Not a flex but when I visited Thailand quite recently, I was amazed by the following things: a) the traffic in Bangkok is more time consuming or at least similar to Bangalore b) but there's no congestion since everyone follows lane discipline c) there's no honking because people trust others to ride properly and follow the rules at all times d) there's almost always a separate motorbike path e) no urgency in terms of overtaking others and crossing over lanes to do so Just saying that Bangalore traffic is much worse and the people in this city & the country don't know how to follow rules or care about how their driving/riding impacts others

Adding metros will free up space on the road, yes. But this also means that *other* people will find it more convenient to use their vehicles or book Ubers in the now freed up roads, and traffic will return to previous levels. This is called induced demand (really should be called induced traffic), which also happens when you widen roads or build flyovers. If you're wondering why traffic seems to get worse even after metros, now you know why. The solution to induced traffic is not just continue building metros, but also incentivise people to use public transport like having dedicated bus lanes, better footpaths, bicycle lanes, etc, while discouraging car use by having congestion pricing. Sadly, people will be up in arms about this. Places that have truly reduced traffic like the Netherlands, Japan or Singapore understand this the best.
@catchharish12345
@catchharish12345 Год назад
this is called blindly parroting what u see/read in the west.. all the above gyaan from the west came after a century (yes 100 years) of extensive and world class highways and transportation system... while parroting western leanings.. people forget we are a developing country and we need every bit of infrastructure for a country of a billion people with a growing economy..... comparing India with tiny weeny city countries like singapore, japan or netherlands is fool hardy. In addition we simply cannot have the kind of footpaths, bicycle lanes all the jazz mentioned above since we simply dont have the land and the population presssure is very high..
@PK-tt5kk
@PK-tt5kk Год назад
@@catchharish12345 Actually for India the current western policies are more needed in India. 1)Just have a look at the population density of Tokyo in Japan. Its pretty similar to Indian cities. Not to mention in very dense neighborhoods of Tokyo, they have is very narrow roads. 2) The amount of land in various countries is a very bad way of comparing. BECAUSE most people tend to live in cities close together. Just look at the population map of Canada, US, Australia etc. People dont live equidistant from each other but live in few major areas leaving the rest of the country pretty empty. Though yes Population density in cities of China/India is much higher. 3) No one is saying we shouldnt build roads but the question becomes how wide , and how many lanes given to what type of vehicles. Now lets look at the car. The car is the worst vehicle in a city, interms of when we think of the space taken up by a car for transporting a person. For Eg...if we compare a bus with lets say 3 cars. Now lets say the space taken by 3 cars = 1 bus. Now 3 cars at max can carry 15 people (if i take 5 in a car. But honestly you know most of the time car will have only one person). Now a bus TAKING the SAME SPACE can carry atleast 50 people so if more lanes in a road are dedicated to buses, more number of people can move through the road !!! And this number for trams & metro is even higher !!! Now lets talk about cycling/walking infrastructure. A city design for this, isnt just for some lifestyle advocacy but will have real impacts on traffic. Basically if you have a good walking infrastructure. people will tend to use it more. (For getting maybe their daily stuff or other needs) Especially thinking about shops which are in a 1km radius. Same with good cycling infra. People will use it for their daily needs ...like may be going to work/entertainment places etc etc. Especially thinking of places within 5km radius. Now why is these 2 things good ?? because if people cycle/walk more then they will not use their cars. A small cycle lane can handle far more number of people going through it then a car lane. Same with a foot path. A footpath can carry far more people then a car lane. So now lets look at an Eg. Suppose you have to build a road in an Indian city. RIght now most of the space is just given to single occupancy vehicles aka cars !!. If you look at data then half the people traveling in a vehicle really need to just go with just 5km. Now because most of the space is given to cars. It discourages people to walk/cycle. Hence you get terrible traffic. If half the space was given to footpath/cycle lane, then actually traffic will reduce on ALL LANES !!! (i.e. even car lane) why ?? for the simple reason that ....many people who were using car for short distance travel would just shift over to the cycle lane/foot path. & because cycle lane/foot path can handle far higher number of people...overall amount of traffic reduces.

Only an uninformed person would think that the current network hasn't brought down traffic. Bmtc buses are running empty to the south of the city. The IT hubs aren't connected yet, so the traffic there looks out of control and gives the perception that the traffic hasn't been eased. Once Whitefield and Electronic city are open, the traffic will drastically drop.

Good point! Once Blue Line becomes operational it will also reduce the traffic drastically on the ORR. But if someone is expecting empty roads or its gonna go the level what used to look like in 90's in Bengaluru, that is never going to happen. It didn't happen in Delhi after 350 km of metro line. It's going to be at sustainable level but far from empty roads.

To be honest , metro is not going to solve the bengaluru traffic, there has been many studies done on the this subject, as many people will prefer the mode of metro , this will not directly imply decrease in road traffic, as the numbers of vehicles on road is always on the rise, a good example is New Delhi, and Mumbai . Path to less traffic pollution is a combination of better pedestrian lanes, bicycle lanes , and OfCourse public transport system . People should be encourage to walk over shorter distance rather than take rides but this will require as mentioned people friendly lane/roads.

Somehow the Namma Metro completion is indirectly dependent on the percentage of sale of apartments which dot along the route... say for e.g:- RV Road to Bommansandra via Silk board has all top builders (OZONE, PRESTIGE, SALARPURIA SATTVA ... to name a few). It seems the rate of apartment sales reduces then the metro line which ever colour (green, purple, yellow.. etc) work delay occurs with no reason. We can build a mathematical model... and validate a correlation. The Namma Metro actually works for REAL ESTATE CZARS not for Tax Payers.

Not really -- First phase came from BAIRAPPANAHALLI TO PEENYA which is having least apartment - It connected Industrial area . We citizens are ready to pay anything if Metro comes and that is being uncashed -- Its free market economy -- The moment purchasing power drops , which is happening now , metro or no metro sale will not take place. Only 2 crore and above apartments sale happens which is 100 % black money market

BMRCL record has been that not a single phase of a single line has been completed on time and within cost estimate. Further last mile connectivity and parking at key stations leave lot to be desired. Airport metro construction is only starting 14 years after the new airport was opened 40-45 kms from City centre and end date is anyones guess while taxis do brisk business by burning fumes and costly imported fuel. Even after completion of airport metro, majority of flyers have to hop 2-3 lines with luggage to reach airport. That does not prevent BMRCL to launch turf wars in trying to object any other transport modes or entities. Citizens of Bengaluru have to take what little they can get while suffering daily in the roads. Hope elections and corruption money will incentivise completion of phases and lines. Sadly, the city has become world famous for traffic jams and endless wait in roads in commuting.

The project management is pathetic..... The project schedule slippage has led to overruns. Government don't have any vision. Between 2001 till date the road to ITPL from South Bangalore had seen projects like outer ring, followed by digging of roads for fly over, later digging for migraines... The tax payers money of thousands of crores is wasted.....no accountability and vision by city planners.

Trams? Why? With the kind of lane discipline that Bangalore drivers have, a tram will not be very different from an articulated bus. Trams will get stuck in traffic and thus lose their advantage over buses. Better have a grade-separated metro, and bicycle paths on bollarded footpaths leading to it.

@motog-rocks6544
@motog-rocks6544 Год назад
Half the problem is because various contractors selected went "bankrupt" half-way through the construction, for example "Simplex Infra" is prime cause for half of problems in Bangalore: 1. They delayed the on-going lines as even the BMRCL head says. 2. They were winners of tender for Phase 2 line from SilkBoard to KR Puram. After winning they went bankrupt, so re-tendering was required and pandemic came in middle. 3. They are the contractor for that Ejipura flyover and went bankrupt half way through construction that too AFTER delaying it.

Wider roads at heavy traffic points and direct flyovers are needed in the heavy traffic areas .Imagine a direct flyover from silk board to marathalli or marathalli to Whitefield or kormangala to bellandur etc similar to the electronic city flyover.This would drastically reduce point to point traffic
@PK-tt5kk
@PK-tt5kk Год назад
Unfortunately widening roads will not reduce traffic. As when you widen a road...more people start using cars meaning again you get traffic. Only way to reduce traffic is public transportation !!! & building good walking/cycling infra (so that people dont use cars for short distances) The issue with cars is that they take up too much space. just think about the number of people in a bus compared to even few cars. If you want to widen roads...then they should be dedicated to buses/trams.
