgrl
@trublgrl 7 дней назад
If you want your initial cuts to match better, lay down two scouring pads, you can even glue them with something that comes apart easily, and make sure they are lined up precisely. Lay out the line you want to cut and put a steel or aluminum ruler down firmly on the line, and cut BOTH pieces at once with a sharp blade. The top edge will be exactly the same on both pieces. This works for paper, foam, foamcore, fabric, anything you want to cut and match.
@SebMakesStuff
@SebMakesStuff 7 дней назад
Yer this is the smart approach, I just find myself rushing things when I get an idea haha. I'll definitely be playing around with more clean cuts in future hedges tho. Thanks for the tips, cutting 2 at a time.is actually a obvious approach that I hadn't even thought of haha

The scouring pads alone can be stretched and teased way out, washed with dark tones, bunched and clumped to obtain a bramble hedge look; lightly flock with leafy stuff. The flexible wire idea is splendid and a good show! You may find you can get away with using lighter gauge floral wire... it is insanely tough and already painted green or brown.
@SebMakesStuff
@SebMakesStuff 12 дней назад
These are some great notes! I'll definitely try teasing out the pads. And I actually think I have some floral wire somewhere from old builds so I'm keen to give that a go aswell. Thanks for the ideas, I love the feedback on these builds so we can perfect these builds as a community so thabks for the ideas

This idea might also help hide the steam between the two pads, which IMO detracts from an otherwise very good looking result. Now don't get me wrong, this is a great project that I'll have to try myself. Just subscribed!
@SebMakesStuff
@SebMakesStuff 10 дней назад
Yer it definitely it the biggest issue. Finding a good way to cover the seam will make all the difference. There will 100% be a follow up on this project trying to fix that. Has 2-3 great ideas from commenters that I'm keen to try out
@ObsidianDragon616
@ObsidianDragon616 12 дней назад
Stopped at 2:24 to say/type this so sorry if it's mentioned later in the video. But you can just cut a wider piece of scouring pad and fold it over the wire for a more manicured look. You can also get some twigs from outside properly treat and seal them and insert 1cm - 2cm worth one every inch or so... So that it looks like bush stems going up into the bush from the ground... you may have to angel them so they stay upright. The second technique could be adapted to make X-mas-like trees. Just keep adding more wool until you have one thicker end.
@SebMakesStuff
@SebMakesStuff 12 дней назад
This is a very good idea. I'm planning to make a heap more of these trying different techniques so I'll definitely be trying it bent over to clean up the top. This video was a rush job as it was an unexpected build that worked out so there's definitely a lot of room for iteration and improvements. And I love working through these things with the community so thanks for your ideas 😁 they're going to go into the next round for sure

You could probably make some flexible walls using a similar method. Just use the Craft Foam sheets to make bricks that you glue onto a backing with wire.
@SebMakesStuff
@SebMakesStuff 11 дней назад
Yer I'm messing around with a few approaches to brick walls at the moment. What I really need is to find some flexible paint
@dragonwyrmdracodracul8361
@dragonwyrmdracodracul8361 11 дней назад
@@SebMakesStuff For flexible paint you could look into Leather paint or Latex paint (though that is more annoying to work with). Just look at stuff cosplayers use for flexible props.

Nicelydone! The back of my head says a dungeon wall could be made this way, buy mot sure how, maybe fabric...
@SebMakesStuff
@SebMakesStuff 12 дней назад
Yer I was trying to think of a way to do that myself. I'm leaning towards foam clay as it can be fairly flexible. But I'd need to die the foam so the paint wouldn't crack

Both planter types were built over the last 2 episodes. The wooden beds are in my tiny gardens video and the stone ones are in the tiny topiaries video. Also have another garden bed/water fountain coming up in the next week or 2

@SebMakesStuff

@FablesD20

@@SebMakesStuff for wood, maybe the bends are between planks. For rocks- that flexible paint over the current material?…
@SebMakesStuff
@SebMakesStuff 12 дней назад
I'm thinking of trying foam clay as it can be fairly flexible once dried. But I havnt teaates out just how flexible. I do have a few concepts working their way around my brain. Just need to have them all line up into something that might work that won't cost me a fortune haha
@kelpiekit4002
@kelpiekit4002 12 дней назад
@@SebMakesStuff If you had magnets along a flat middle bendy core you could have panels that attach that have the interesting walls. If the core is a colour that doesn't interrupt too much if it peeks through a little between the flat panels then it may work. Or you could have outer and inner curve sized panels. Easier to make a bunch of panels with a few bendy cores than a huge set of bendy walls. Plus, you can switch between wood, stone, metal, and so on as needed along the bend by switching in those panels.

Gule some wadding on the scouring pads. Should be able to hide the seam. Plus you could make hedge animals or statues. Burning hedges. Frozen hedges.
@SebMakesStuff
@SebMakesStuff 10 дней назад
That's a good idea. I'm planning a follow up video with all the ideas I've been given in the comments. So this is going on the list. Keen to nail these down with help from the community. Burning and frozen hedges could be a fun things to try aswell. I've already done the hedge animals in my tiny topiary video, and actually have a statue painting video coming out soon.
