BernNadette Stanis is best known for her role as Thelma on “Good Times”. She’s here today to talk about becoming an author and how the content from the iconic show is still relevant.
Good Times was very pivotal in my childhood growing up to see such a strong black family surviving in hard times but still loving and supporting each other was beautiful! I love her and the entire cast!!
Yeah she was arrogant and stuck on herself and she didn't have any talent . Belinda Tolbert from the Jeffersons had more than she did wearing all super tight jeans on the show I know she probably stank I didn't like her on the show use to over act her part
@@queenelueme8946 I disagree. James wasn’t a powerful father. He was actually a big cry baby and Florida was a powerful mother. In fact, Florida even had to quit her job on account of Jame’s whining about losing his job and her working. They was still making it and instead of being grateful, he was being uncooperative and a menace and could see the family limited and suffering to what he could do for them. Which is very destructive and selfish. The whole family staying down on account of him. I was glad when he was cut from the script bcuz good things and advancements didn’t start happening for that family until he was gone. And Willona became a powerful mother when she adopted Penny. All of the women in Good Times were powerful and the men weren’t. Michael was powerful but that was bcuz he was a little kid and had his strong powerful mother there. Men don’t stay powerful when they pass into the adult years. Many of them become perverted and/or a menace over male pride. And truth, it was Florida and the women who pulled that show. Especially Florida. Not the men.
Nah. Cutting James out was the best thing he did for that show. What I liked about Good Times is how it featured the capabilities and importance of women.
*Bernadette Stanis is a Legend* one of the pioneers of black beauty, acting and entertainment. Thelma will always be remembered, Good Times never stop.
I grew up in Cabrini Greens projects in Chicago and I appreciated that the show represented life in the projects with a black family. I enjoyed listening to this interview.
Yes we all so much thank you for sharing your wonderful platform with our true Earth Angel so kind and loving for Bernadette is like a dream girl come alive. The World has been wondering and waiting just to see her again. Even The Four Tops had to call out her name...
Outstanding interview. I’am glad it wasn’t a fluff piece that would be forgettable, Bernadette (Thelma) really had something to say, and that was how Alzheimers Disease effected her Mother. More and more people are effected by it, so the more people are made aware of it, the more knowledgeable we are about it. I have had many customers who were effected, and my Brother was dealing with it, along with other health issues, before his death. I wanted to watch this interview, to see if i would learn something new going on in Bernadette’s life, and i was pleasantly surprised that she’s still in contact with her cast mates, and she has a cause that she believes in. Thanks for the memories, and thanks for the GOOD TIMES. ( An’t we lucky we got um, Good Times)
I like the way she sticks up for her mother and says when one of her caregivers claims her mother is difficult she defends her mother and gets rid of the caregiver
@@jimmiemorrison6782 Only witches are ugly. What I'm trying to relay is in fact the way you live your life shows on the face. If you don't believe me , take a good look at an evil spirited person and them take a gander at the face. If that doesn't work, try watching The Wizard of Oz.
@Jason Lindsey ... I get what you're saying about the Christian life being connected to maintaining a youthful appearance. Part heredity, part blessing from the Lord, and part living a clean life in espousing Christian values, are all important factors, in my opinion.
Wow.... that interview was very educational. Thank you Mrs. Stanis for Good Times and the continued work you're doing with your Alzheimer's Organization.
I was ten when "Good Times” made its debut in 1974 and for many of us pre-adolescent Black males of that era she was our first crush. Still looking AWESOME to this very day!
Wow yeah you're right queen bernadette is still beautiful and fine as wine 🍷 she's going to be on a new sitcom on bet called the family business it's a drama she's going to be one of the main characters!!!
I can appreciate her commentary regarding Alzheimer’s. My grandfather died from it 1/12/2022 on my birthday. Everything that she’s saying is so true regarding their mannerisms when they’re suffering from that disease. I always admired “Thelma!” Thanks Ms. Stanis
Bernadette Stanis still looks beautiful!!! and great she is doing well and doing other things in life after " Good Times". Good bless her and her career.
I was born in 1966 and I always thought she was so pretty! As an American Indian I loved to watch. Still beautiful girl! You resonated to me as a young girl! Love ya kid! 😘
Love how she loves and appreciates the fact that she was blessed to be on the show. A lot of actors try to separate themselves from roles that the public identifies them by not being appreciative of the fact that they wouldn't be where they are without that role
Bernadette is still beautiful and fine!!! I've loved her and when she had a recurring role on adult swim's black jesus in 2016 she still was beautiful!!!
Yeah, I had a thing for, Mary Anne from Gilligan's Island and Barbara eden from I dream of genie, but Thelma Put those things in a closet and shut the door.
I was just looking up the connection between loss, esp. the loss of children, and dementia; Alzheimer's is a type of dementia. And to hear Ms. Stanis confirm that she too thought there was a link between the loss of her father and her mother's developing Alzheimer's was so serendipitous and heart warming. Thank you, Ms. Stanis for the good times and all that you continue to do ☺️!
My father died at 59 from prostate cancer. My mother, at 54, immediately had cognitive decline and was eventually diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She was traumatized by my father’s death. Mom passed at 70.
This was such a great video, because it was wonderful seeing Bernadette Stanis. She’s beautiful and I enjoyed hearing about her life after Good Times and that she actually loved the show and her character, that was refreshing to hear. It’s great that she still keeps up with the remaining cast members and that they’ve created a project together. May her life continue to be a blessing to her. I hope that she’ll keep us posted !!!!
BernNadette looks fabulous..she’s an American treasure I hve an older sister frm tht generation n she reminds me soo much of my sister soo proud of her such a class act

I would sing that song so loud keeping your head above water. Never new this song would play such a role in my life. Survival. Loved this movie. Sorry to hear about your Dad and Mom they raised a beautiful daughter. Now you are raising a beautiful daughter as well.
Would love a documentary on Good Times. The cast may not have been super close, but they were all total professionals that made the show real, funny, touching and really great!
Such a beautiful spirit, can’t wait for the Good Times doc 👍🏽and I’m glad she’s speaking on Alzheimer’s I read that science is making some progress in fighting the disease, I sure hope they find a cure
Loved Good Times. Thank you for that last information regarding frontal and rear lobes on behaviod. That I did not know .I lost my motbsr in law to alzheimers 9 months ago in March . She was not buried till the 5th of May. After losinv my father in law in 2012. I feel that pushed her alot further forward with her Dementia . .The stages are very heartbreaking and we had seen her Thanksgiving week prior to her passing we drove down and I had seen her and our our only young son . sonI told my husband to spend time time. and the day with his mother and he did the following day . My family and I prior to both in laws passing . We moved down to firzt care for my father in law and he passed 6 weeks later. My mother in law held on strong aside from Alzheimers 10 yrs before her body retired and I think of them both nearly every day. Cant believe how fast time came and went I had a wonderful time visiting tbem and spending quality time on trips .I pray everyday for them and hope that they are happy in heaven together once more. Thank you
