Australian Bernard Tomic retired from his match against Japan's Yuta Shimizu on Friday due to illness, with girlfriend Keely Hannah having tested positive for Covid-19.
@@AinSoph73 Of course - point is back in the day he was hyped for his talent, but his attitude just killed it all. I was surprised to see he's still playing, when in fact he's only 31 yo.
@@ps-bi2sr personally I think it was a mistake for others, not him, to hype up his talent and his attitude is a lot more sensible than we may always give him credit for. Imagine having a talent for waiting tables, or retail, or some other job. Some of us think a career in sports is glamorous, attractive, or even fun, but it's insane work day in and day out. I don't fault anyone that just shows up and does what they need to pick up a decent paycheck like 99.99% of the world does when it goes to work.
This guy stopped trying when he was about 24. I remember he used to retire from some matches after losing the first set cos he couldn't be bothered fighting back.
@@ps-bi2sr maybe it seems like that when these guys show up as promising young talents who are expected to stay in the top 10 for their entire careers. If taking home over $6M in prize money, becoming internationally famous, and getting to face the game's legends on the biggest stages makes him the "bad day at work" guy I think he's doing alright. Not everybody that plays tennis for a living wants to be employee of the week every single week. It's just a lucrative avenue to apply an otherwise useless talent.
@@AinSoph73 Good points - I'd say in Tomic's case he has been his own worst enemy, and he's probably left twice that on the table had he taken himself seriously. Just sayin' - this is well documented, and just unfortunate for the lad.
@@ps-bi2sr I get the spirit of your comment so I hope I don't sound like I'm belaboring this; to earn a rank of 250 requires serious work and training. Tomic is still active at 31, albeit on the challenger tour; he's older than Kyrgios who has been sidelined with an injury for 2 years after admitting he doesn't train properly, if at all. Part of the reason for Tomic's career prize money not being double what it is or more is also due to how prize money is distributed in professional tennis. A 250th ranked tennis player is basically a nobody, even among fervent tennis fans, but a 250th "ranked" NBA, NHL, or MLB player can still earn anywhere from $5M to $10M per year.
@@radscorpion8why is she shouting at him when he’s loosing. No matter what is said no girlfriend or boyfriend should be doing that to the tennis player.
This is the reason you should not have your argumentative mate at a match . Her job was done as she is watched leaving . Shimizu should send her a thank you card.
The crowd should ask for a refund. They paid to see a match and that idiot respects nothing. He should be fined for that attitude and banned from future tournaments.
Well first of all I'm pretty sure they don't sell tickets to these tourneys and they wish people will come. But nobody comes even for free. Tomic should be playing for Grand Slams and not these rinky dink tourneys.
Come on man... She should cut him loose ... the guy is a complete Narcissist ... He has a massive sense of his own self-importance, thinks the whole world revolves around him ... Let down a whole tournament by quitting and then blaming his girlfriend like a little child .. what a self-centered Fu&^er
It annoys me how so many people never liked Lleyton Hewitt. Compared to this individual at least Lleyton never ever quit. He always gave it everything he had for himself and his Country. That's why he's my favorite Aussie player on the men's side of things.
Well he was also a racist and made racist comments. So yeah, Hewitt deserved the hate, that shit maybe ok in Australia but doesn’t fly in civilized countries.
Just a little info: Tomic did test positive for Covid after the match (May 27). His girlfriend claimed she tested positive 2 weeks prior and Tomic argued that it was more recent. He was quarantined after the match and has since returned to playing ( he made it to the finals of Tulsa tournament last week). That match (May 27th) makes it his 6th retirement from a match this year.
Hewitt ye, but kyriigos you’re cutting a fine line there. When is their singles rematch gonna happen? Kyrgios should have accepted Tomics challenge. Big bucks to be made
I can see a lot of passive aggressiveness. Probably PTSD from his dad. Knowing from experience, that stuff follows you around for a long time. Hope he finds peace.
Tomic - You tested positive for covid today? GF - No I didn't! Tomic - Then what was that report I saw today that was positive? GF - It was HIV Tomic - Game Over
I don't know this guy very well so can only judge him for this video - according to the commentator he is arguing with his girlfriend stating that she has tested positive for Covid on that day and should not be there. And this is causing a distraction. Seems like she is the problem if he didn't know she was going to be there. Not that I care much anyway.
@@sandrograndi6638@sandrograndi6638 oh, a professional tennis player is better than me? No shit Sherlock. It doesn't excuse the fact that he has done this countless times and disrespects the game and the privilege he has had to play professionally.
We can add Tomic arguing with girlfriend to other Mike C moments such as Tiafoe commenting on live sex, Marcus Willis having a Snickers and a Coke mid match, Mmoh getting defaulted in Charlottesville, Darian King getting defaulted in Charlottesville and I have probably missed lots of stuff.
Why is Tomic still out there? He is a shell of what he once was. He had so much promise, but he didn't have the mental fortitude to reach his potential.
You do not need this destruction in your life!!! Let her go!!! Been there done that!!! When you are ill, your spirit broken and somebody sees the opportunity to drag you down even more.....the one that is suppose to love you!!!! No! No! No!
That’s right son. Real Aussies are puppets. Australia is a puppet nation. It’s embarrassing to be an Australian citizen. Djokovic showed them how it goes. Well son don’t believe in everything the government comes up with. Believe in yourself. And the most important thing. Wake up people! Novak Djokovic is symbol of freedom.✍️☝️✊🌏🕊️🌱✅✅✅
What does that even mean, 'Real Aussies'? Such a jingoistic thing to say. 'Aussies' have a reputation for poor attitudes and the whinging, so much whinging.
