There was that interview 5 years ago where Miura said the ending was coming up and there’s one hint: Void Void is key to everything with the Godhand, the old ones, the new ones, Griffith and allegedly doing the work of the Idea of Evil. Was Void the Griffith of his time, or did he transcend space and time to be the ultimate puppet master?
@ausgamecollector
@ausgamecollector 2 года назад
‘Void’ in Japanese mythology and Shintoism is the 5th element. Look at the old (replaced/ superseded) members of the Godhand… They all resemble some part of the natural world; frost/ water, wood(fauna?), ash/ embers(insects?), flora/ fertility… Void was previously a Sage, likely an advisor to Gaeseric (some believe, who created the Crimson Behelit) who summoned “angels” while he was imprisoned in that tower by Gaeseric. Although unclear, it seems likely at some stage that Void somehow had a (God) hand at corrupting the natural order of things, at the very least, the eclipse and branding process took on more of a process of bloodshed, of a brutalist and sadistic nature, where feeding the GH’s Apostles becomes part of the sacrifice and the overall aim of the ritual. This is worlds away from what we witnessed during his sacrifice of Gaeseric’s empire; even though Gaeseric’s love interest is seen as branded (along with the kingdom itself), she appears unbrutalised, with no fatal wounds, it’s almost as if she had her life force drawn from her(juxtaposing Casca’s experience in Femto’s eclipse)… In conclusion, it is likely Void had a hand in effing stuff up and perverting/ corrupting the natural order of things. We may even go so far as to say that knowing SK and Flora, that he knew the old GH would perish, and via the cycle of GH initiations, had a (God)hand in recruiting the rest of the members, who each have a (God) hand in the perversion of the natural world.

@@Mannnnnnnn I believe that SK (at the end of Guts’ vision in the Berserk Armour) with the assistance of Flora, who summoned the 4 Elemental Kings, likely had a showdown with the Old Godhand. However, Void having the ability to manipulate/ bend space, couldn’t be defeated, subsequently escaping, leaving the kingdom in ruin. This would explain why Flora was outcasted from Elfheim for doing something taboo, it explains the mass sacrifice I’m parallel with the kingdom being physically ‘torn asunder’.. Although we don’t know at what point/ how the Apostles started appearing, it also explains why SK has been slaying them and collecting Behelits(demonstrated by him unsuccessfully striking Void during Femto’s eclipse) in the eventual creation of the Sword of Actuation. It could also be why Flora calls the GH ‘Angels’, as perhaps the original 4 were angels and not known as ‘Godhand’ per se. This goes with the theme of Void making chaos out of order, but, my two cents.

Zodd being skull knights beast of darkness is probably just wrong for a couple of reasons: when zodd first sees guts in the armor he speaks with sk about it which I always took as them having fought with sk using it. then there’s the actual shape of the armor, when guts uses it, it changes to reflect his inner beast which is how we get the hell hound design, it was originally in the shape of a skull meaning that’s probably what gaiserics beast was. Finally, zodd is the godhands errand boy which wouldn’t line up with doesn’t add up with gaiseic wanting them dead. Even guts’ beast wants to mutilate Griffith so I can’t imagine gaiserics switching teams. Everything else is interesting but that part threw me for a loop.

@big_hat_logan Год назад
One thing I think is interesting, is when Zodd is first introduced he’s said to be 200-300 years old, and it seems as if maybe he’s seen at least one other eclipse event. But it kind of makes sense that maybe the 200-300 is legend, and actually hes 1000 years old and is a super powerful apostle who saw Gaseiric physically die at the eclipse event (wearing the berserk armor) and be bound in spirit as skull knight. Either he’s been fighting skull knight for 200-300 years and just somehow knows what the Berserk armor is, or he’s been fighting the Skull knight for 1000 years since Gaeseric’s time, and has seen berserk amor first hand. When I first read, I always thought Skull Knight becoming the astral spectral being was directly linked to his use of the Berserk armor, I thought the armor made him into that. But now I guess not because of the “taboo” that was mentioned, and the “memory” the berserk armor shows of Gaeseric dying at the eclipse event, implying he was wearing the armor when he died

I think it's less about gods being forgotten and more about the idea that evil can't ever be defeated. So much of Berserk is about glorifying 'The Struggle' - the value in perservering no matter how life treats you. And one of the hardest things in life is accepting that certain things will never change, like corruption, crime, or the weaknesses we so often see in fellow human beings. The Godhand might simply represent all this. The idea of 'defeating' the Godhand; 'defeating' Griffith might eventually be seen as a weakness of Guts. Maybe what Guts has to learn in order to win is that vengeance can take you a lot of places, but those places may not be where you want to be. And that staying and protecting his new friends and family are more important. Perhaps learning to let go of the pain of the past and embracing hope, he gains a new kind of strength. A strength to protect those he cherishes. Something he couldn't do before.

@felldoh9271 2 года назад
I’ve thought of this too but I don’t think it matters because the thought already made it’s impact (Griffith whole heartedly deciding to sacrifice them is what it boiled down to). Then again you could argue that if that’s all that maters then what if all of the Branded escaped (let’s say Skull Knight comes to the rescue much earlier, how would Femto be born without sustenance from his sacrifices?)? At what point is the ritual complete (what percentage of sacrifices are needed for an Apostle or God Hand to realize their full power?)?
@edgeofsins
@edgeofsins 2 года назад
Possible but sometimes I feel like it can be reading too much into it. I think the ritual is mostly to do with them losing their humanity and for apostles and such to celebrate and feast versus the sacrifices giving them power.. but as I think about this. Why would a brand be needed then? Maybe to allow the humans to enter their world for that moment. Maybe the brand is a key and not just some mark of sacrifice.

I don't think skull knight killed the old God hand, SK looks like he's still trying to figure out how to do it. I think the God hand killed each other because the God hand are the most vile creatures in existence, they were born from betraying the people who loved them the most. The apostles are forced to work for them due to their overwhelming power but I believe the godhand constantly plot against one another in order to gain more power. They only look united now because they have a common goal of returning to the physical world.

So, if the God Hand dies off when people stop believing them, could Griffith live forever? He has a new body for the physical realm and is taking a far more active role in the world. That makes it hard to stop believing in them. Could part of his plan (or a byproduct of it) be to forever be enshrined as a God Hand? The high probable evidences are the historical aspects & logic that very much attached to Berserk overall. Just like IRL history, we know at some point there were ancient gods worshiping & belief system (animism, dynamism, polytheism, totemism, paganism, etc), such as the 4 heavenly kings/angels & the sea god. I do have my own theory that the mysterious god hands in Void's eclipse most likely supposed to represent the corrupted state of this 4 heavenly kings deities, the base belief of magic/alchemy/astral plane. Basically the eclipse in its essence was a dark summoning ritual that manipulate the causality itself. This is also inline with how Schrieke talked about Holy See scriptures & teachings were likely a "modified" version of previous beliefs, a beliefs that directly connected through magic aka the 4 heavenly guardian/kings/angels. @@crozraven yes. The thing about beliefs and analogy with gods is actually the best part. What bugs me off, though, are connections to Zodd and Skull Knight based on just their attires. The Godhand are bound to represent general human beliefs of their time, as well as creating and multiplying this beliefs. Hawing a lion on a belt is as much a sign of connection to particular Godhand, as for real world human wearing a cross is a sign of knowing Christ or saint personally. We could as well say that Whale Knights from Chudder were at some point personally connected to the Sea God. And there are many themes that just are repetitive in general throughout Berserk, so they can add some credibility to existing theory based on some other evidence, but they're not evidence on their own.

Zodd is not King Gaeseric. It’s implied (imo) that Zodd is a very old apostle, who has seen at least one other eclipse event. As he’s 250-300 years old, and he’s just an especially powerful apostle who has fought off the skull knight for a long time. He was most likely a powerful human like the moonlight knight, fire dragon, the hunter, and other especially powerful apostles Zodd and Skull Knight are not the same person split into two entities. It’s stated that Gaeseric physically died during the eclipse event, and it’s heavily implied that his soul is trapped with magic as skull knight

lion thing is interesting, but when I look at the god hand that you say resembles a lion I see more the facial expression as the emphasized then the notion it might be a lion, It almost looks like a tragedy mask from theater. As an artist myself this it the more important part to that character. I am interested in seeing how this could inform your theory because I think overall your connections are super interesting! Just wanted to give my thoughts on the matter. (I say as an artist the details very much matter, and stuff like the eye expression and lack of teeth in the god creature might mean theres no connection to the lion on Zodd / skull knight to this specific god hand member and you can see why else the lion symbolism in Zodd and Skull Knight would be connected etc )

You didn't really get to the sideways mouth skeletal one, but there were a lot of interesting concepts presented here. I don't know how accurate some of them are, especially the one with Zodd having been a part of Giseric and separating from him. That seems a little far fetched to me. The topic of discussion about how old gods are forgotten was really interesting, though. I have heard it said before that the old God Hand group could be reflective of the beliefs of the error that were more elemental whereas the newer God Hand members have more humanoid forms. Anyway, seeing that there once was a different group of God Hand got me really excited. We've been wondering about that possibility for a long time. I hope we get some more information sometime soon because the overarching plot and lore is extremely fascinating in this series.

If you look at the last OG chapter you'll see the blacksmith that made the berserker armor (and skull knights armor) call skull knights armor a coffin. Which if the armour is anything like the berserker armor then it would also, im assuming, completely drain the knight but giving him more strength and agility beyond the berserker armour. Maybe the goal of the armor was a place to house the rage and soul of skull knight to be trapped by the armor but also given enough time he needs to defeat the god hand.

We know that Skull Knight was some sort of Guts of the past. We also know that we have older God Hand members that are no longer around. We know that Skull Knight has been fighting the God Hand all along. And we also know that Void is the key. Maybe we are looking too far into it and Void is the last member of the God Hand alive, Skull Knight nearly succeeded but ultimately failed and he is guiding Guts to finish what he started, while Void is rebuilding the God Hand to continue on the original plan that was nearly foiled, maybe now with Griffith he can accomplish that.

Dude, what the heck are you smoking? Most of the things you say make no sense. On the lion part is just painful to hear. Zodd is a lion. The reason why he would have a lion on what he wear is pretty much the same why other apostles have dragons or snakes on their armors. Is a representation of himself. That face on the shield is a human face, not a lion face. That is the face of a old bearded man with long hair. And that god hand looks like a lion just because of that thing around its head. The face is more human like. The Artemis part sounded ok till you started talking about that statue in that panel. That thing look to me more like some kind of armor than bull testicles. I don’t think the intentions were that deep, to be fair. In my opinion, he’s just throwing fun ideas around. A sad reminder that, for the rest of time most likely, all we’ll be able to do about Beserk is wonder that the finished story would have been. I’m not a big fan of anime or manga (the dialogue isn’t written in a way I find immersive), but I LOVED Berserk. It’s the only manga I own copies of. I hope that, in the future, some big budget streaming service and a passionate director create a truly high-end miniseries adaptation of the content we do have, and they could end it however they liked with the condition that the ending is just the ending of that miniseries and not canon to Miura’s source material once it passes the available plot. That would be amazing.

@@Sam-lo8yj That would be great. I also hope that in the future a team does pick up the manga again and continue where Kentaro Miura left off, but as a different title and perhaps as a separate canon from the Miura timeline, so as not to step on Miura's legacy.

I like the video and some of the speculation in the design of some of these older godhand members, especially the far right looking like a version of artemis. I think it's really interesting how little we know about even the latter godhand. We can guess Slan is about lust, fertility, sexuality and she even has what seems to be cult devoted to her in the Conviction Arc. Conrad, we see his image formed by a mass of plague rats once in Conviction arc and later at the end of Millenium Falcon arc with the merging of worlds. I think this links him to the idea of pestilience. Ubik is mysterious, somehow seems to correspond to Conrad, he leads Griffith into his memories and dreams. We see him a the merging of worlds walking in a Bosch-esque scene which just speaks more about dreams or possibly nightmares; overall i think he's the Dream Guy, maybe responsible for events like all the people in Wyndham having the same dream about the Hawk of Light, also probably connected to the ambition thats driven by dreams like Griffith's. Void, from the story of the prophet imprisoned and tortured in Gaiseric's time, might represent something like prophesy, fate or ... wait for it ... Causality itself. Collective belief in the inevitability of fate might be the root of Void as an entity. It would similarly make sense that there was a godhand of fertility (far right) in the past, and others that correspond likely to concepts important to the people of that time and context.
