I’ve had this machine since 1975. Never knew how to open it up to clean. I always had to send it in for service. Your instruction are so clear and easy to follow. Thank you so much!
Great video. I have had mine for years, bought it brand new. It is a workhorse!! I appreciate having this knowledge since I am having problems finding good info on fixing my machine.
This was brilliant - exactly what I needed to fix the fact that the thread in the top needle would break if I ran the stitches off the end of the fabric - the timing was really off. Tweaked per your instructions and it's purring! Thank you!!
Hello, for bernina 707, timings, the Gabe between the middle and the shuttle hook point should be 0.3, what is to be done if this Gabe is bigger 0.5 or o.6 or o.7
Greeting Patricia! That is amazing. $1,000 was worth a lot more 50 years ago. My father bought a brand new 1967 Chevrolet Impala (basic model) for less than $3,000. Cheers
$30! what a deal! I love mine. it's a workhorse. I may have put too thick layers of fabric thru mine which made the timing wonky. this vid was very helpful! good steady filming and clear explanation. thank you for sharing
Thank you, I like the fact that you take the time explaining this in a clear and correct manner. I've seen other's who are not very clear and talk really fast but I found yours to be the best!
Just saw this, did you know in the top right corner of the screen there are three dots, if you touch there you can slow down or speed up any video you are watching? Go dow to .75 and it will slow down the sound slightly.
Hello Sherry! Thank you for your comment . I was lucky to find this machine and enjoy using it. These machines are very durable but a little cleaning and a few drops of oil helps keep them going. Cheers
Thank you for making a video about the Bernina 830 Record sewing machine. Please make more videos about how to adjust the straight stitch on this machine. Mine makes a little zig zag stitch on my straight stitch. Thank you.
Thank you so much I was just giving a Bernina record 830 and I was hoping that there was a video on how to adjust and oil it thank you so much for your helpful video!!!
Well, that was not so bad... I have a new to me used BERNINA Matic 910, and it looks just like this one in the Bobbin Case and mechanics. Thank you, now I know how to time it should I ever need to do this! Awesome, it’s hard to find info on these older machines. 👍
Thank you so much for doing this video on the Bernina 830 timing adjustment. I must be a bit dense because the degree of adjustment that you made isn’t clear to me with respect to the bobbin area and needle position. I’ll watch it again to see if I missed something. It would’ve been nice to see the before and after stitch quality of your machine to see the improvement...just a thought 😊
@@cipstechitips1574 Wow!! I have no idea how I missed that the first time I watched your video. Thank you for pointing out your examples - very helpful. I found another very comprehensive two-part video by Sew Technical that provided all the exact positions and gap distances required for precise timing adjustments: Part 1 - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0lRvmuWbaqE.html Part 2 - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-k1-lJgz8d74.html
Timings of the Bernina 830 are in a logical order, e.g. 1. loop lift, 2. return motion (the one adjustment that you've discovered), and 3. needle height. Included in those timings are four needle positions, needle to hook distance, etc.) These must be done first , always! If the hook point has been broken off, reshaping and shortening the point will cause problems when sewing in certain fabrics and or different threads. Even a 0.5mm shortening of the hook point will cause problems. The reason being is that the cam or curved rim of the hook shoulder is no longer timed with hook point and the take-up lever. Thread escapement and other issues have then been introduced by trying to make a broken hook work. .... The return motion for the 830 is 2.8mm in left dead position of the hook and in the far left needle position. Needle height is checked in the far right stitch position with the point of the hook flush with the right side of the needle. (Needle height is not a [+ - 1.0mm]; It is very precise)! At that point one should see the upper 1/4 the upper left of the needle eye being occluded by the hook. .... Lowering the needle height will no longer be referenced with the needle guard on the hook driver. (bigger problems) The best solution is get a new hook and forget about making modifications to a damaged hook point.
Thank you for your excellent information. I watched your videos and any I could find but I could not solve my problem. The machine is sewing so much better now. Maybe some day I will replace the hook. I am looking forward to your next video. Cheers.
Hi. This is a real good instructions. You explain it very well. I have a Bernette 50 , made by Bernina, and the hook timing is off from thread balling up under a piece I was sewing. It does not have a top cover that pops off like the Bernina. Where is the timing adjustment for the Bernette 50?
Greetings Jim! My knowledge of sewing machine is very general and somewhat limited. I am not familiar with the Bernette 50. I will look around, cheers.
@@cipstechitips1574 Thanks Cip. It sounds like you are a tinker like me. I got this Bernetta machine for free from my neighbor who was going to throw it in the trash bin. It sews through 4 layers of leather like crazy!!. I took the bottom cover off and nothing there. I think the back cover comes off somehow to get to that screw to release the bobbin housing so I can turn it to time it. please let me know if you find the key to it............Cheers, Jim
I have a Bernina 707, the gap between the needle and shuttle hook tip should be 0.3mm, what can I do if the gap is bigger than that? What can be done to make the gap smaller. Thank you.
Hi, this was so helpful. My mom and I are still unsure of where the placement of the needle is in accordance to the hook. Is there any way we could talk to you over the phone?
I found this video really helpful in terms of explanation -but I couldn’t see clearly what the idea position was and therefore haven’t yet been able to adjust mine. Are you able to show a close up of the adjusted position? Thanks
Greeting Zoe! I think the views of my adjustment at 7:05 and 8:20 are the best. The view at4:58 is the best close-up before I made the adjustment. I measure from the top of the needle eye to the sharp tip of the hook. It is mostly "Trial and Error" to find what works best due to the age and wear of the machine; yours may be different.
On the Bernina 830 record electronic machine, the roller of the thread winding mechanism on the bobbin does not contact the motor pulley. I can't figure out what the reason is and fix this problem. Please help with the advice!
Greetings Alex! I hope I understand your comment correctly. The roller will come in contact with the motor pulley when you move the bobbin winder start leveler towards the winder spindle. Give that a go.
Thank you for this excellent video. I have a Bernina 800 I want to clean and oil. Your demonstration of removing the flat bed and stitch plate with the latch, which you demonstrated, is very, very helpful! Are the three holes in the flatbed (two close to right of the stitch plate and one at the other end of the flatbed) meant for oiling without removing the flatbed? I do see from your video that getting inside it rather than just oiling through those holes is the way to thoroughly clean underneath. Again, many thanks.
Greeting K B! I hope you found the video useful. I am not an expert, but sometimes there are threaded holes for accessories and simple holes for oil. Thank you for your comment. Kind regards.
Greeting Cole! It might be the bobbin tension adjustment. There is a tension adjustment above but there is also an adjustment screw on the bobbin case. You may need to check that you have the correct bobbin case and the proper bobbins. Then clean and adjust the tension screw on the bobbin case. Check some of the other RU-vid videos.
@@cipstechitips1574 that fixed my issue - I went years before finally finding that tip online! I was never so happy to know it was such a simple fix :)
Wonderful tips about the timing. I’ve been wanting to know how to do that for years. Could you tell me if the vintage 201 and 99 singers have a similar rod that controls the timing. It looks like it could. Also my pfaff tiptronic has a tiny timing issue seen on the straight stitch only. I failed to get the case off. There must be a sneaky screw somewhere. Do you know how to change that timing? Thanks v much
Cip, I just purchased a Bernina Record 830 with a red carrying case. I have noticed how people get so excited at finding this machine with a red case. Would you know why? You have a great explanation of tge timing. .Btw, does the needle position from left, center, and right? Thank you so much. Now to buy different feet. Nothing came with machine, not even the manual. .
I think people get excited by the Bernina name and these machines are heavy and time proven. I set the timing with the needle left. I was lucky, mine had the red carrying case a good assortment of feet, accessories, and the manual. I believe the manual is downloadable at the Bernina website. Thank you for your comment. Cheers
Greeting Jukka! I am not familiar with the 707. I looks like a very interesting machine. I watched one video about oiling the machine and it showed the removal of a screw to access the area inside the sewing arm: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fQxV8KvPw_g.html
You don’t know how to time a sewing machine. Needle on right position. 5/32” rise, point of hook brushing centre of needle scarf. Forget the toothbrush
