Hi John I would have to disagree with you on this one as I owned two silver pigeons in the past an early model a latest model and now own a 692 sporter and the overall handling and weight balance is the difference between night and day in favour of the 692!! I have also had to my shooting baddies that owned silver pigeons that have now moved over to the 692 for the same reason after having tried mine out. But I have to say a big thank you for all your information given about reliability issues when buying different guns and ammo and all other information about shooting over the years.👍
I bought 682 gold e with 32 inch barrels and flush fitting chokes, and the balance is fantastic. The adjustable trigger is great as I needed the lop extended and I also sent the stock off to be refinished and an adjustable combe fitted . This hasn't effected the overall balance and now it fits great! These are great value guns to also consider as John referred to
I agree both are quite similar. BUT the felt recoil on the 692 is much less than on 682 Gold E or 686. That was one reason why I bought the 692. And unfortunately even my GF sees it this way and now I need a second 692😂
Big fan of these vids. I have looked forward to them. I made my choice last fall, and could not be happier using these vids for help in my choice.. it helps that i think i am, or close to a typical for standard gun fit. I could have paid for a 692. I went with the 686 black onyx pro sporting in '32 inch and would purchase it again if I had a chance to redo .. it's a exciting 686 choice if you want a different look. The pigion 1 isnt the only option .
686 tried and tested I have a 35 year old 686 onyx its never missed a beat it shoots to point of aim and has put more pheasants on the table and dusted more clays than you can shake a stick at. I run it mod/mod bottom barrel first hundreds of thousands of cartridges later reliable reliable reliable what more can you ask for? I would marry it if it would have me but I don't think im worthy
Hi, could you please do a video on how to remove and refit the stock to a 686 SP1 - explaining how tight to do the stock bolt without splitting the stock. Thanks in advance 👍🏻
G. M. Right now I’m trying to decide between the 686 Sporting and the 690 Black Sporting. I like the specs of the 690, but the traditional nicer looking two tone and scroll engraving on the 686. For $450 dollars more are the differences going to make a better sporting clay gun? There aren’t any 690’s in my area to hold so I can compare.
I dont knnow why they change the ejectors!!! The old style is better in my opinion .. the dt11 uses the old style why beretta is change it only in the 692 i cant understand that. Thanks fof the video I really enjoy it
When talking about handling, you grip the 692 with your left hand out on the barrels and the 686 with your left hand on the fore stock while talking about the 686 handling better than the 692. Having your left hand placement further ahead will naturally slow the barrel movement of any gun. You have to have consistency in your handling to be credible and if you think the 32 inch barrels are too muzzle heavy then go to 30 inch barrels, problem solved!
I've got a 686 Onyx and a 691 (both field). I'm tending to gravitate back to the 686 as it just feels (to me) better even if it looks like pig ugly, well the wood, as I like the plain metal work.
@@alanbush4192 LOL - sorry!! It's just the wood!! Give it its due, I doubt anything will ever go wrong with it. Anyway, I added a bit on to the back of the 691 and that's now taken the place of the Onyx.
Both guns have forcing cones but the ones on the 692 are a lot longer which , (at least in theory), reduce felt recoil by lengthening the recoil pulse. I haven't noticed the long forcing cones being dirtier.
Hello TGS. I've just bought an 686 sp1 with an 28'' barrel or 71cm. Do you know if there is by any chance a possibility to change the barrel length to a 76cm barrel instead. And if it's possible, how hard is it to do?
Everyone says this, the truth is that both actions are good! from a purely operational perspective i prefer the 525 to be honest. However both actions have been on very good and some rather under pa models over the years
Hey Jon, when you do a review might it be good to say what year the gun was manufactured? There is such a range for many models. I have a 686s from the early 90's and there are some differences I can see. For one thing I have fixed chokes. Just an idea.
The 686 in the review had Optima chokes, which seems to have been changed on newer examples. My 2018 686 SP1 Sporter has flush Optima HP chokes as standard.
you could get multi chokes back in the 90s in 2005 my mate and I bought 2 silver pigeons he ordered fixed chokes and I ordered multi. apart from that they were identical Beretta always give you options
FFS please stop all the people shuffling about , making noise and moving crap around in the background, can they not see your obviously shooting a demo? Who was the guy in the orange right of shot? They have no respect for you and your efforts buddy, sort them out. Otherwise great comparison vid.
You know you will never go wrong with an M2, but it is both budget dependent and you dependant. What competition do you want to compete in. Box mag, semi or pump?
Value for money I guess. Less than £1,200. Semi but also box mag - doesn't seem to be a lot out there in terms of explanation when it comes to box mag.
After seeing a 692 black break away from the stock and the metal bolt shear in half at a local shoot from the force of opening the action, ill stick to my 687. Plus I've heard some bad stuff reliability wise about the newer 90s and 92s which is pretty disappointing considering I'm a Beretta fan.
nope, just wanted to make sure it's walnut, they don't say it on their site and i've seen on some forums people saying they're not using walnut now. Thanks
Not something I will stock any time soon. I got the chance to sample the whole marrochi Range recently and wasn’t very impressed. The eco was about the best but the balance, stock dimensions and the general way if shot was not great.
After watching this video I’ve changed my mind about purchasing the 692 sporting plus. Here in Canada there is a 2 grand difference between the latter and the 686 equivalent. The black edition is another 1200 (can). Now I’m stuck not knowing what to buy, #$@&
Skidow... Look for a good condition used 686 Onyx with 28" multi choke barrels they shoot to point of aim and are bomb proof you cant wear them out I have one its 35 years old. run it either 1/4 / 1/2 or 1/2 / 1/2 . I run mine 1/2 / 1/2 and it shooting in the upper 80s on sporting clays the new ones aint as good
Hey John I enjoy all your videos. Question please.....have you ever sampled a CZ Woodcock Deluxe o/u ? I'm thinking of getting one but would like your opinion ion if you know anything of it. Thanks for your time 😊
I owned the standard woodcock. Beautiful piece. But the action failed firing both barrels at the same time. Sent to cz and they owned up to it and fixed it free of charge with a very fast turn around rate. I will say that the gun had a substantial amount of recoil and muzzle jump over all the other over unders I have shot. So i went to the beretta 686 silver pigeon:)
I'm really not a fan of the aluminum parts on the 692. I expect that aluminum is significantly cheaper to machine because it is much softer and because it is softer it will not be as durable.
I've seen most of your videos and they are great, but this one just doesnt seem to make any sense. I cannot see the point of comparing a 2k gun with one that retails well over 4k. its like comparing an SUV with a Sedan. They are both cars but one is bigger, more expensive and has more stuff, the other is cheaper, smaller and still drives you from point A to point B. Compare SUV's to SUV's and Sedans to Sedans, $2k dollar guns with 1500 or 2500 guns.
ESTEBAN... have a friend who thinks just because he pays more for something its automatically better I cant tell you the times he has made himself look stupid by boasting about paying over the odds for something. He is a MONEY SNOB with more money than sense
BERETTA - It's a shame that their costumer service is so bad! I activate the warranty 1 month ago and until know not even a mail I receive, is like they don't exist. Also the local represent of their brand has the same behaviour. the worst gun brand if you have a problem with your gun. run away!
Blaser f16 sporting is better Gun than beretta 692 for simylar money. Krieghoff is best if you want super waffen/Gun Atomatic I Think benelli m2s is one off the best on the market to buy, Budget guns/ is beretta sp 686 sporting 12/76 or browning 525 sporter 12/76 alternative. Used or old gun to buy I recommend beretta 682 Gold E best beretta Gun ever, 250000 shoots with no problem at all 👍
Ethan Fowler I own the 686 20g brilliant gun a mate of mine has a 525 browning and honestly the beretta is a better quality gun the browning is nice though
Ethan Fowler personal experience. Owned 2 brownings had problems with both of them. Owned 3 berretas and no problems with any of them oldest one is 20 years old and never faulted. Just recently at the gun club ive heard a lot of people complaining about problems with brownings. Berretas especially the 686 model just seem to be ultra reliable. Thats my reasons for loving berretas. However we all have our own opinions. Bit off topic but i have a 1886 hammergun which still shoots like new but then again its ENGLISH.
