I have sage growing, I learned about it reducing menopauses' symptoms, I started drinking sage tea and my night time hot flashes have been reduced, instead of waking up with 5 flashes I am reduced to 2 times so far, amazing!!

So proud you shared all these sage benefits. I have 2 large sage bushes, and have dehydrated enough for "dressing" for the rest of my life. Was going to have my husband dig up one to make room for other herbs I don't currently have, now with all these benefits you have shared. I definitely need to keep them both, thank you so much, blessings

I harvested and dried sage yesterday . I use it for a poultice for varicosities and find it quite soothing. I do use the leaves in tea and dishes. Very flavorful and nutritious. Be careful ,though, because as with all herbs too much of a good thing can be toxic. As sage ages as a plant it will become quite woody. It is easy to propagate and makes a beautiful wreath to pick at in the winter months. I have 40+ years of researching, growing and using herbs. Sage is a favorite. Great video.

Wonderful video ! You are so right about Sage doing well in partial shade. Last year we trimmed 1 of our Weeping Cherries way up. I noticed one of my Sage plants that was being partially shaded by it was the most healthy & beautiful Sage plant I had. I didn't even think about the fact that now it was getting a lot more sun, & a few days later it was totally dead !

Hi Heidi, This was fascinating. I have one sage plant in my garden and it is under an weeping yaupon tree and only gets morning sun so I think that is why it is doing well. I was so happy to learn that sage is good for headaches. I get them once and awhile so I will try making a sage tea. And I want to thank you SO much for the book recommendation. I bought Amy’s book when you had recommended it earlier. And you are right!! It is outstanding and it is a MUST for everyone’s herb library!! Love, Mary ❤️😘❤️

I was just listening to a podcast (on Rumble) about sage, and came to see what you had to say about it. Thanks, Heidi! Interestingly, the fellow on the podcast went into the history of sage being used to help purify water. That's how many teas got started....they felt it was safer to put certain herbs in their water, to make if safe for them to drink. Pretty cool, I thought! :)

You mentioned essential oils (sage, rosemary and lavender) to rub under your nose for headaches. I have chronic headaches and was wondering how many drops of each oil to use for that. Love watching your videos, I learn so much and have started a vegetable garden and an herb garden a couple months ago. I’m pretty excited for the results because it’s my first garden.
@RainCountryHomestead

That will be very individual and I never measured by drops. Anyone trying it for the first time should use a carrier oil rather than using straight like I do (also known as "neat"). I recommend you watch this video on natural remedies for pain where I cover some of that: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V5JOC-b74gs.html

For the last 2 years I have struggled to grow sage. As soon as I plant the storebought plants in the ground it dies in less than 2 weeks. I tried full sun last year and partial shade this year. I am sprouting my own seeds right now and will try again. I am planting herbs and medicinal plants in my former flower beds this fall. Some are as pretty as flowers. The soil is probably better. Here in the deep south it is too hot and humid for some plants tho
@RainCountryHomestead
@RainCountryHomestead 6 лет назад
It could be the climate but also on thing to note is that sage does not like a rich soil. Whenever I use put horse manure around mine, they look sickly for awhile so I stopped doing that and they have really been thriving. They do not seem to mind some grass clippings here and there and leaves in the fall.

@RainCountryHomestead 6 лет назад
Though they are related, there are some major differences. Clary sage (Salvia Sclarea) has similar benefits medicinally to common sage but seems to be used most as an oil in aromatherapy for any and all hormonal issues. The plant can also be used in culinary dishes but the flavor and aroma are very different than common sage

@RainCountryHomestead
@RainCountryHomestead 6 лет назад
It should survive in the ground, likely better than in a pot as in a pot it is more exposed to the cold. Unless of course you are keeping it inside. Also, it will get huge and need room to expand and will out grow the pot eventually

Sage contains vitamin K-1, completely different from the various types of vitamin K-2.
@RainCountryHomestead
@RainCountryHomestead 6 лет назад
Yes, you are correct. I had assumed it was the whole form as it is difficult to find information that says specifically one or the other when looking up foods rich in K - they seem to keep it general. K-1 is necessary for health but not likely we are to be deficient in it as it is available in many foods, unlike K-2.
@terijean6351
@terijean6351 6 лет назад
@@RainCountryHomestead I believe the only way to get it from a vegetable is some fermented foods but no way to tell. But any woman who is wanting to have a baby or is pregnant should get plenty k2 especially if it's not her first baby as they believe it's stored in our bodies and used a lot in pregnancy (they know it helps with the soft pallet forming preventing the need for orthodontic expenses and probably braces) from what I've learned it prob helps to form healthy teeth, tooth buds and bones. Sorry this is off topic with sage.

I've done a lil research and kinda scared of using sage officinalis because it says that thujone can be toxic in high amounts. I have a plant of it growing I'm curious on how safe it is to use in teas or consuming in your expertise and how much is to much
@RainCountryHomestead
@RainCountryHomestead 4 года назад
You can look up components of nearly every plant and have some site tell you that large quantities can be toxic. You will find the same about kale, horseradish, and much more. While this MAY be true, the question really is, many of the things we are told are unsafe in high quantities are not things that anyone ever consumes in high quantity except maybe kale and with kale, I only see that as a problem if that is all the person is eating. Having a well rounded diet is important. I know people that drink a lot of sage tea and they are very healthy. I cook with sage a lot and we have had no adverse effects. So, I would not worry about it and just give it a try. Now while I personally do not care for it as a tea, I LOVE it as an herb to add to many of the different meals I make and when it comes to adding herbs and spices, I always use what some people may consider a large quantity as it is far more than more would add

One of the main purposes of my channel is to get people turned more towards herbs and healthy foods and away from Big Pharma. Maybe you have not seen my many other herb related videos or those on how we took ourselves off of 15 years of thyroid medication but I recommend you check it out. Regardless, as I said before, some gray hair IS normal as we age and should not be feared. Even the Bible mentions it as a "crown of glory", yet premature graying or graying quickly can be a sign of other health issues. I am currently 52 years old and despite the 15 year time frame of being on big pharma garbage (we have been off those for 6 or 7 years now) we are both pretty healthy people, some of that because of our choice to grow and consume our own herbs and produce. I use also use herbs for making medicinal tinctures and extracts.

Two cup daily Chaga tea and after 5-6 months your can see amazing results. Actually you look great your age. All good for future.
