There will never be another tenor like Gigli. He had colour, inflection, tone, diction, mezza voce, forte, legato and passion. You name it, Gigli could do it. Today's tenors sound so boring in comparison.

Do not know what to say. Gigli has been sadly overlooked by those who praised Bjorling, Caruso, Schippa and even Pavorrati. Though all of these were magnificent the feeling invoked by Gigli is so heart wrenching as to be painful. Thank you Benjamino for your contribution to human voice history. Ron Denning

Bjorling is my choice above all, but I certainly don't denigrate Gigli, some pieces are his alone. I think his 1928 Mi Par D'udir Ancora is one of the greatest performances ever, almost painfully sweet.

This is a hallmark of GREAT singing I cannot but be in awe. Such mezzo voce and pianissimo, then expanding in to a full throated sound . Such singing doesn’t exist in today’s world. Bravo 👏 Gigli

His voice is electrum --- a metallic blend of gold and silver. Certainly among the most clear voices ever.

Gigli's voice production is similar to Bjoerling's, They both do not force the voice. Everything is natural and perfectly placed. The aural effect is superb.

@@hashatz What about the chopping he does in all Aida's, in Carmen, and in a few other recordings? He may not force the voice but the chopping destroys the phrasing. Bjorling certainly forces his voice in Otello and in Turandot.

@@arepo Sorry Janie but I don't see how your comment refers to me. I checked all available comments. However, I do count myself among his admirers. Listen carefully to his many recordings without prejudice; you will discover a master artist despite your observation. Throughout the twentieth century, people in the know have regarded Gigli as being among the greatest tenors.

@@hashatz There aren't many available comments to check in this thread ::smile:: My reply refers to your comment all right but perhaps I wasn't very clear. You said he didn't force. How do you explain his chopped phrasing in the dramatic or heroic moments in his live Aida's, and generally in any dramatic or heroic moments? That stop-and-go, push-and-back phrasing. This is something lyric tenors do when they sing something too heavy for them. The other explanation is you-know-what. I consider myself in the know despite living in the XXI century, not in the XX ::double-smile::

@SuperMagren the main thing is, that there were many and many great singers in that time not only Gigli, because they understood how the human voice is working and how you have to work with a natural voice for singing, and not only theoretical shit of today...there are today only a few of good singers, and how actually conservatories teach is bad! really bad... they teach you to be badly artificial, screaming, quaking, make a grimasse on the stage and not to sing with your natural voice, they put you deep inside, because they dont have taste

Wonderful compilation obviously of different occasions. At thebeginning Gigli is wearing an ordinary necktie, and later is wearing a bow tie and formal dinner suit. Nevertheless this is wonderful, exemplifying Gigli's wonderful control and vocal power. My favourite of all the famous tenors by far, and I was privileged to attend one of his concerts 74 years ago when I was nearly 10 years old.

Tante , tante volte ho ascoltato questa musiica , e , fin che avro vita l'ascloltero. Gigli ti ho sempre amato, da quando ti ho sentito , allo stadio del Pacaembu , nel lontano mille e novecento quaranta sei qui a San Paolo Brasile .

@@lorenzpaulinho1154 Pavarotti is soooo far behind. Pavarotti couldn't dream of having such head voice. And Gigli's chest voice so much clearer and more powerful than Pavarotti's. And I don't say that to diminish Pavarotti, he was a great leggero in the beginning of his career, but Gigli was a god.

Excelente interpretación en la que se puede apreciar las cualidades del tenor, mas aun teniendo en cuenta que en esa época no se disponía de la tecnología sonora de hoy.
