Thank you for making it clear! I've been taking St John"s Wort and I love the effects, but I've been so worried about the photosensitivity, I knew deep inside there must be a wiser and more whole answer than just scaring people away from the herb like internet does and you gave it to me! Thank you;)
When they not jumping up down about deadly delusional torture nervous system damage mental health pills be scared. With out nervous system your a vegitable non thinking no senses. Going to buy su e rate now . Where sun hat . Jean jacket , Jean's, got sun hoodies long sleeves that light. In nz sun goes through cloths . Mud keeps cool better than air conditioning. Tree cover . Gonna burn any way. Lol. Great video ...
Wow best St. John’s presentation ever. Thank you for providing such wide coverage of its actions. This is gold, I finally found channel that provides concrete information . Other creators on you tube barely do any research and explain it in 4-5 min.
My problem with st johns wort, and one other person that I know, is that it causes hypertension .But this wasnt addressed. But thanks for the tips on hypersensitivity. That was also one of my problems. i had used st johns wort for years when I was younger. These problems only developed after the age of 50.
It grows abundantly nearby, so I put it in the bath or in water in a tub in the sun, and use that in my bath in the evening. I also love making an oil infusion, which I find very moisturizing and great for mild sunburns, and on days when it's grey outside! I make a tincture for blue moods. I add dried flowers and leaves to tea mixes. I have never had any adverse reactions. Thanks for the video -- good to be reminded of the other qualities, especially for the spine.
Wonderful video, very nicely done. I just started taking St. John’s wort for warding off of shingles, and can notice a difference within 24 hours I was also amazed at the balancing effect it had on my mood. Thanks for all the info!
Thank You for all information. Few years ago I made my first oil from St. John wort for massage face and body. It’s amazing product and now I can’t imagine a live without oil, tea and soak. I mixing two oils: St. John worst and comfrey for spine and joins therapy.
The plant is very powerfull , I use yo drink it as tea... But the plant is so powerfull that when you drink it you don't even feel the effects of weed or alcool.''' the woman who speak is beautyfull... Sorry for my english , I speak french.... Thank u
It is one I have avoided growing due to side effects and not really understanding it but your video has really helped, thank you so much Susan from Victoria, Australia.
I sought out your video because I recently tried a St. John's wort capsule, and felt as if I were on LSD. My brain was flooded with serotonin, my pupils were dilated. There were good effects too, but they were too much. I now wish to have more information and options.
If you can get the fresh(not dried) plant, that may be better for you. I took capsules myself for a bit, and it made me pretty ill. I've heard good things about the fresh plant which is said to have less side effects.
That's why I came here too. It makes me feel high, in a mostly uncomfortable way. I tried tiny doses, 5-10 drops, and still. Also nightmares. I don't know if it was that specific brand or what. It was Botanica brand from the health food store. It said on the bottle it can cause anxiousness in some people. I'd be interested to know the mechanism behind this.
Great video! It's nice to learn more applications for this herb! Since I have sciatic pain, I will look into using it. Thank you so much for these videos. I love them all! 💜
How long after being weaned from SSRIs can you try SJW? Specifically lexapro and wellbutrin. I had one pharmasist tell me two weeks and another tell me six days.
Just picked a few cups of flowers and buds cause I heard you can make good stuff with that, fingers are very stained. You'd think I was picking mulberries! Thanks for the video!
In my State in Australia, Victoria, also NSW, St John’s Wort is not allowed (forbidden) to be imported as a plant from the State of Queensland where it is grown. Supposedly it is a toxic or noxious weed.
Firstly, I have both your books and they are fantastic. Many of the recipes from alchemy are in our regular rotation. I use St John's wort tincture but am very interested in trying the tea. 🙏💐
Thanks so much, and I'm very glad for all this information and clarification of this plant. Sadly my mom was on several drugs for her mental disorders and she decided to self medicate with this plant and it ended very badly. Thankful she is still alive. but since then I've just considered this an herb to stay away from. I really wish I had this information sooner but sadly this happened to mom my quite a long time ago and information wasn't as easy to find. And she just listened to what some others said was working for them. Love you ch. And I love that you really help to inform us fully.
Rosalee, are you wearing... a hand-knitted sweater? ! It's beautiful, hurray for knitters! And of course, thank you for the interesting video. I can't wait to get this herb growing in my yard and infusing in some oil.
It is a hand-knitted sweater! Hurray for knitters! This pattern is called Love Note. I've made three of the same pattern this year and have plans for a fourth and fifth. I am a creature of habit. :) Enjoy SJW, such a delight to have in the garden!
what if im sitting in my office inside doing work there is no windown and im surrounded by screens and artificial lights. please elaborate on taking internally and artificial lighting details as you mentioned the tanning bed.
Thanks for yet another lovely and info-packed video! Question: is there a way to distinguish between medicinal vs ornamental varieties when the plants aren’t in bloom?
I tried some tea and was urinating all night. Drank a lot of water today and I’m not gonna lie I felt an increase in my mood but I also felt funny😂😂😂can’t tell if it’s because I’d been depressed for so long. I don’t think I’ll drink it tonight
Such a wealth of information! I was hoping you would discuss how to best make medicines with this plant. Or ways to make tinctures without a distillery. Maybe that info is in another video ... down the rabbit hole I go! 😁
Lovely yoke sweater. If you knitted it could you please share the pattern and yarn that you used? For growing in a perennial bed will Hypericum take over? I know it spreads by rhizome and sets a lot of seed.
Hi! The sweater is Rosalee's favorite Love Note pattern. How much St. John's wort takes over depends on many factors, including your climate and attention to your perennial bed. Cheers, Karin
This was super informative, thank you. I've tried St. John's Wort a few times, the first time it actually caused me to start stuttering badly for some reason...with this brand it's made with the plant matter but not any hypericin or hyperforin extract and it started working well for my mood and social anxiety but my eyes felt sensitive to the sun. I've read articles online about it saying it can cause cataracts in a lot of people but I'm skeptical about that, considering big pharma would likely tailor propaganda against herbal remedies. As long as it's not a hypericin extract I should be fine right?
@@mysticofancientheart9078 The photosensitivity fallacy it is purportedly "known to cause" was based on one single completely overblown, anecdotal incident, decades ago, involving... cows. The cows, ate a large fields worth of it and the FDA turned it into an international incident on behalf of their big Pharma pimps. And all the uneducated internet experts continue parroting the same stupidity over and over again.
I bought St. John’s wort but I’m bad about taking pills because they so often taste terrible going down or make me feel sick after taking even with food. I need to get better about taking it though and hopefully relieving some depression.
Hi, if the leaves are still vibrant, then yes, you can use them. Be 100% sure of the plant ID, of course. In this case, one key identifier (and please use more than one or two) is to hold a leaf up to the sun. Do you see perforations in the leaf? Cheers, Karin Rose
Thanks so much! Do you know long term effects on female fertility or know many women whose have had successful pregnancies after taking from time to time?
Hi, while herb-herb interactions are rare, these two both have known interactions with drugs and supplements. The Botanical Safety Handbook (the gold standard for herbal safety) gives both schisandra and St. John's wort an interaction rating of C (A is the best rating). You'd want to work with an herbalist if you take any supplements or drugs. Your health history would play a part in answering your question. Warmly, Karin Rose
Thank you for the provacative info of the herb. I suffer with many nerve related issues which stem from various levels of "crimping" of my spinal cord inpingements due to stenosis and facet joint arthritis throughout the spine.and Fibromyalgia . I have been presribed Gabapentin which i take sparingly. Also, after seeing a neural psychologist for chronic pain and chronic anxiety, she referred me to psychiatrist who prescribed Prozac. I have " self weaned" off Prozac. Still need the gabapentin because restraining of it causes me to become irritable. God damn The Pusherman, accordi g to Steppin Wolf. I learned recently the GP is almost impossible to stop according to the neurologist who prescribed it!!! Gee tha ks Doc. I should have been made aware of that important issure. Dear Lady, can i take St. Johns Wort for what ails me ? Thx for you advice. PS.... I take many supplements, too numerous to mention here without a doctor's advice. Self researched.
Another lovely video! Thanks Rosalee 🙏🏼 I am wondering, when discussing photosynthesis and St. John’s wart… I use a sun lamp in the fall and winter, for seasonal depression. I have been wanting to use St. John’s wart for SAD too, but curious if this combination too would create photosynthesis? Also if using st. J for SAD would it be best to use tea or tincture? Thank you
It is rare that the whole herb causes problems but it is a good idea to be very cautious in trying this out. So if you take SJW then try the lamp, start out with just a minute or two on the lamp and slowly increase. Both the tea and tincture work well.
