Like most of these newer industrial style machines, they have similar operations as the old Singer and Chandler zigzag machines.
They even use similar needles, bobbins, and bobbin cases.
A decent high speed rotary that will deliver years of heavy service.
The big plus would be the built in buttonhole and decorative stitches.

Hello! Thank you for all of your videos. I have this same sewing machine, a Bernina Industrial 950, and it has stopped working. The motor works, the needle will manually move, but the motor will not move the needle, rendering it useless. What might be causing this? Does it need a new drive belt? And if so, how might I replace it?

Could be the belt or the hand wheel clutch release. Either of those is a simple fix.

Hi Randy my wife has had this machine for about 18+ years such a great workhorse. She designs and makes clothing, so it is used a lot. Today , Unfortunately it has an issue with timing and I can’t seem to fix it. The needle hits the hook but only every 6to 20 times I rotate the wheel. I have tried everything and unfortunately living in Bermuda there is no one who repairs machines. If only I could get it to you! Do you have any contact details please? She needs to use it almost daily and has a backlog of work waiting thank you

Check the lash of the hook assembly. Take the needle to its highest point and tilt the machine back to get access to the hook assembly. Grip the hook assembly and see if it has movement “front to rear”. If you pull and push on the hook assembly, there shouldn’t be any discernible movement. If it has movement, loosen the set screws on the drive gear and snug the gear forward as you push in on the hook. That movement will account for the random needle hits. Be sure to smooth and polish the circumference of the hook to remove the dings where the needle hit it.

Hi thanks for this. There was no movement. It seems like the hook mechanism is out of synch with the needle movement so that as the hook rotates within 20 rotations the needle no longer goes into the groove and hits the unproved area.

@@BenLucas-ik6ub something is not meshed tightly if you are getting random needle hits. Check the mesh of the drive gears to insure no wobble or play. Is your needle bar loose in its up/down movement? Check all set screws in the take up assembly. If your machine has the basting stitch feature, make sure it’s serviced properly so it doesn’t randomly engage. Is the needle striking the hook as you’re sewing, or when you’re free running the machine with the presser foot up and no bobbin case inserted? If it’s hitting while sewing, you might want to move the hook away from the needle slightly, or sew on a less heavy fabric, or use a heavier needle with less flexibility, or don’t pull the fabric as it’s sewing.

Plastic inside???

Yes. Unfortunately and unbelievably it has plastic (nylon) components. That’s why I call it semi industrial. There are many new industrial machines now that have key components made of hard nylon. They will break someday. I encourage my customers to look for older models of the machines they are looking to use for their production floor. A thirty year old machine may still be in great condition 30 years from now. A brand new one, may be broken and malfunctioning, ten years from now.
