When i saw your calculated finish times of 2:21 i thought "maybe its a bit too aggressive pacing". Then i saw you at 20km mark (made a video :-D) and you didn't look very confident but hoped that i were wrong. Your decision to cut back and try to hit it at frankfurt marathon again is very good, frankfurt is also a quite fast marathon. So with a good pacing strategy you might go for a 2:23. Wish you best luck!
I was genuinely getting withdrawals from no video all week. Pleased that all is ok. Sorry the marathon did not go to plan. I live so close to Box hill but never ran it. Far to much for me. Your doing it 5 x 😲 Anyway great video as always. Thank you. 👍
You made a great decision in Berlin. Setting yourself up for a PB in Frankfurt. I was happy to go under 1.30 for the first time in the Ealing Half last weekend (1.27) and am now super excited for Valencia Marathon! 8 wks to go! Your advnaced marathon plan is working really nicely 👍 thanks Ben!
Given the time and effort to get over to Berlin, that was great discipline to stop at half distance knowing it could be detrimental to your training to continue. Your videos are so natural and show it's ok to have bad days. Great stuff Ben.
Absolutely love your videos and managed to get 3 PBs on today's 16km run. Chuffed to bits with my training progress which is inspired by your videos. Thank you.
Another cracking video Ben as always, all the very best for Frankfurt. Just getting over a stress fracture in my shin, you sent me a message a couple of months ago which gave me some much need motivation (when I was feeling pretty despondent) , I've been doing a load of swimming and gym work since and ready to get back in the game. Keeping my fingers crossed for the london ballot results next week! Will be cheering for you on the 27th 👍
Another great video Ben! I was tracking you at Berlin and was wondering what had happened and knew you had a problem when it said 'last seen at half way!' You obviously know your strengths and how you were feeling - it happens. I'm sure your put it right in Frankfurt! Good luck and keep up the great work!💪🏼🏃🏻♂️
Hi Ben, I was sorry to hear you had to pull our of the Berlin race. Its so important to show that these things do happen to all of us and we have to make the right decision that is best for us. It was great to see you show this in such a positive light and, in all honesty, shows great courage to do this. Best of luck in Frankfurt, im doing Amsterdam in a few weeks, my first race in X8 years so im a bit nervous, but the "Hay is in the barn" so to speak #gettingitdone
Thanks for the video - I’ve been waiting to hear your take on Berlin. I did worry you were doing too many hard events, so I’m not entirely surprised Berlin didn’t work out - though I’m disappointed for you. I think you made a brave / mature decision to stop halfway - it would have been easy to give in to your ego and pushing ‘till you blew up! I’m excited for Frankfurt. Good luck!!!
A lot of people said they thought I was doing too many races. But in the last 3 months, I've done 2 half marathons and 1 Parkrun.. so hardly anything really! Appreciate the message though, thank you!! :-)
Always honest content, either good results or bad you're always honest and that is awesome, for me only 2 runs within 3 weeks away on honeymoon so home now and looking forward to getting back out there again and building up towards Manchester marathon then a 24hr event. Keep the good content coming...
Definitely the right call, you will always get your goal one day but just maybe on the day you expect. Last weekend I hit my goal of the 4 miles race as I hit a new PB in the race and through 5k
Good Luck Ben !! May the Force be with You for Frankfurt 😀 you are the best judge of your health and form .. so Berlin is now past and we look forward to Frankfurt !! Cheers
Hi Ben I've recently suffered the same as you ....i did the Glasgow half marathon a couple Sundays ago and it was an epic fail. The slowest I've ran 1 hr 57 .Every minute was a struggle. I've been running over 10 years now and run marathons regular last one in May. But this year I've just completely ran out of energy and my legs just won't pick up. I'm back training but it's hard trying to get your mind set over such a disappointing run. Gotta keep trying to get it done like u say. Brill videos Ben as always great content xx
Box hill features in Jane Austin's Emma. They have a picnic there. Great video Ben. Never mind about Berlin--there are plenty more races. Good luck with the training for Frankfurt.
Sorry for what happened in Berlin. I t was absolutely pissing down. I didn't enjoy it much however i finished and get the medal. All the best for Frankfurt!
Hey Ben,Zagreb marathon was just won by 2h19min... ;I know u want 2h20' , so you could be running there with 1st group, maybe figting for a win!!!Crazy ey?
Brilliant video Ben. Keep 'em coming. I'm training for Valencia and I'm getting the sessions done but I'm not particularly enjoying them. I am super tired all of the time and lacking enthusiasm. I did Hamburg earlier this year and I couldn't wait to get out for the long runs etc but this time around I am doing it a bit reluctantly. I've learnt that 2 x 4 month Marathon training camps in 1 year is too much for me. I have another 8 weeks to go and am just looking for some tips/encouragement on how to snap out of this and regain my enthusiasm!
It's hard Robbie. What I tend to do when I'm lacking mojo is go running on trails. You always get a good workout with some hills, it changes the scenery, no pressure on splits / pace.. If you're struggling a bit, then you could also just take a week off completely. Go do something else for a bit. You won't lose any fitness, well hardly anything, with a week off. Have to think long term.. a week off now, could be worth lots of good ones in the future! All the best.
Good call stepping out at Berlin and getting more training in for Frankfurt. Keep at it, Ben! Down to 3:24 in the marathon with your video tips. Great to see Kiki getting a feature role in this one!
I found and watched that Kenya wrm up video about 12 months ago and love it. Love the music too. I did write and list their warm up as I have done with yours.
First of all would like to say a big thank you for everything you do for the running community and for all the ppl out there trying to run for fun or race for health. i was wondering if you are going to run this year NYC Marathon ?..and when you train for a marathon or any other race which method of training plans you use more / or you are influenced more ...??? from the renown trainers/coaches like Matt Fitzgerald 80/20 training ,or Hall Higdon or Greg McMillan or others?thank you and best of luck for your next races 👍🤞🙏
Wise decision to pull out at 21km. Can’t wait to see how you in Frankfurt. Thanks for the videos and sharing your journey. Recently found your channel and loving what you do 👍
Ben, mate, please don't call it winter yet! Good video, enjoyed it as always. I'm glad your bloods are alright and hope you get your energy back up soon.
It's comforting to hear of some your struggles post GNR as going through a very similar thing myself at the moment. Ran an amazing HM PB, then come out the other side of it just feeling fatigued and not recovering properly 3-4 weeks later. Was thinking of getting my blood tested too, so would defo be interested if you're able to sort out a discount with a company! Anyway, another great video, onwards and upwards and best wishes!
Just because of this honest blog .. upgrade to Patreon Gold. You well deserved for your dedication! Also I didn't know about Tuesday evening run's, ;) what time they are?
Ruined my acilles on a very hard hill run, a week and a half ago. Worked on getting them better. Intensly. Its helped a lot, but its not going to be fine/healed for the 13 K race on sunday 😖 I just have to remember that I dont have to be fast. I just have to run it. Because I need to be super for the really hard 50 K on december 7. So no injuries, no sickness, no wasting time on fixing the achilled more than planned. I need km's under my shoes. Not speed, just distance.
Nice meeing you, Ben, right after the race at Haubtbahnhof. You did a good job. Good session! Might see you in Frankfurt, I'm aiming for sub 2.28 there. Greetings from Sweden.
Been asking myself, what could've been your result. Thanks for the update. Hope you can smash that 2:23 Frankfurt marathon. Currently training for a 10km race and i'm in my Wk07 today following the Garmin Training Plan, aiming for a sub40.
Nice one, Ben, good mix in this video. Think you did the right thing regarding Berlin, and good to hear tests came back ok. PS: Kiki really is adorable ❤️
@@99cya not as i hoped... after 20k got sick, had to vomit and search for toilets.. made the 42k with allot of walking went true very dark places. Finished at 5:14
Robbie de Backer oh im very sorry to hear. im sure that was hard since you trained a lot for it. hopefully you get your strength and motivation back soon.
Hi Ben, well done so far. Have you found you blood results different because of your fitness, healthy eating etc. My doctor was worried about low white blood cells (lymphocyte count) but after a bit of research, it appears whole food plant based eaters normally have lower lymphocytes. After all, surely average readings will be more towards the majority of the population.
Good honest assessment of your race in Berlin. I had a look at your early splits and originally thought you were a little bit aggressive in your early pace. By aggressive I mean you don't need to run 3:19/km in the first 10km.....you could start in the 3:20's or 3:30/km and work down to 3:15's/km feeling good. You can run 2:20 or low 2:20's with a good negative split. I think you could go out in 71:30/72 mins and surprise yourself with a 68/69/70/71 minute second half rather than a positive split. Some more feedback (you did ask! :) ), I think you should wait 5 days+ after a race before you do a hard session and be careful with all the early morning flights and trains and long days and marathon distance runs in the heat all in the same week! I wondered if you felt flat for these reasons. P.S. I still think you could run low 2:20's....don't overdo the intensity in the next few weeks
Hi Ben Good luck with Frankfurt. Thinking about getting a Compex but just wanted to know your thoughts. It would be great if you could do a vid on it and how you would incorporate in your training and recovery. Thanks
I just use it for recovery Ian. Don’t use the strength or other functions.. it is very good, I use it most days... lying in bed before sleep. If money is no problem then they are great. (I bought mine 2nd hand on eBay) PowerDot 2.0 is also good and a fraction of the price, so have a look at that. Compex 9/10.. PowerDot 7/10.
Hi Ben Thanks for the advice. Bought the PowerDot 2.0 about two weeks ago. I have to say I’m pleased with it for the recovery. I also have Optima Sport recovery boots that also great. Cheers
That sucks mate. Would have loved to see you go sub 220 and Berlin is the only place that will happen. There is always next year!!! I just cracked my 5K PB at 18;49 and 10K PB at 39:20. End of running season here in Oz as the sun starts to shine. Do a video on the upcoming Ineos 1:59 coming up next weekend, Interested to get your thoughts and learnings from their training programme
Do you still do group night sessions? I mean during non-global pandemics 😅 I moved to the UK in February with a plan to join some running groups to improve + meet people, but that's all been kind of on hold!
I startet a runningvlog this year and 2021 I want to film my first real Competition. Can you give Tips for filming while run a race? love your content, grz from Berlin
I have very similar goal in my mind but going for solo PB not during the race. My current 10K PB is 50:29 so I hope I will be able to shave about 35 seconds from it. Good luck with your race!
@@Morfeusm Thanks and good luck to you as well! My current PB is 52:33, but that was almost 3 months ago. I'm in better shape now. If I remember I'll comment here after the race.
how do you label your garmin workout 'box hill' - have you labelled and set a route or something? Not sure how to do that stuff? Is there an app for routes or using old runs? thanks
Well. Tapering for a 50k mix trail with +1300mt ascent. Hope you nail it in Frankfurt. Oh, and recently dropped 11 minutes my half marathon time, from 1:52:49 to 1:41:26 with a 7 months interval.
Did you blood test for choline? Sad you didn't make the goal but things go wrong like my gastro in tonights run for me :-S. Better luck next time and I'll be looking forward to the video.
Hi Ben, great video once again. I've bought your level two HM plan as I'm planning a half every month next year. My question is how do I train in-between the halfs, if I've got a four week gap do I just start at week 8 and so on?
Hi Ben, I’ve not been feeling on top form either. Everything seems really hard at the moment so I’m thinking of doing the blood test. Which one though? I think the baseline fitness test should be ok as a first step to identify any issues - do you agree?
I think you can do a 2.20.. why not? Just rest up a bit more after a few hard sessions so you are fresh for the race. A lot of the comments have mentioned this so might be a wise move?
Ben, are you simply not eating enough calories? Quite common among endurance athletes. Ive spoken with professionals about this, common isssues during intense training weeks, like a camp or build up for a marathon.
All the blood tests said my body was dealing with things ok.. I don’t want to get into calorie counting, but am going to start monitoring rough volumes of calories more going forward.. just ensuring I’m getting enough. Thank you!
@@BenParkes are cool that's what I'm thinking of doing thanks for replying so cant wait to get the green cap that's my favourite looking my red one do love tho. Hoping for Christmas thr hoodie and vest love your clothing
