In a moving talk with Starbucks unionizing employees, Senator Bernie Sanders shares how nobody takes the healthcare offered by corporations because of the high price of insurance. A Starbucks employee shares the story of how they had to work full-time while battling cancer to afford health insurance. This is Bernie I don't know five days ago talking to some Starbucks employees in Richmond, Virginia. it's one of the things the campaign did that I think had some controversy associated with it in terms of like a campaign assessment, that they use the campaign the resources of the campaign to bolster worker actions and strength through the campaign in a way that at least you know in modern times we've not seen. Here's Bernie addressing some Starbucks workers.

Write a letter to yourself now about why you want to do that, pour your heart out about what it means to you and what you could mean to the rest of us. Then and if you are successful, when they come to tempt, accuse, bribe, smear, lie, blackmail you and your family, open that letter and read it aloud to yourself. You have one life to make any difference, to be the causality of good things after you. Plant a tree knowing you will never taste of its sweet fruit. Thank you.

When I worked for Target in the 00s (just before the affordable care act) we had to go to a benefits presentation. The only people who qualified were the managers giving the presentation. Everyone else’s hours were intentionally limited to not qualify.

This is what we need. Concrete, collective action. Not just voting or other passive BS that the billionaires control. Actual CHANGE MAKING. This is the most important thing that is happening today. We cannot solve the climate crisis or anything else, unless we leverage our labour power to bargain with those who have economic power.

@@mandatoryhelicopterrides4596 Dude, it's really 2012 and unoriginal to say "that's so 80s" about the collective labour movement, which has been happening for centuries, and won us most of our basic rights, including the right to a freaking weekend! Speaking of the past, conservatives wanna take us back to the 1950s, if not the 1850s. I'd rather go back to the 80s or 70s, when we had a much fairer society. Also, if that's your opinion, why are you here, watching? You either have a boring AF life that you would sit on a Friday night watching videos about topics you hate, or, you know.. there is something important in it.

Not to go off on a huge side topic, but anyone else really angry that kids in their 20's are getting cancer 5 decades after the first Superfund site was listed? Kinda enraged that chemical contamination continues unabated, so the next generations can suffer needlessly as well, like Gen X grew up doing.

The terms of employment should have been clear from the conception of employment: We associate as humans for the enrichment of ALL participants in the association. When we fail, we fail as one. When we succeed, we succeed as one. Neither workers nor owners owe the other their subservience. So long as production remains under the current paradigm of apparent worker/owner distinction, owners shall be given the privilege to utilize mankind's productive capacity ONLY if they are willing to respect the worker's humanity, ie, never insulting said worker by refusing to pay for basic benefits while that firm's CEO continues to be paid 300 times that of the average worker. Clearly that firm could afford to be a little "leaner" in certain departments when basic needs are not being met.

I switched to Unaffiliated voter here in NC circa 2008 because of the constant at the end of the day deference by progressives, to the big democrat machine in Washington. Just primary him, Bernie. *Just like his emotional meetings with the West Virginia people and his other meet ups around the country that produce nothing.. I feel for the people and I'm sure they are in a bad situation but I don't have much faith in Bernie Sanders.*
