A couple of weeks ago I traded for a 2012 Beretta Storm (still had box, paperwork, looked new). I absolutely love it. It is now my favorite gun. My very first impression, truthfully, was how good looking it was---yes, I love the looks of it! Secondly, I loved the weight and balance. The first time I shot it, the decreased recoil and mild muzzle lift were beautifully noticeable, and the accuracy was phenominal. An added benefit was how easy takedown is to clean it. This 73-yr-old gun-totin' granny loves the Storm! Thanks for your thoughtful review, but truly, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think the Storm is bad to the bone!
My dad carried a .40 variant as a detective and we both loved it to pieces. We always got to the range with it when we could, and he had to use it twice in the line of duty, both times serving him more than well. I know the whole "It just looks dumb" thing is opinion but honestly I think it looks awesome. It looks different. Stands out. I kind of saw it as a big brother or cousin to the 92.
Bruce Willis used the PX4 in “Live Free, or Die Hard”. It was a battlefield pickup, but he retained it throughout the movie, and killed a lot of Olyphant’s henchmen...lol!
Not sure if that's only in the movies ?? I think it's a good reason to know how to work as many as you can . I have heard some say they only like & mostly shoot XYZ & almost never a revolver ... same with DA/SA vs striker . Best to be good with as many as you can .
I’m a huge fan of movie references to guns. movies are a huge reason that I own the guns that I do. video games also have that affect on me too. That’s why I have the FN 57 from splinter cell
The grip was probably the first thing I noticed when I bought my Px4 so I actually put a Talon grip tape around mine for an easy and cheap fix and it actually works really well.
I've carried the PX4 in 9mm for close to a decade after carrying Glocks during the latter portion of my 35+ year LE career. My favorite carry firearm, hands down. The rotating barrel, mag capacity and even the DA/SA trigger-what's not to love? I think Beretta made a big mistake in discontinuing the D (DAO) model. IMO, A Glock is "uglier".
@@hershellumiere Yes, you can. There are kits out there that will allow for that, but the process involves tapping out pins which is not something I’m comfortable with. Afraid I’d end up with a paperweight.
I like the aesthetics also. What really drew me to the Storm was its ergonomics. Since I first picked up the PX4 the weight and feel seemed a perfect fit. The control and accuracy on the range have been the best I have ever had in a handgun. I am very satisfied and highly recommend.
Dude, there are LOADS of "experts" with videos on gun reviews - you, however, are the exception and the best reviewer: unbiased, honest, quick, to-the-point. A professional in rural Iowa for sure...thanks
I own the subcompact 9mm. Have carried it every day now for two years. Love the trigger. Shoot at least one mag every trip to the range to keep in tune with it. They say it is ugly but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And God there is nothing more ugly than a glock.
PX4s are seriously under-rated. Mine is in .45CP and it is a very fine handgun. Several folks that I know have the PX4 in 9mm and they love those guns. And I think it is a cool looking pistol!
I have it in .9mm and .40 s&w. The ONLY things I don't like is the lack of grip texture and the trigger travel before it engages. Both inexpensive fixes
@@thisismagacountry1318 It's SLIGHTLY more recoil than the PX4 .9mm, but imo it shoots like a most .9mm from other brands. The rotating barrel really does reduce muzzle flip
Everyone says its an ugly gun... I think it's gorgeous with the curves and beveled edges. Puro stile italiano with a hint of art moderne flavour. I know I'm new to the game, but glocks' look like germanic bricks, souless and no personality.
@@AOYT2077 all of he have the wings. this one has the lever upgrade on it. the big wing lever come in all models but you can change to this or the 92 safety if you like
For me, it's the hip new reboot of the 92 series. Same controls, and it's obviously part of the same lineage, but with a lot of cool new features and a more modern look. I love the M9, but I'm fond the Px4 as well.
Agreed! I wanted one based on looks alone the first time I saw one, being a Beretta made it an eventual must have. I'm planning to have one in the next couple months after seeing Outlaw's review.
Exactly, I couldn't have said it better myself. I've owned mines for about 8 yrs now and never thought it was "the ugly duckling " Lol. I bought it because it had the best fit in my hand . Still wouldn't trade it to this day . Mines has a slip on rubber grip...feels awesome!
I have the .40 Cal PX4 Storm in the Compact frame. Has about the same recoil as my Glock 19. If you run out ammo you can use it as a club, it's that solid.
*I'VE HAD ONE FOR A WHILE NOW AND WOULDN'T TRADE IT IN FOR ANY OTHER PISTOL, IT JUST WORKS PERFECTLY AND ITS ACCURACY IS SPOT ON--NOT TO MENTION IT'S A 17 ROUND BEAST!!* *BERETTA KNOCKS ANOTHER PISTOL OUT OF THE PARK!!!*
The looks of the PX4 are awesome. I have one in 40 S&W. I love it. Had it for four years. I lost track of how many rounds I put through it, and have never had even one malfunction! Super accurate. Super comfortable in my hand. Nice sights. Love it love it love it.
sometimes im like man i wish i had the glock or the sig i get the boxy gun bug when staring at pics of em...the grass is greener mode...then i pick up my twin px4 9's with extended mags and im like oh damn...these are badass lmao
I have the Langdon Compact Carry and absolutely love it. I shoot it very well and it is probably the softest shooting 9 mm that I own. However, I did try the full-size at my local gun shop and I couldn’t hit this broad side of the barn with it. I really have no idea what was going on. But I love the Compact Carry. Thanks for the video and cheers!!
Thanks for the review! I have a PX4 full size LE Type G in 40 S&W and I LOVE IT. It's not a goofy ugly handgun. I think it is very futuristic and cool looking. The most comfortable to shoot of all my handguns. I pack 140 gr Barnes TAC-XPD for EDC. It is my go to handgun.
Out of the 7 handguns that I own - including Sigs, Smiths, and even CZs - this is the smoothest shooting gun that I own that I am by far the most accurate with. Once you add some of the LTT and Beretta modifications, like the competition trigger group, enhanced trigger bar, 12# hammer spring, 92 style levers, decocker conversion, Talon grips, and new sights, it is simply incredible. I recently sent mine in for the RDO cut from LTT, crowned barrel, and slide cerakote. There’s just something about this firearm that rises above the rest. I also think it looks cool and futuristic - like a Blade Runner type gun. Highly underrated firearm. I wish I didn’t live in Commiefornia, so I could get the LTT Compact Carry variant.
I’ve got my Px4 in its holster on my belt at this moment. It’s been there for 3 years without ever being sub’d out. Love my Px4! I do agree that the grip texture sucks, which is why mine is stipples. I do wish there were longer barreled options as well. However, I prefer a slide mounted decocker and I think mine looks pretty sweet.
I know I'm about 3 years late to the game, but apparently the Canadian legal Px4's are required to have a 4.25" barrel. Ain't much longer, but it certainly makes it look cooler.
I bought my first PX-4 years ago, a must have to pair with a CX-4 Storm. Having the ability to only carry 1 type of mag and be able to stick them in your pistol or carbine is a very overlooked benefit for urban home defense. Never had an issue with either.
I carry a Beretta cougar 45 (8045) and I would argue it's actually a nice replacement for the 92. I also find most people know the 92 and the PX4, but aren't as familiar with the cougar.
I converted mine to "type G" and went with the low-profile levers as you show. I could not think of a good reason I would ever need to decock the gun fast and I outgrew needing a safety very quickly. I had problems with the standard "Batwing" levers that come stock, they would engage the safety when I would holster the gun. I did also add some Talon grips and carefully trimmed them to match the curves of the gun. I have gotten many people into gun shops to buy their first gun by letting them shoot my PX4 compact. I bought this gun because I saw it in a movie and fell in love. It took me days of scrolling through online gunshops before I found it, For me, it was love at first sight.
Talon or Traction grips are an Inexpensive fix for the smooth grip issue :). Such an awesome gun. And you can change the sights to Ameriglow and Beretta produces alternative safety/ decocker which is smoother and less pronounced you can even turn it into a decocker only G model. I have it in Inox and in subcompact 9mm. Love them. Shoot them so well.
I have the PX4 Storm with a Langdon Tactical trigger and a silicone finger grip! It's wicked! Literally hands down one of the best guns Ive ever had. Never had a SINGLE malfunction in over 13 years!
I carried a 92 in the Marine Corps. 1st pistol I bought after EAS was a px4 subcompact 9mm. Awesome firearm. Ran thousands of rounds through it and fits like a glove. I've gotten rid of pistols since buying this one but I'll never sell my px4.
First 9mm I purchased after carrying the M9 for twenty-one years in the military. Many years and a few purchases later and it is still my favorite pistol. No idea how many rounds I have put through this thing, but never a single failure. May take a backseat to the M9A4, that I intend to purchase soon. Your videos are the best.
I've shot a lot of 9mm's since I was 15 (I'm now 47). Ruger, Glock, Beretta, Springfield, S&W, Taurus (the 92, the good ones), Sig, and many more.... This is the absolute best 9mm I've ever shot. Wish it was more popular. I did steer away from it because of the looks, but the first shot I was sold.
You really passed it up at $370. Oh man ! It wouldn’t be my first choice , but definitely top 3. But at $370 bucks it would be a no brainer . I’m truly sorry for your loss.
@@dareisnogod5711 A cap-and-ball revolver looks a dozen times more cool than any modern semi-auto plastic fantastic ever will. Yeah I know, different purposes.
@@dareisnogod5711 yeah but it also has better ergos, better trigger ,less recoil and is more reliable yes more reliable than a glock the rotating barrel means bullets ffed directly into the chamber no ramp to get bullets caught up on like a tilting barrel .
I've carried this for about ten years. I need to add a wider decock lever eventually, but I have zero functional complaints. They do require a little more frequent cleaning for daily carry even if you don't actually shoot it in between, but that's kind of typical of Beretta including the M-9. They just have a lot of little "nooks and crannies" that collect random debris. Use grease instead of oil on the slide rails and it'll even run pretty cruddied up, not that I recommend that. A slightly heavier spring might make that moot, but my experience with it is that the plastic to metal interface dries out quickly in desert conditions using CLP. Not remotely an issue until you are cut off from your proper cleaning gear for a while. (Don't ask, but that happened.)
This was the first pistol I ever shot. My brother bought one of these the day he was old enough to do so. He still has it to this day and brings it to the range every time we go. It really is a great shooter and he has had zero problems with it for the 12+ years he has owned it.
One of my favorite pistols, hands down. I can't wait to get mine out of the gun store. I would love to see your thoughts on the APX as well. I think I might be a Beretta guy. I love the 92, PX4, and the APX.
Not a bad choice of a firearm brand, that’s for sure. Anything to report after 1 year of use? I just bought one and am having to do the 10 day wait (I live in CA), but I cannot wait to pick it up.
I am right there with you, I love my M9-22, and my 92X, been seeing a bunch of these Berettas, the PX4 compact carry and the APX both look like nice pistols.
I've done the trigger job Langdon offers, converted mine to a G model, and stippled the grip. This gun is AWESOME! So much so that I've integrated it with my minuteman gear.
Really enjoying your vids. I am not a firearm collector or lover but still I watch your show because I really like your voice and tone. Makes me calm and help me focus on something. PX4 45acp was THE FIRST FIREARM I've ever shotted in my life. Ed who was my good mentor took me to a range and let me shot Beretta PX4.This vid brought me the memory. I miss him. Thank you for a good review vid.
Such a great point about the real reason this gun has really not taken off. I have been a huge beretta fan boy for quite some time and my 92a1 has become somewhat of a safe queen. Unfortunately the biggest reason I have never picked this gun up is because of the looks.
In the Compact version, the Compact Carry has addressed your concerns. I think there is a Full-size Carry model, Langdon Tactical inspired. Worth a look. Only if you can say no to greatness
I’m mostly a big Sig and Glock guy, but this gun has really caught my eye lately. I think it’s pretty cool looking-very futuristic, and the smoothness gives you that snag-free feeling if you’re going to draw it from under a shirt or something like that.
I added Talon grips to mine and changed out the inside safety switch to Beretta’s low profile safety to help with draw but left the original safety on the outside. I do love the looks of this one and shoot it like no other pistol. I love my PX4.
I have one in 40 caliber. One of the nicest firing guns I have ever used. Little recoil, very reliable, never a problem and I really like the look of it.
I remember there was a gun that Beretta made around the turn of the millennium that i think was called the "Cougar". It was an all metal version that looked a lot like this.
Based on the same design, some of the parts are interchangeable. You can still order the Cougar D Spring, for instance. I installed in my Px4 Storm, it reduced the draw on the double action making it much easier to fire that first shot. I recommend the pistol, and if you carry, the spring updgrade. (Though it was good shooting right out of the box)
Great review as always! I picked one of these up and couldn’t agree more I enjoy this pistol. It definitely had to grow on me as far as looks but I actually think it looks pretty cool now. It’s definitely one I don’t regret and it belongs in my safe next to all of my others. Thanks again for your reviews
Converted to G mode on my carry model immediately, now it is a decock. Plenty of channel support on the change, took about 15 minutes, easy peasy. Great carry option.
This is the video that got me to buy this pistol. I have 500 rounds through it with no problems. I've only upgraded the recoil spring and put talon grips on it. Its my everyday carry and I love it. My personal gripes are the safety (turn it into a decock only) and the lack of monetary support. There are few companies that specifically make holsters for this pistol.
When you actually need it the monetary support will go where that concern belongs...I'll gladly take "tango down" over saving a few bucks and coming in 2nd in a confrontation.
I've got one in 9mm I picked up second hand when the store was already having a great sale on new PX4s for $289! I wish they came with a stronger slide finish, but otherwise a great performing and good looking gun.
Congratulations, I noticed you've broken the 1 million mark. Here're to hoping you'll hit 10 million soon. Keep on doing what you are GREAT at what you do.
The looks of this gun is what's got my attention in the first place ! I really like it ! You are right on the decocker and especially on the grip texture though !
I love my px4! I used to hate the way they looked too, then a buddy of mine offered to sell me his basically brand new one for a good deal and it really grew on me. I love the way it looks now and the way it shoots even better. Class of its own lol great review as always!
I have the compact and the full size and love them. Have never been a beretta fan somehow but own now those two and a 92sf and love how they shoot. I dont understand why you dont like the looks of the px4, its italian so ofcourse it looks good 😊 Thx for another great vid. Just in case you read this, what sights did you use and did you see the ltt variant of the px4?
I’m glad that you bought a better microphone sometime after this video. I’d like to see you review one of the Langdon Tactical PX4 Storm pistols and compare it to this stock gun.
Px4 is the most underrated handgun. The best bang in reliability, 17rds, ease of shooting. All this adds up to a great gun for the average folks who needs something to protect family but not into guns.
The first time I saw one of these in a gun show I thought it looked like a funky space gun, then I picked it up and it fit my hand like it was made for me. I fell in love with it and have been shooting one ever since.
I’m issued this gun for work and it’s great. I’m not the best shooter, but I have never had a problem re-qualifying every year with this accurate little guy.
I've been trying to school people on this firearm for years. I missed the chance to pick up a Langdon Tactical version on the cheap. And hate myself for being slow to move to this day.
I've had a .40 PX4 Compact for 7 years now, same rotating barrel. It's been my EDC for 5 years, where it's taken a beating (I work in construction) and just refuses to ever fail. I have probably close to 5,000 rounds through it, in all that time it had one failure to eject and that was from a reload that had a case split, it stovepiped on the way out. I just put another 250 rounds through it today without a single failure, but I see what you mean about the grip being a bit too smooth especially in the 98 degree heat and humidity today. Did you know you can turn this from a Type F (decocker and safety) into Type G (decocker only) just by removing a spring and tiny ball bearing? This removes any concern about hitting the safety accidentally and keeps it in a factory condition. I did this to mine, also installed the Beretta competition trigger which was an improvement. There is also a Beretta low-profile slide lock and release available, or you could just buy the compact Carry model which I believe comes with all that already. And one thing I love about this gun is the way it looks! Putting it next to a Glock is like a Ferrari next to an old East German Trabby!
Just saw this video, years after it was produced. I've had the PX4 in .40 for quite a while now and have the squishy trigger. The double action feels barely better than a S&W .38 and I usually manually pull the hammer back so I don't have the terrible squishy trigger on the first round so I have a similar reflex on the follow ups. As a 1911 guy, I hat e to say it, but I wish the PX4 storm was a striker fire pistol instead of an external hammer with the stupid safety.
@@daleoverly4401 You can easily remove a few parts to make it decocker-only with no safety as I did. In fact you can buy it from the factory that way, so doing so keeps it factory original. I also replaced the trigger with a Beretta competition trigger.
Right there is the g Version also a Single Action Version, Romanian police got this for the New gun program whitch replace the old Carpați basicly a Version of ppk
I just purchased this and I am in ❤ with it. I thanks they did a great job with the design. It’s the first gun I actually owned. I give it a 9.5. The weight is perfect and the feel in you hand is amazing.
This my first time seeing this gun, what actually made me click on this video review was the look of the gun. It’s just plain and simple, and knowing now that it’s very reliable. This might be my first pick of gun buying👍🏽
This was my concealed carry for a decade (sub compact 9mm). I put thousands of rounds through it without a failure. I like the enhanced safety and decocker, this gun is hard to fire on accident. I love the aesthetics, but I like European stuff generally. It's elegant.
I love Beretta's. Friggin great guns. I use to own the CX4 Storm and absolutely loved it. But the PX4 is such a funny looking gun same with the APX lol too futuristic. IDK what Beretta's trying to do
I wasn't a fan of the apx either until I handled one. A buddy of mine just bought a apx compact 9mm, it's a really nice well built pistol. If I didn't already have a few pistols that size, I would definitely consider one.
Its the wierd spike it has on the back. Also the edge on the front of the slide gives it the illusion that it expands like a trumpet. Slide looks really tall too which reminds of the Hi Point
