Then-Rep. Bernie Sanders' (I-Vt.) speech expressing support for the US military forces involved in the Persian Gulf but inveighing against the resolution for the use of force against Iraq. Jan 17, 1991.
@Igor Horváth From all the opposition Bernie's had in the past, your comment although against Bernie, still holds respect for Bernie's ethical intend, I must at least give you my respect & thanks for understanding. If the world/US is not so divided, maybe a truly peaceful & civil discussion can be made without all the sound bites or unnecessary noise from bias media.
@Igor Horváth sure buddy the US that funds the biggest and most expensive military in the world will go bankrupt if it provided basic necessity's such as healthcare and education to all it's citizens. Something which every other developed country in the world managed to do. I sometimes wonder why the US citizens all collectively act like old bitter men that see everything free as a communist scam designed to ruin America, but now i realize that years of a bad education system had it's effect on you.
@@jonathanmarquise422 knowing the origin of that word being a carpetbagger is kinda awesome wtf are you saying wanting the abolishment of slavery is bad?
President Bush at the time knew the war could destabilize the Middle East so he was careful with his decision during the war since he was former CIA. Guess it does not run in the family though.
@@noodles5438 Not just that but the fall of the Soviet Union. They were careful with the Gulf War but the events in Yugoslavia and 9/11 allowed the US to go full force with Iraq.
Nobody was there to listen to this great and prophetic speech. What does that say about this country's elected officials? Bernie has always done his job.
+Rosemary Schlick The rest of them were spending most of their time at fundraisers with their wall street buddies rather than doing their job in congress! I wish I was joking, but that's probably pretty spot on as to why those seats are empty.
David Hyatt They have everything: the money, the power, the institutions, the guns, EVERY single advantage except for one, us. It is a room full of nobody versus every single one of us. We will join in solidarity and defeat them. They will never have the people.
The Bernie we see today is the same Bernie from the moment he came to Washington. His character never changed. He is not influenced by money. Has worked towards progress every single day of every single year. Who can ask for more than that in a candidate for President. Bernie 2016!!
too honest, too much care, I am saddened to know he might've spent his life fighting for a cause that most people don't care about. we must fighting with him!! #FeeltheBern
They left Saddam in power...did people think that Saddam was somehow gonna have a mea culpa and not be a dictator anymore? His speech couldve been reduced to my one sentence above, because that was the fatal error that doomed the US to the bloody followup war in 2003.
+Brandonio Granger This video reminds me A LOT, almost deju vu, when Ron Paul ran last elections.... I watched his SAME video similar to this (Ron Paul Predictions, MUST see!). I saw so many Ron Paul supporters, and everything.... and then when the final decision came, the lobbyists and corrupt politicians chose RoMONEY instead of Ron Paul, even though Ron Paul had far more public support online and in my city of Miami. It was corrupt how they chose romney, and you know what, the same thing is going to happen to Bernie, I have a HUGE feeling the fools will elect Hillary even though she is under federal investigation as the Democrat candidate, simply because too many rich corporations and democrats themselves put money into her.... he will get ''Ron Pauled'' in the last democratic debate, I hate to say it but this corrupt system seems to prechose everything, ever since the 2000 elections its been nothing but bogus candidates nobody really supports in the mainstream!
+derty QWERTY 42°N I also think Bernie is too soft on Hillary when they debate. He admits that they are friends, and liking her, tho' I can't for the life of me begin to imagine why.. He's a real gent for sure, but must not only make the point that Hillary has been bought, but must drive it home. With real conviction. He can do it,without resorting to the tactics Hillary uses. Facts are facts.
@@sabatino1977 Representatives* That's the House chamber, not the Senate, this was before he was a Senator. Also I'm still trying to figure out who but in the second angle there does appear to be one person still there listening. (I dont know who but I am interested if anyone does know who that is, props to them for staying. )
@@sanders2850 - right on two counts. It was the House chamber and there was a person there, he just blended in so well with the furniture I didn't see it.
+I'm The Heroic Protagonist This is not only about Voting... That is just a sign that we are willing to participate... It is just the start... If we want real change we will have to do more.
the integrity of this man is unparalleled. does not need an audience to speak truth...respect...rare conviction of integrity we might never see again...
No, he really isn’t. He was wrong on all fronts. Where were the social security cuts, the healthcare cuts? Spending on all those have continued to increase. This speech made Him look stupid..
Every single thing I have seen of Bernie Sanders, and I have been looking up quite a bit, has impressed me. He employs honesty, integrity, empathy and LOGIC in all things and has consistently displayed that for DECADES. This type of politician is so rare, we can't pass up this opportunity to have him for president. Bernie Sanders 2016!!!
The Commander and Chief during the 1991 war was President Bush and he knew (since he worked in the CIA) that a war in the Middle East could destabilize the region and was very careful with his decisions during the war. Guess it does not run on the family.
Immediately into his very first term in the House, Bernie makes this important stand. Always, always, always there for the good of The People! Even though his fellow House Members would not bother to listen, I am so glad he did it to have in the record for posterity. #BERNIE2020
Nobody was even listening but he still stood up to say exactly what needed to be said anyway, to an empty and unsympathetic room, not because it was politically expedient, but because it was the right thing to do. Bless you Bernie Sanders, you are a good and honest man.
No one, not a single fucking person can argue that Bernie doesn't have moral leadership. This video completely proves otherwise and Bernie is a complete anomaly that we, the people, need to seize for opportunity. We cannot fuck this up in 2020.
bernie needs to upload EVERY stump speech here. every interview, every debate. maybe even a live show 30 mins, 3 times a week. it won't take much. it's totally free to upload. I think, anyway.
It is pathetic that no one was there to even listen to his speech. Yet he still gave it to pit it into the record. Some things change, but some stay the same. Thank you for continuing to fight for whats right. Give 'em hell Bernie. #Sanders2016
Imagine being right about almost everything over your 40 year career and all the media could talk about is how some of your supporters post mean emojis on Twitter.
how many republicans actually know the difference between a socialist and a communist? also, he is not even a real socialist he just cares about the average Joe and wants to stop income inequality. gl bernie
Guys, we need to keep Bernie in this race. Not just because Hillary can't hope to beat Trump, but because he'll bring about a new era in America, where we choose unity over fear and segregation. Who knows. Maybe America will become the most desirable place to live
Wow! I may not agree with Bernie, but to give a speech from an empty hall to becoming a presidential candidate now relatively known worldwide is inspiring!
