Of all the songs Benjamin sings, this one touches me the deepest. The lyrics are poignant, to be sure, and the keyboards draw the perfect mood, but it is the desperation in Ben’s voice, the determination to set life and relationships right again, that cause an ache in my heart, having struggled through the bitter loss of a precious friendship. There is another version out, called Indigo, but it just doesn’t evoke the burn of emotion; doesn’t make my knees want to buckle, like this recording does.
i absolutely understand what your saying. i love when a singer can evoke so much passion into a song like Ben does with "wake me up" The sense of smell is powerful to bring up memories with strong emotion, but when you hear a song, when the music is just right and the story and the voice of the singer come together in that all perfect blend, it just attaches to your emotions like nothing else can. it's because Ben had that passion in his soul that he could sing a song like this and make it touch you the way it did. some other singers possibly, maybe none, could have brought this song and made you feel like you do from it. some people have it, most don't, Benjamin had it in abundance.

I love this one so much. Benjamin's vocals are, as always, infused with Benjamin juice, adding so much emotion and character to the song. And the instrumentation is on par with something you might have heard on The Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour album with that slinky, psychedelic groove.
Argh! Noooooo! You can't ever put our beautiful Cars men and the crawly dung beetles near each other - so many don't know Lennon frequently beat the cr*p out of his first wife Cynthia (and other women, he later confessed) and he abused Julian horribly, even as a little boy. So the dungs can take a jump. No offence intended moodylicious - but I loathe Lennon for what he did and apart from Paul, possibly - who wrote Hey Jules (original title, for Julian, then aged 5) - and tried hard to comfort and stick by Julian. On principle the others should have ousted Lennon, or they were as guilty. Our guys - our Cars beautiful, wonderful men on another plane, another planet, a millions miles above. Musically incomparable. And sexy beasts too
Great song sung by the great Ben Orr. Still puzzled how this didn't make it on The Cars first album. Much better than "My Best Friend's Girlfriend" IMO.
