Roland SH5 and MC4 I think these mid-70s filters are beautiful beyond belief What do you think? Are there any modern ones that sound like this? 😁 PS - the delay is the Roland 201 Space Echo 👍
yes those Roland are astounding in those series, system 100 also... but then i love all the roland filters ... probably my favourit... you sequence is fab !
Hi Ben. I would say no these old Roland synths have a character all of there own and it's all about that lovely aged analogue goodness that's going on inside. Love the SH5 as well as the mighty SH7 and the MC-4 Sequencer. Modern recreations are great and some get close to that old analogue sound like Roland's ACB technology , I have a system 8 and system 1 and they do sound great even if they are digital but you can't beat the real thing . The choice today of analogue synthesizers and drum machines etc today is mind blowing. Thanks for another great video and the SH5 sounds wonderful.
Thanks Steve - these old 70s Rolands were the last of the 'discrete' monosynths before Roland / SSM / Curtis came along with all their filter chips. They do sound special I think
Ya - they are rock solid for one thing. Horrible to program - I always end up with things in the data that I programmed by mistake, but they can sometimes be really cool
Nice. It's typical how much brighter it sounds then my SH 2000. maybe that's a matter of calibration but I've often wondered if this was actually inherent to the early Rolands. This seems to contradict that impression.
That was great, I'd like to see a comparison or your opinions on the SH5 to the SH7 in terms of sound character. Peter Forrest commented that the SH7 didn't sound as good. I remember trying a S/H SH7 at ABC music back in the day but budget constraints meant I ended up with a new SH2 (which I still have)..I can't really remember the sound of the SH7.
@@memetunestudio I imagine it will be done on the cheap , they put a picture up last year of the preposed sh5 with the behringer logo on - i cant stand the behringer kit i bought - the boog is rubbish - i bought the vp330 remake and its v good but i hate it - i dont even know why - its the behringer logo. I will buy the behringer cs80 remake ... i have too.
Its the main VCF being modulated with a sine wave that is kind of in time with the rhythm, but not quite, but you can only hear it happening when the cutoff level combinations are just right
