I saw Mac play a seniors tour match against Michael Chang. During the match, McEnroe stopped play, when a baby began to cry. He looked up towards the mother and told her to do something about her wailing brat. The thoroughly embarrassed mother hastily left holding her crying baby to her breast, and the crowd rained down the BOOOOs upon Mr. McEnroe. Never one to either back down, or hold his tongue, much less show contrition, McEnroe then popped off through his mic'd up amplifier, " Whadda you expect? I'm from New York." Michael Chang then showed class when he spoke up that the sound was "music to my ears", "I am the father of a new born myself." So whenever they get to discussing class acts like Federer & Nadal, and then cry me a river over guys like Djokovic ...,
John is avoiding to speak the whole truth. The main reason for the hatred against Djokovic is because he was severely massively relentlessly demonized by the media because he refused to submit to experimental medical dictatorship. And after the smoke is gone in many ways more people hate him because they refuse to accept that they accepted to be on the really losing side. And are too scared and/or too proud to admit that they have been fooled, badly. Or that they were/are cowards.

He is not afraid of being cancelled. I put him right in there with Ricky Gervais and Dave Chappelle. They all could give two shits what anyone thinks, and they speak the truth no matter what. I respect that.
You’re entitled to your opinion. Most of the great players have reverence for those who came before them and whom they are playing with pm the tour. And when Novak was even a younger player he always had an excuse and withdrew from matches due to “ injuries “ He mocked other players like Nadal and Federer who were better than his was at the time. You don’t see Carlos Alcaraz doing that and Carlos is younger than Novak was at the time. This is why so many people dislike Novak. They look at the whole picture of who a “ star player “ is and not just the win and loss column.
So now let me say what it really is: The reason why the elites hate Novak, is that Novak stood up for the oppressed masses being forced to take an injection!!! Of course all the bootlickers in the stand and in the media hate him for the COURAGE to stand up to overwhelming authority! Even making huge personal sacrifices - booted out of the Australian Open.
That's because he was in a same boat when he was playing. John McEnroe probably had more hostile crowds(including judges, yes few judges) than Novak due to his on court tentrum.
@@matrix-fh9tn McEnroe is a classy, intelligent, mature elder statesman of tennis. When he was playing at 22 in 1981 at Wimbledon his behaviour was atrocious
I love that John said this, and I agree 100%. Johnny Mac is never afraid to speak the truth, and as a player he was one of the all time greats. Takes like this are why I respect him the most out of all the commentators.
@sebastientevel.... So right! Knowledgeable fans don't cheer unforced errors unless a great shot caused it. Real knowledge cheers winning shots. Never boos them.
Bro imagine if Lebron or CR7 playing every single match and knowing people hate them yelling at them what carries they would have i think that would not be same as they achieved it rn.
Nobody booed Sampras when he had the nerve to break Emerson's record and spoil the party. Nobody booed Federer when he had the nerve to break Sampras's record and spoil the party. Nobody booed Nadal when he had the nerve to break Federer's record and spoil the party. I am sure that, Nobody will boo Alcaraz/Sinner who may break Djokovic's record and spoil the party. Why is it different for Djokovic? Let us blame the audience in this case.
@JohnSmithGlobeLie You mean when he decided to take a PERSONAL call and decide about solely his body, not telling others what to do? Have we still freedom of choice?
Umm I think Mac did when he arrived, he was derided, hated , the empire establishment was so anti Mac . He was continually put down. I remember this very clearly. He hit more than boos
Woman on the left tries justifying it by saying wimbleton crowds root for the underdog 😂 Then why doesn’t any other top player get this treatment? Respect to John
No. People isnt against him because he is good, Ive never seen a crowd against Federer. People dislike him because he is a dislikable fella, he is a moron and a great player....
@@YOSOYLADISCO If they hate him so much then why bother to PAY to watch him play ????? Like wtf doesn’t make any sense. They’re obsessed with him and praying for his downfall because they can’t stand that the most decorated tennis player in the world is Serbian. Let’s be real, the reason behind this is RACISM.
@@Gmhfseyhb with all do respect: thats THE stupidest thing Ive heard...he is hated all across the globe, not only by wichever country you think dislike serbians, so no thats nonesense...people still pay to watch him play because he is a great player, and if you like tennis he gives a great show, but outside the field he is a dislikeable fella...I dont know why thats so hard to understand...
@@YOSOYLADISCO Djokovic did nothing dislikable when the crowd starting booing. He was simply dominating Rune. As McEnroe says, "What has he done that's been that bad? Name something.." Are you saying he's dislikable because of a feeling? There is no good reason to say that.
Fantastic John McEnroe, my all time favorite! Djokovic is absolutely right, he has faced so much rudeness over the years. And playing against the crowds and setting a record of 24 grand slams in time of such greats as Roger and Rafa is an unbelievable achievement! A warrior like no other! 💪💪💪
I used to hate Djokovic arrogance now I absolutely love the man’s principles and iron balls. He speaks up his mind and has no fear of losing fans over it. He shows us what it truly is to be authentic and be courageous to stand up for what you believe in. I hope my son grows up with that character. Respect and absolutely love Djokovic now. Makes me love tennis even more .
100% I hated Djokovic throughout his career, However, everything makes sense now. For how great he is and what he does for the tennis community, he receives so much hate. Alcaraz wants everyone to cheer for him by putting his finger by his ear, and people call him charismatic. Djokovic does it and he’s labeled as arrogant.
John’s spot on, and Djokovic handled it incredibly well, also. Every great player deals with it, but Djokovic get’s an incredible amount of it. I didn’t like Djokovic for the first half of his career. But, the last 6-8yrs I think he’s been an incredible ambassador for the sport.
did anything change? Novak behaved like Novak did over his entire career. Once Novak got the love from US Open when he lost against Medvedev. But still i believe Novak would return any love he received that evening to actually have won that 4GS a year.
Johnny Mac is absolutely spot-on. Plus, of the different things that came up during this interview, he pointed out that very soon after Novak's knee surgery, which in and of itself would have sidelined many if not most other players, he was BACK playing a major tournament, and continuing to WIN matches ?!?! What we've seen over the years with Djoko simply is beyond what ANY other tennis player as ever accomplished.
very good point, i wont forget how crowd treated novak during 2015 final against roger at USO, with andy murray at 2013 wimby final, 2014.15 finals against roger at wimby again and so many matches at ATP level
@@pharmavinay I have been the diehard Federer fan for the longest time. The 2015 USO final turned me into a Nole fan. He literally played against the entire stadium and walked away as the winner. The crowd was cheering for his double faults and unforced errors, and yet he single-handed silenced the mobs.
Huge Respect to Novak Djokovic on how he presents himself on and off the courts. A Man of honour, dignity and respect besides his tennis achievements. Can’t say the same about some of the Wimbledon crowd behaving like football hooligans.
Well done John. I'm glad you're not afraid to speak the truth, like Djoko. No coincidence that I was a big fan of you and am of Djoko now. You are both highly talented, intelligent and honest. ❤❤
Hats off to McEnroe for having the guts to say what it is, and took the firm stance for justice. Shame to the crowd at Wimbledon and some other venues who constantly remind us the dark side of the human instinct.
Djoko is smart, says all the right things, makes the right jokes but he just appears insincere and just communicates in a calculated way with PR in mind. At the end of the day, we know he's just a anti vax, pro putin, right wing christian conservative with eastern european supremacy mentality ready to crush anybody and everybody. Djoko's sportsmanship is just for show.
John speaking pure facts. Clare Balding trying to defend the crowd is laughable. When Djokovic was underdog v Federer in the early years of their rivalry, I didn’t see the centre court support the underdog.
Spot on John. Novak is an amazing player that's true to his word. A man with honesty and integrity who's worked his ass off to get to where he is. Respect and love to Novak and his family ❤❤❤.
John McEnroe is a legend of the game, for what he accomplished on the court, for His knowledge of the game, and for his commitment to speaking his mind.
Mac is amazing. Thanks for telling the truth and not being a media apologist. We love to be critical of everything. Joker is amazing. One of just a handful of real winners over the last 10 years. Such a great interview (and commentator… and player)
If djokovic was the greatest everyone would respect him, they dont respect him because he is not the greatest, but media such as McEnroe here trying to spin the story 😂
Thanks so much John McEnroe, and i am glad you understand what Djoker is going through. I think Djoker handled it with grace. He used his sense of humor, stayed positive, and told the audience how he felt. Like it or not , Djokovic deserves respect. Djokovic and his fans and family have my mine for sure!
