I bought this machine and brought it home. I never saw it sew and this is the basic process I go through with a newly acquired machine. I take you along as I discover all the ins and outs of this old sewing machine. Will it even sew?

Thank you. I have a Chandler button sewing machine that came out of a drycleaners that was being torn down. It will sew a button on in about 10 seconds.

Just bought a bernina 950 industrial and you aren't kidding parts are expensive and that's if you can even find them! I need the slide plate and my local dealer can't get it and I can't find it online under any brand mentioned or even by various generic descriptions. Thank God my hubby is a machinist cause I'm gonna need him to make me one! And thanks to your video I will be servicing mine myself as I do all 7 of my 158 series Kenmore machines😅

Another beautiful old machine. So much sturdier than a new one.

Yes, it sits somewhere between a home machine and an industrial. Many people swear by Bernina.

On that back plate where the pins broke off... I have had great luck when gluing those broken plastic parts on using epoxy and adding a thin strip of fiberglass cloth or even just cotton cloth to help spread out the repair. This helps to reinforce the repair joint and It doesn't take much.

This was so good to find and watch! 👌🏻I am struggling to find someone to service my Bernina 950, most refuse to come out and don’t want to service it without a motor if I brought it in! Years ago I knew a mechanical engineer who took it apart, cleaned and oiled it and returned it to me without having ever worked on a sewing machine before and without testing it. I dropped it back into the table, connected the belt and it sewed like a dream! I would love to know how to set the timing on it. It seems like it’s wearing a groove inside the bobbin case and making a terrible racket. Found your video trying to find something online to help me. 😅 Also, mine is over 20 yrs old and the bobbin winder does not work disengaged from the sewing mechanism anymore… I had never considered winding them while I’m sewing something 🤯I’ve always just removed the thread from the needle to avoid tangling while it runs.

A mechanical engineer you say? I think that's cool. Cleaning and lubricating solves most problems. Good luck with your machine.

@@AlexanderDyer Thank you! I have cleaned and oiled. The scraping sound persists. It feels like the section which holds the bobbin case in place is loose in it’s casing and I cannot see how to tighten it. If I hold it in while sewing, the noise stops. I’ll keep searching 😊

Just wanted to update and say thanks …Thought again about your comment re cleaning and lubricating solving most problems and even though I did try that at first, and kind of dismissed that as a solution, I opened up everything again, and went in with a different oil, I rewatched the parts where you oiled this machine & it’s definitely much better! 🎉

On the bobbin case, not sure if I’m clear on that but have you tried a different one. It’s not very common but bobbin cases do age out/break/get out of spec. Never saw it happen on a regular sewing machine but the heavy use quilting machines frequently required new bobbin cases. Just a thought😁

The tiny screw on my bernina 950 bobbin case is stripped. I think both screws. It was working okay with heavy thread, but when I switched to regular thread, that is when the problem became apparent. Pretty much need a new case and the original is hard to find. I wonder if the “compatible” bernina bobbin cases offered on Amazon might work? Has anyone else tried them. I even wonder if the case I have is not original. Great video, thank you so much! I love fixing old stuff, but my skills pretty limited. You are a good teacher!

Find someone with a 3d printer and send him your broken part and he should be able to make you 2/3 new ones. Check in your newspaper and someone might be advertising their ability to duplicate your part without the part missing.

The DBx1, DPx5 and HAx1 are actually all roughly cross-compatible. Like there's probably some subtle differences in the exact shaping of the scarf or something, but the shank sizes are compatible with each other (except you can't fit a round shank needle in a domestic, for obvious reasons), and they have the same overall length and distance from the shank end to the top of the eye. I did a side-by-side comparison running an HAx1 needle in DBx1 and DPx5 machines and couldn't find any difference in stitch quality compared to running the usual industrial needles. That said, if you've got the right needle you might as well use it.

I want you to do a video about installing a slow speed with a motor on sewing machine with your 1508 JUKi
@AlexanderDyer
@AlexanderDyer 11 месяцев назад
I will have to do that but it is basically the same for most machines so I might have another machine that would benefit from a servo that I could demonstrate with. Kill two birds with one stone.

That is activator, it speeds the set up. I still let it sit for 8 - 24 hours but it set it enough that no clamp is needed. I think I put a link in the description.

Glad I found this video! I have a Bernina 950 and was just using it for a project and I have a situation now that when I reverse the thread pops out of the needle for some reason. It was working fine during this project. I have oiled it all over, played with the tension, changed the needle and cleaned the bobbin area. Could it have something to do with the (forgot the name) plate that takes the fabric forward while it is sewing??? Please help. Much appreciated. Can you tell me what it could be?
@AlexanderDyer
@AlexanderDyer 8 месяцев назад
Your thread is breaking. I would suggest that you try to recreate the issue while operating the machine slowly by hand to see if you can spot when and where exactly the thread breaks. That should help you to discover the fix.

That could have been the T.V. episode of Voyagers where they meet Thomas Edison, who disassembled the pocketwatch that was the voyager's time machine. I distinctly remember that episode BECAUSE it had a scene just like that. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JFJI2BFiul4.html

Do you have a need for the clutch motor? I replaced mine with a servo, and can't decide whether not to keep the original motor. But I also don't want to just throw it away.
