Many people believe that “airing out” wounds and allowing a scab to form is a signal that the healing process has begun. But that isn’t true.
Cells are made of water, and survive in moist environments underneath our outer layer of skin. Cells that are exposed to the air after a cut or scrape dry out, forming what we know as a scab, but these scabs are actually setting up an environment that limits the movement of new cells.
Check out this video to learn more about the wound healing process and how moist wound healing promotes growth and movement of new cells.
